@Gigidag77 Excuse me?!? In 1994, he drove the same car Schumacher won the Championship with, and he only got one podium finish in Hungary... Verstappen was a good number 2 driver, but never a world champion to be...
If Jos had done more with the B194 than he did, he could have had a much better career. Yes, he was inexperienced. True, he had setbacks like the pit fire at Hockenheim. But still, he could have finished in the top six more often than he did. It doesn't take much to lose Briatore's interest, after all.
@Cain353 The key difference is that Verstappen's dismissal was purely about performance. Trulli's was about refusing to let Briatore control him more than he already was as his manager and team principal. Still, at least Trulli is welcome in F1 these days, unlike some people...
@dukeofstradone Yes, but Schumacher had a driving style completely different to all his teammates. The car was built around him in a way that it was almost completely undriveable for his teammates.
Too bad his own head isn't nailed on that perfectly anymore. I would have loved to see his comeback in F1 in Valencia. Shame his neck is not up to the job at the moment.
well, 1994 he drove a Benetton. But indeed, it was his rookie-year i think, and apart from this the car was build for Schumi.. and Jos were not the only one, who didn't come around with those Schumi-cars.. also did berger, alesi (the 96 benetton) and irvine.
Jos Verstappen, one of those typical F1 drivers who are talented but never made a major breakthrough because they always drove for minor teams. Benetton was an exception but with Schumi as his teammate, sheer madness.
This wasn't a pole... In 2003 they did the stupid system where it was one lap qualifying and your one lap would decide your grid position. To stop all the little Teams complaining about the Ferraris and McLarens getting the best slots they did this stupid Friday thing which decided when every car went out on the circuit. This then confirmed that Verstappen would be last out for Saturday Qualifying. Stupid session though, rain and then sun soon after, well done to Jos however!!!
Well said about him not getting the chance with a big team. Yes you can say that you've gotta make your own luck, but there are several guys who could really drive that didn't get it. For a hockey fan its like some of the greats who didn't win the stanley cup.
He was lucky to be the last of the Championship at that time, lol, for this permitted him to be the last to go in the prequalifying session, on a drying track, with the best cars having driven on a wet track. On a dry track for everybody, his Minardi wouldn't have allowed him to be P1.
I liked Verstappen when he was in F1, a nice driver.
They manage to win race only after 3 years and where top team in every race of 99. Most of teams never made to podium. Look at Red Bull or BMW ... how long they waited for win.
Wow some of you haven't been watching Formula 1 long. At one point back in the late 90's, Jos Verstappen had the biggest online fan club in the world. If you live in Holland, you're a fan of Jos 'The Boss'. He indeed had and to a point still does have one of the biggest fan followings of any athlete in the world.
When David Beckham heard that apparently he wanted to find out what else was bigger. He was pissed when he found out that the Gabber/Hardcore scene was bigger than him in holland.
you said "he still has one of the biggest fan followings of any athlete in the world."
That is simply not true. You may like to think he has - but he hasn't. Yes, he has a disproportionate number of fans considering the amount of talent he has, but this is not the same thing as having one of the biggest fan followings in the world. This is just a myth.

@azapro911,
True, Trulli managed to win at Monaco. And look what that got him, sacked before the end of the season and replaced by Jacques Villeneuve.
That's like chopping someone's dick off and shoving it up their ass.
