I was still running 10.5 and loved it. I read about lion and decided there was nothing in there worth paying for. Then I bought a new Macbook Pro. Fuck. I hate every fucking thing about Lion. I immediately dubbed it 'OS X Vista'.

Every day there are more things that piss me off about it. I keep looking for updates to fix things - nothing yet. I guess I shouldn't be holding my breath. Apple doesn't admit mistakes. It's our fault, not theirs.

Dude, I very much enjoyed your ranting. You are right with everything except one thing: if you disable every "feature", you do not end up with SL. My workflow in SL entirely depends on geometrical Spaces + Expose. In Mission Control you have a kind of Expose, but only the disabled little brother of Spaces. You can´t fan out all windows in all spaces and you can´t drag and drop windows between spaces. We have a Mac at work with Lion. My workflow is as fast as on my XP-PC. Lion is Apple´s Vista...

I'm disappointed that I haven't seen this video earlier.

The frustration I got from when I first experienced Lion is quite similar to yours, the only difference is that I kept that inside of me. Also the "new" Spaces or actually the lack of Spaces in OS X Lion is very annoying in my opinion.

I'm happy that I'm not the only one hating Lion and being an Apple fan at the same time. Peace.

Mac OS X and Windows both suck. But Linux (NOT Ubuntu, they try to make it feel and look like Mac OS X) is pretty awesome. You said you don't have enough time to study linux, but after dealing with it for a few weeks at least, then you realize that you have a flexible, customizable, fast, stable and secure system. I use Arch Linux, it was hard to setup, but now I have an operating system that has no versions, it can be easily updated, it is lightweight and never bothered me again with problems.

It is easier for the software programmers at Apple to focus on Quickies that turn a profit than it is to produce a product that focuses on the user experience. Intuitive software takes much longer and is more difficult to program, yet the user experience is far superior when the software is programmed as such.

Unlike Alex, I have not been so lovingly accepting of the upgrades of OSX. Each generation makes the user RELEARN their Mac, and that totally SUCKS.

I was hesitant because I switched to MAC from PC and was worried about my PC printer, and scanner working with Lion. Snow leopard seems fine but I was going to download Lion because it was free and just ran across your video and you just saved me a ton of headache!!! Great review!

Alas, your dog still loves you! I'm with you, man! I've been using Macs since the days of OS 6 (I think) running on a MacSE. I suffered through the Dark Age (after Jobs was thrown out of Apple). When the first version of OSX came out in 2000 I immediately jumped abord and never looked back. I've installed, used, and re-configured more Macs than I can remember (part-time sysadmin at a University hospital). I was a really happy camper but Lion will most probably usher in the end of my Mac days!

You didn't mention how stupid Mission Control is: It groups programs, which seems nice, but all windows are displayed significantly (!) smaller than they were in the old Exposé and even worse: windows of the same program overlap. So if I'm working with, say, three Word-files, they're tiny, overlap and I'll have to specifically target the tiny corners that peek out underneath the active window... How stupid is that?

Two of the best and most honest reviews of Lion I've yet seen. My reaction is similar if less vocal: On a variety of purely objective points Lion is a huge step backwards that clearly shows that Apple no longer cares about the user experience. That's it. I work with a LOT of Apple professionals, people who work with them every day. We all see Lion as a train-wreck. Most of us are moving back to Snow Leopard. Fan-boys? Yeah, they love it, because they are completely unable to see it objectively.

Very entertaining videos, both this one and the first. I just recently received my iMac 27" with Mac OS X Lion pre-installed and never found it to be very hard to use. The issues you complained about, well I never saw them as problems since I have never, ever used a Mac before so I didn't have anything to compare against but Windows 7.

gone through the same rough WTFing realisation that they messed up with an already well working UX. I just recently bought an iMac with the trackpad, so I didn't encountered most of the problems that you had; maybe I would've reverted.

I never even launched spacelaunch or watever. But a few things that I liked about the new version is the quicker indexing of spotlight, the neater mail app, the new spaces ( never used spaces before but now it's quite nice) and inverted scrolling for trackpad.

Launch pad is for a tablet, and tablets don't have a right click, so the right click not working is intentional. Lion seems like the combining of iOS with Snow Leopard. I think the idea is that, as mobile devices and computers merge, they will just need one unified OS. Running Lion on a desktop should seem like a somewhat new Snow Leopard.
