Good review - I saw the Swedish one first, which was fantastic.
But, if I must compare, this one is a great cinematic movie - while the other is a terrific piece of TV drama made on a comparatively low budget.
They both tell the same story in almost completely different ways - the Fincher version pays more attention to the murder mystery and less scenes in the Millenium offices.
Either way, they've both got something to say - it's well worth watching both.
I'm reading the book now after I got it for Christmas (yay) and I'm going to go see the movie. I heard theres a lot of violence against women in these books and the original version was called 'men who hate women' or something like that. Looks like a very stylistic flick, which is totally up my alley, I love films like that so I was excited to get the book and to see the movie!
I really appreciated your honest opinion. I decided to read the book before I see the movie, and am about 1/4 of the way through it and am really enjoying it. I'm finding the book gives a lot more back story - I haven't figured out yet why she has the dragon tattoo either but I still have a ways to go. If you're wanting more backstory on the characters I'd definitely recommend the book. I'm going to be visiting my "cool aunt" in a few days, so maybe I'll go with her to see it!
The original title of the Swedish book is "Men who hate women". The dragon tattoo title I guess was an easier sell for an international audience. Sad choice because the original title is central to the whole book series. /Swedish
personally i liked this movie more than the original Swedish movie (which is one of the best Swedish movies ever made), it makes sense that a movie taking place in Sweden is in Swedish language yes, but the language doesnt make a movie! This American remake was simply just better than the Swedish version, and i usually dont prefer remakes over originals! And that being said i am Swedish myself, alot of people in this country thinks this one is better than the original
i really liked the fact that this movie is shot in and takes place in my country Sweden, i guess you could notice that it didnt take place in America, with all those Swedish names and the currency kroner instead of dollars, i have been to Stockholm myself and i remember most of those locations and the subway, in the sequels to the book you learn why she have all those computer hacker skills, those sequels has also been made into movies here in Sweden, available on Netflix as well

@vaultkeeper2
I agree with you. It also stays much more faithful to the book. Both great movies, but the US one has the edge IMO.
