What a twist with the mom. I knew it had something to do with Miss Scattergoods. Great surprise. But a reminder of the tragedy of how homosexuals suffer because of society and fear of losing friends and relatives. She lost years of her life worrying about what the daughter would feel. The daughter suffered also. So 3 people were miserable instead of the truth making everyone happy. if....IF she had lost her daughter no loss as that is not love. Love must be unconditional or it is NOT love.
This makes no sense. Johnny and Helen are right and appropriate for each other. What is society so afraid of that the writers could not let these two stay together. The chemistry was right. The George/ Helen story is just his youthful fantasy, not let go. If she had ever felt anything for him she would have shown/felt it. If she turns to him now it is to satisfy a frightened traditional audience for what seems the comfortable thing. Johnny and Helen are the future.....George the past. Let it go!

Not being sarcastic but was she saying that word to shock her daughter even more than she was already shocked? If so, why?
