You should go on a cross country road trip. Start in L.A. and end in Miami. Go down route 66, see the sights .......at 140+ mph. Provoke a few street races along the way. Intimidate every civic si, sti, srt, evo, 350-370z, corvette, and anything els that dares to line up next to you at a red light. And dont forget to stop and see me in Athens GA and let me drive that thing a little! lol

Here in the states it is all about muscle like my former 69 camaro 454 +20 over low nines)...true muscle not the fake horespower like bolt on. I mean cold air kits and exhast are not really bolt on, I am talking more about the turbos and pulley kits. If you want to eat rice go buy American!!!! And I would take the keys and tour all the race tracks and dragstrips in the states, and mabye even take down a couple of times
Drive as fast as possible while dodging the smokies on the route between Disneyland in Anaheim, California to Las Vegas, which is the route of the new commuter bullet-train, the pet project of Pelosi/Reid, paid for within the Stimulus bill, which is being signed into law this afternoon by Obama.
the ultilment road trip to me would be to come from detrolt to chatsworth ga travel 52 hwy over fort mountain go to ga hwy 5 in ellijay and burn it up on hwy 5 through japer head on down in too atlanta down 75 on in to florda hit the keys
MATT learn from LEO. Car companies sell cars. Car companies like people who help them sell things. If that help is praise or constructive criticism (criticism legitimized by the strength of the fan base) they don't care. If you help them sell cars...they let you drive cars....one more time...
If you help them sell cars, they let you drive cars.
well....hmm no road tip really i be making money(or losing it) on the track/street i also trick it out needless to say thats its tricked out now but as im a oddball i like my cars to be a oddball too XD
i have an expensive road trip in mind. when the gt 500 first came out ford ran a commercial of a guy that goes to germany with his shelby because he claimed he couldnt find a speed limit he liked in america. now that would be a killer road trip to take a shelby to europe and throw down with some of their roads
good video, but is the new shelby GT500 really supposed to be better? Did they sort out the issues with the previous generations? or is it just speculation at this point?
I hate to be critical of Shelby, since they've made some fantastic stuff before, but really all they did last time was take a pretty heavy car, add more weight, and give it a bump (a considerable one at that), and charge 1.5 times the price of a GT...
I'm a French guy, and I love driving to ski resorts in the mountains where the roads are extreme, such as the Alps. Wonder what a true spirited American car, especially a Ford Mustang, could do uphill... And downhill.
I think you should do a Roadtrip from NY all the way down to Arkansas, Bill Clinton's home state lol. You can come kick it wit me in Little Rock where we cruise down the strip by the River Market. Then take it to a little 1/8 mile drag strip in the quiet little town of Centerville, where you can murder some dudes. Then you drive through the mountains of Arkansas and somehow end back up on route 66. That would be original, but if you don't want to do that I would just go with the route 66 idea.
Seatle, WA to Key West, FL in the summer... Similar to your 2009 Mustang GT road test. I think that this would be the ideal GT500 test as well! We will see...
Matt I think you guys do a great job. I watch all ur vids... and I'm a STANG FAN! I'm thinking of getting the 2010 Mustang GT I just wish they would have gone with a DOHC instead of the SOHC, and wish they would have done Independent Suspension, or make seperate suspension set ups for the customer at least in the GT500.. But your vids help alot when it comes to purchase... thanks and keep up the great work.
Jaguar and Range Rover have been sold to Tata Motors, an indian company, so they are no longer, in my opinion, gonna meet their previously high standards, luckily this was done in mid to late 2008, anything before that is ford built
If you drive it, do NOT do stuff that has been done...drive somewhere less known. Through some remote mountains or something, and go through wilderness, and some Dukes of Hazzard dirt roads.
Ultimate Shelby road trip would be; Anchorage, Alaska to Chicago, Illinois then blast down Route 66 to LA and then to SF for the Bullitt chase. Also do you guys know if Ford are going to do another Bullitt model of the 2010 Mustang?
If you REALLY REALLY want a good episode (This might be kind of expensive but would get a lot of views and might pay off in the end) Take the new Mustang to Germany on the Autobahn and get some footage there. Take it to top speed, get some outside footage of the supercharger screaming as you wind it up and take off. You could also give an overall review of just how good and or bad it is. This is an episode I would LOVE to see.
The shelby should be taken to the road where you tested the Terlingua and be compared with kr and Terlingua so we can have a good idea of the sportyness and the raw power if this thing can take a g of force id like to see it against the most purpose built mustang sports car
I would have to say the ultimate roadtrip with a new Shelby GT500 would be start in Detroit, specifically Auto Alliance in Flat Rock where the Mustangs are built (just south of Detroit) and drive up through Michigan to the U.P., cross over into Wisconsin and head West until you hit Pacific. There are a lot of roads along that trip in the Northern deserted areas that have posted "no speed limit". I'd like to come along as a navigator, i'm cheap-ish.
I'd make a trip to hunt down an INDEPENDENT rear suspension (IRS) set-up. The whole "it's to expensive" excuse does NOT hold up. Come on seriously? This thing costs as much as a Corvette C6 and the C6 has IRS...others with IRS: 370z, RX8, MX5, WRX, EVO, G8, Challenger, '10 Camaro, G37, Solstice/Sky, S2000, etc. All of those are probably CHEAPER than a GT500. Too expensive? Riiiiiiight.
i honestly dont care what sort of suspention is on the car as long as it doesnt break mid corner when im going 85mph+ and so freaking what if its not independent like the s2000 or the g37 if im not mistaken those cars EVEN the 4wd version of the g37 and all the rally cars can hold a G on the skid pad. if you want to talk about suspension the vetts have leaf springs which are used in TRUCKS so why is it on a car? or for that matter a sports car? BECAUSE IT WORKS fyi the 370z uses wishbones
Wishbones ARE independent. Tires have a lot to do with G on a skid pad. A Corvette does have leafsprings...but they are used in an INDEPENDENT set up. The leaf is stretched PARALLEL with the axels not on each side of the diff and perpendicular to the axel. Sure does help the Corvette beat all kinds of records at the Nurbergring! I LIKE the 'stang. I just wish they'd pay more attention to the suspension so it wouldn't get SPANKED by a Lotus!
Im fully aware of the corvettes suspension as ive offten had to work around them when doing a couple of my ex's dad's brakes (gets in good with the folks;))and i thought that wishbones werent independent my mistake. and i like the mustang too but thinking of it having irs doent make me beleive that it will beat a lotus i think a lighter chasis with yoka's similar to what the elise has will do wonders and would be way more effective and then After thats tried and over find an irs setup.
The last generation Mustang Cobra had Independent Rear Suspension. Couldnt they just do something similar with a car that costs so much more??? I knew a guy that had a Mustang Cobra (not sure on the year--'99?) with IRS. He said it was a little squishier but had a much better ride and was more sure in the corners. All I'm sayin is that IRS wouldn't be a new thing for a 'Stang.
Screw a road trip, Take the shellby, and the fastest Camaro chevy can muster, and put them together, see who's left standing when the tire smoke clears!
Matt, If you are thrown the keys to a new GT500 I think you should take a road trip along the historic Route 66. I know some sections are now gone... but a good portion of it still remains. Nothing seems more fitting for a way to enjoy the new Shelby.
I own a Ford Mustang GT 09 45TH ANNIVERSARY! I had an 08 Ford Mustang GT...Somehow 09 is way better than 09..I dont know why..Not any mods..not even the rear axel tires..nothing..it even gives better mileage than 08..
Matt, if you get the keys and can do any trip with the Shelby, I would follow the Cannonball run from New York to Los Angeles, not necessarily at record speed, but just follow the route and give the car a few-thousand mile rundown
As a Mustang Gt owner a road trip that I love to drive on that Shelby would be from Mexicali to Tijuana in Baja California Mexico, a road called La Rumorosa, made with the use of tons of explosives by the mexican army; an impossible road claimed by USA. Hint if you get pulled over by a cop just pull out a 20-50 dlls bill and keep it rolling.
Great stuff keep at it...
Also That road appeared on the movie License to kill "James Bond"
I'm with the route 66 comment... Lots of road without a lot of cops... Nuff said! And well said kurlis! There are alot of roads in southern Wisconsin of all places that would really test the shelby quite well, while still being hella fun
Start in Bethlehem PA, the home of Lee Iococa, the inventor of the Mustang, and cruise on down to Texas. The path of the Mustang, from creation, to it's mutation into the super beast it is, a Shelby. Just my thoughts. Not to mention I am from Bethlehem PA, so there is pride there
I think cars on the hwy would make it challenging. Atlanta to New York. I85/I95. Hit the top limiter, then slow back down again, again, again, and then again.
hey matt, i think a cool road trip would be taking the shelby down route 66 just like the old days. not alot of traffic or cop attention so you could go as fast as you want.
The Mercedes Benz SLR Mclaren Stirling Moss edition....proof Mercedes had no idea what the hell to do with their money & thought it would be great to take the hood off of an already super fast, high luxury car and tune it a bit.
Next time make it with 1000 horsepower & rocket launchers in the grill, that's what I want to see :-)
I like Leo the suit, he reminds me of the dad from American Pie. And I tried to buy a green car last time but ended up with a petrol volvo V50. And a green car might help when trying to pull an eco chick!
Where would I go on my GT500 road trip? Probably southern cali. mind you i live in ny so that would be in a cross country trip... a fun as hell one at that
Why is the gt500 getting so much press. Its just another mustang with more power and the rubber is to skinny to support that power. Another underacheivment.
Again... a 200mph sheildless car is the absolute worst. As if verts arent bad enough. And they talking about wearing a helmet like it will make any difference in a crash with that car.
New Format. nice. this show has gotten really really good, theres no denying it.good job matt. i look foward to it almost as i do to a new top gear episode
LOL.. i was in a grumpy mood when watching his show. I'm actually quite a fan but got annoyed at the way he was commenting on each car. The slr stirling moss for example. the dude clearly said wearing a helmet makes the driver less safe in the vehicle because it adds more weight to the neck which could result in more serious injuries so why would you still want to wear a helmet? i was just annoyed.. relax ppl!
This guy sayin you dont need a helmet is absolutely insane. Thats like sayin hey go ride a motorcycle at 200 mph and dont wear a helmet. No aerodynamics are gonna save your head in a crash without a helmet.
"I wouldn't be doing my job if I thought you guys gave half a crap about green cars...I know I don't." Hahahaha, rofl. Nice Matt!
Really glad Jag finally made it to the 21st century. The XF is a great looking 4 door. GT500 is really great looking too. However, I'm really excited to see a brand new Mustang once this "retro" fad dies out...
my ultimate shelby roadtrip? i would go to all the Dodge and Chevy dealers in here in Georgia and do donuts in front of all the Challengers and Camaros, just to piss 'em off and let them know that the Shelby is still king.
i want the short dude injured. ALLOT!

New York to Vegas

i heard you can't handle it well and it sucks
nerddna 3 years ago
I think cars on the hwy would make it challenging. Atlanta to New York. I85/I95. Hit the top limiter, then slow back down again, again, again, and then again.

I would take it to Daytona,FL(where I'm from) and take it around the track.

I'd get it race ready, and tour all over north america going to tracks like miller motor sports park and to lagunaseca.

be creative and get ready to smoke rubber. with a car like the gt500 any road trip can be fun as hell if you get creative enough
ztunelover 3 years ago
hey matt, i think a cool road trip would be taking the shelby down route 66 just like the old days. not alot of traffic or cop attention so you could go as fast as you want.
muscletruckdude 3 years ago
I would take it to the autobahn in germany :P
67Eftw 3 years ago
the ultimate road trip, i'd say Nürburgring (Nordschleife) and the Autobahn
kurlis 3 years ago
ultimate Shelby roadtrip would be a trip from coast to coast stopping in couple major like sin city for example.
bigtymer9778 3 years ago
i know its almost impossible. but being able to go to the gumball 3000 would be really amazing! wit the mustang
f1andrew 3 years ago
great episode as for the gt500 road trip id just take a huge road trip racing any import that try's to mess with me along the way lol.

You get the leather cap and the goggles for free, what about the stick of celery?

I like Leo the suit, he reminds me of the dad from American Pie. And I tried to buy a green car last time but ended up with a petrol volvo V50. And a green car might help when trying to pull an eco chick!

Where would I go on my GT500 road trip? Probably southern cali. mind you i live in ny so that would be in a cross country trip... a fun as hell one at that

that slr sterling moss is amazing
thetimshow 3 years ago
Why is the gt500 getting so much press. Its just another mustang with more power and the rubber is to skinny to support that power. Another underacheivment.
Again... a 200mph sheildless car is the absolute worst. As if verts arent bad enough. And they talking about wearing a helmet like it will make any difference in a crash with that car.

matt farah is gay
dreamer221 3 years ago
wow then why watch the show?
MGolemme 3 years ago
Why is he gay? cuz he has a better job than you, he can drive what ever car he wants. care to elaborate
lbm323 3 years ago
LOL.. i was in a grumpy mood when watching his show. I'm actually quite a fan but got annoyed at the way he was commenting on each car. The slr stirling moss for example. the dude clearly said wearing a helmet makes the driver less safe in the vehicle because it adds more weight to the neck which could result in more serious injuries so why would you still want to wear a helmet? i was just annoyed.. relax ppl!
dreamer221 3 years ago
This guy sayin you dont need a helmet is absolutely insane. Thats like sayin hey go ride a motorcycle at 200 mph and dont wear a helmet. No aerodynamics are gonna save your head in a crash without a helmet.

"I wouldn't be doing my job if I thought you guys gave half a crap about green cars...I know I don't." Hahahaha, rofl. Nice Matt!
Really glad Jag finally made it to the 21st century. The XF is a great looking 4 door. GT500 is really great looking too. However, I'm really excited to see a brand new Mustang once this "retro" fad dies out...
epicvelocity 3 years ago 3
Oh and Shelby roadtrip: See Top Gear Muscle car episode. V8 + open desert road = the essence of the bread.
epicvelocity 3 years ago
man i am lovin that GT500!!!!
my ultimate shelby roadtrip? i would go to all the Dodge and Chevy dealers in here in Georgia and do donuts in front of all the Challengers and Camaros, just to piss 'em off and let them know that the Shelby is still king.
stigger91 3 years ago
haha and after that, I would drive all over the country...i would never get out of it.
