  • lovely song sung fabulously. a sad song if you listen to the whole thing.....the sad part is cut out here for some reason.

  • The best male vocalist of all time. A most beautiful and touching song. Sir Tom will always be a legend. There will never be another. I can't say enough about my favorite male singer/entertainer. I have loved him since I was 15 or 16 yrs old and still do at the age of 55. God bless him !! He puts his all into every song he sings !!!!

  • My favourite song growing up in the south of England. He was and still is an amazing talent.

Thats it! I'm going to see him in Vegas again. Just decided.

  • This is the masterpiece of Tom Jones!! It represents perfectly his romantic welsh spirit!!!

  • legend .....his voice has no paralell ...i was brought up listening to this man from my grandmother and then my mother and now i still havent heard anyone who can sing as good as this man

  • @shitdog68 Me too! And I took my now 13 year old daughter to see him when she was about 9 and she love him too

  • @shitdog68

Same with me. My mother played Tom Jones constantly when I was growing up in the Southwest of England. She was Welsh, and used to see TJ perform before the world heard about him.

TJ and Freddie Mercury are IMO, the 2 best vocalists of modern music EVER.

I took my mum to see him perform live in San Diego a few years ago ~ we had a wonderful time. A memory I cherish.

Sadly, she passed away 2 weeks ago. I played this song at her service.

RIP Mum - we miss you so much!

  • lol@Mrpatches was shocked to see he was white??? Lmao song have no color... However in his time he touched all our elders... and he sung this song with heart...

PS My Mum loved his music and My Nannie was From Lancashire her Husband South West Wales ...

  • lol@Mrpatches was shocked to see he was white??? Lmao song have no color... However in his time he touched all our elders... and he sung this song with heart...

  • If Tom Junes has that cross hanging out of his chest..... whay on earth Fu.king British Authorities sacked for a worker wearing one? did TJ offend F ing islamist? i believe NOT

  • There's a faint suggestion, in the military drum-beat of the opening, and in the piano style, that the song may refer to the American Civil War, perhaps relating to the execution of a Confederate deserter or spy. [Mario Petrucci]

  • best...............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is one of the greatest songs of all times. I wish all our lives could be so beautiful.

  • COUNTLESS BRAVOS!!!

  • Tom Jones is just f*cking cool

  • @goncalvespeloya

He sure does, love to hear him sing!

  • Elvis

  • When I was living so far away from home in another country, this song always made me cry thinking of home...

  • my mother and I used to cry when we heard tom sing this song (he should have the patent as no one sings it like he does); still going strong after 40 plus years, a simply amazing performer. long live tom jones. a fan forever...

  • the voice from heaven!!!!!!! something we will need x ever

  • What a wonderful live video , great too see, he was simply one of the best! and always a pleasure to listen too, thumbs up for a great video regards from Paladon.

  • Joan Baez version is better. There is more heart on it.

To sing folk music, you need heart.

Something like Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan did.

Tom Jones disapered trhough the years. Only a strong voice is not sufficiently.

Listen Alison Kraus you'll find out what I'm talking about.

  • ESPETACULAR!!! MARAVILHOSO!!!

  • He was great for sure but check out how Joan Baez sings this song..she will touch your soul with her version.

  • what happend to the rest of the song?

  • When heading for home after 6 months of mission down south, it was the one we played on the Juke Box. Then the whisky dollies knew it was time to say good-bye solider...

  • got no problem with god as long as some holy roller is not trying to shove him/her down my throat

  • Mr Jones looking quite hot here :)

  • Wondeful memoriesss of the songs. God give lang life!

  • love love im 11 years and i love tom jones

  • I love the way the old singers sing as good as their recorded voices.

  • Takes me home everytime what a voice

  • tom jone is the best! But what he was thinking making a gospel cd?

  • @Magazinonow

Easy, He's from a background of God fearing people basically. You got a problem with God.?

  • @Magazinonow I guess he was thinking of Welsh chapels.

  • Green green grass of home....Brillant !!

  • this is not 1986 but around 1983.. i was just out of high school and watched his show daily in syndication.

  • no place like home

  • I love Tom Jones!

  • @nellie2581

    me too

  • Nice CROSS!?! P.S... when did Uncle Tom become a 'cowboy'?

  • To me, Tom Jones has always been much more legendary than Elvis.

  • This is in the mid 70's NOT in 68 just FYI Tom still is amazing singer today.

  • Can't wait to go Home to visit! And see all my old friends.and my Dad!

  • Appears to be from 1974-76. Great stuff.

  • Good song;)

  • and there to meet me ....... :-) Precious! Love you.... you lovely Welsh soul! xx

  • You young people watching this don't remember, this is a theme song of every soldier in Viet Nam in the late sixties - all they wanted to do was come home and touch the green, green grass of home!

  • @angelballs1 isn't this song about about a condemned prisoner about to get the axe?

  • @roaringwaterbay I don't know! I guess I never listened to the whole song. My husband always said that the boys in Viet Nam always were reminded of home. Now, for sure, I will listen to it again. Thanks.

  • @roaringwaterbay Well, I watched some of Tom's other renditions of the song, one being in a jail cell, so I guess you're right, even though I didn't get the idea from the words. Can you tell me what to listen for (beginning, middle, or end?) But just the same, the soldiers of that era still I guess just heard what they wanted to hear, "I long to touch the green, green grass of home!"

  • @angelballs1 Ok, now I understand! I watched a Kareoke with the words of the song and I saw that it was just a dream and when he woke up he was in a jail cell, and that tomorow morning he'd be walking with an old padre. Thanks for letting me know! But I still don't think I will tell my husband - let him and the others have their memories as they remember them.

  • @angelballs1

Don't forget the word 'green' may have has significant meaning to them since the chemicals to kill vegetation were used in the war too. My brother served in this war and this was the song we all sang for returning soldiers. I remember it well.

  • @LongCreek1961 Thanks for your comments and yes, you are right, that Agent Orange took away all the "Green, Green Grass of their homes! I know a few former soldiers that were exposed to it a lot and they ended up dying of cancer! Great way the government let them fight for their country, right? Thank heavens my husband was not exposed to it much in Viet Nam!

  • @angelballs1 Well, unfortunately, my brother was exposed. Imagine the horror of small brothers and sisters gathered around a dining room table in the heat of summer looking over his shoulders at those photographs the censors didn't take. Without thinking his shirt came off and his entire back was covered in the most hideous lesions. The scars left behind are horrendous. To this very day once in a while some will return.

  • Always admired ole Tom... A) because of his voice B) because he grew up less than five miles away from where I've grown up...

but he looks like "The Hoff" in this clip.

  • @welshfilmbuff Don't you mean "the Hoff" looks like him in this clip? This is from 1968, long before "the Hoff" was around. ;)

  • @DuscaManolescu Actually, this clip is from 1986 ; it's the song itself, that is from 1968...

so this look he has here was post Knight Rider ;-)

  • @DuscaManolescu what was or is the "Hoff?"

  • Grew up listening to this song. My dad loved always singing Tom Jone's songs on kareoke.

  • 1968 ..the year I sailed to the Old Blighty from my own country and listened to Tom Jones here on the TV everytime he appeared...usually on Saturdays.. Great voice,

  • Wow!! Thanks for the memories.

  • this is about my step mums friends mum x

  • my dad loved tom when he came on the tele we all had to be quiet good memories sadly my dad died 10 years ago miss you dad x

  • Music in the original '68 version of song sounds much more suitable, rather a *lot* of drums in this one.

  • Beautiful Voice!!!!Thanks Tom for all the Years!!!!!

  • Always makes me happy listening to his beautifull voice

  • Best singer in the world.Tom Jones.I love Your songs very mach. From:Tokyo JAPAN.

  • @ymhr1948 I prefer Elvis. No doubt.

  • @ymhr1948 Why are there no stud male vocalists ever come from Asian countrys?I cant imagine anyone from Tokoyo singing and dancing like Tom Jones,Elvis or even George Michael and getting any womans vaginal area wet enough to stick a snake in?

  • yes it is sad because eventually we all die.

  • If you believe in going to heaven after death and if all your loved ones are also going there why be sad? Be happy!

  • First danced to this at the Locarno is Streatham, SW London back in the 60's must say its Tom's best.

  • I also love this song because it reminds me of my dear Mother

  • This clip is from an old Canadian tv show Tom used to have in the early 80's. I admit, the look he has here is a bit cheesy...but he is singing great as usual. I know this song reaches a lot of people...I hope you friends will check out my cover version I have posted here...

    Cheers!

  • I've seen him sing this, it' will make your hair stand up on ends! I love it!! Thanks for posting!!!

  • A lot of Tom's songs I really like. The Vegas style cheese however is too funny. I guess they can't all be as cool as Captain Beefheart.

  • Green Green Grass of Home

originally made popular by Porter Wagoner in 1964

  • yes very nice song and video....

  • la verdad muy bueno!

  • Wow, WTF did he do to this song here? Half of the lyrics are missing and the whole meaning of the song is gone.

Listen to one of his other versions with all the lyrics or someone else's version with all the lyrics. It's a truly great and very sad song...but this version is a butchering.

  • I can only guess that this is a clip from a variety show or something like that-and it probably got butchered that bad because of time constraints. Which isn't unusual.

  • A Great song and a brilliant welsh singer Tom is love Shirlsxx

  • i like to smoke the green green grass from home, lol!!!

  • true true bro!..... lol

  • Oblíbená písnička Alexandra Dubčeka.

  • this is not from the 60's, it from the late 70's/early 80's

  • Why does everything have to come down to this racial nonsense? If you want to make a difference get up off your ass and away from the computer and do something about it. If not quit being a fool and enjoy.

  • wales the land of song !!!

  • EPIC!!!
