  • Some Time ago, I thought this mod will be a Great idea, but then I said: "naaah, nobody is crazy enough to do it" ... I was wrong. Keep Forward !.

  • hi I am in the UK (London) and I have a CDi 220 the only issue with it is the CD drive is not working, I suspect it is a mechanical problem or gearing,,(& one belt needs replacing) but I can not find anywhere to repair it, I am certain for someone like you it would be an easy fix, do you know anywhere I could get it repaired? I would be very grateful, thanks, Baco

  • I don't know anywhere, and you'd have to find the right laser unit for it to work. The one on my system works fine, problem with such old electronics is it will fail over time. Normally, old CD drive units don't use belts they use a motor to move a solid track that moves the laser unit back and forth; moder drives like the Wii tend to use small belts.

  • @MODDEDbyBACTERIA hi , I am pretty sure the laser is fine, the the motor doesn't spin that's all, also the belt I was referring to can clearly be seen when the draw is open so I assume its to do with the gearing of the draw open mechanism. I tried replacing it myself but could not find a belt to use as a substitute ,thanks for your reply, if you think of anything that may help? please reply back..thanks again.

  • up to you, and no guarantee I can do anything at all; if you're prepared to potentially waste the cost of postage both ways, then i'll happily open your console and see if I can work out the problem to fix it; however it is on the basis that you've dismissed the console as "dead" so if I can't do anything with it, so be it; if however I manage to make it work then you've got a working system again! If you're interested, send me an email and I can give you my address details - up to you.

  • @MODDEDbyBACTERIA I have sent you a PM today RE the CD-i... ... .. :-)

  • MAH BOI

THIS PROJECT IS WHAT ALL TRUE WARRIORS STRIVE FOR

  • @LunaVorax Im so hungry i could eat an OctoRock

  • you should mass produce these

  • Very cool!

  • So, basically you've made a dedicated Hotel Mario machine? Cool.

  • Yes, in effect, with original hardware and no emulation.

  • you should do next gen version of this with 360 and ps3

  • I have no interest in "wavy stick" consoles in this project, this system is retro console systems; was going to take Xbox but due to size issues, will be Atari - PS2. I'm not interested really in the original Xbox, I prefer old-school consoles really, not "PC wannabe consoles".

  • @MODDEDbyBACTERIA wavy stick??? I didn't mean adding them to this build but actual new project so you would have all retro in one and newer in another.

  • I don't really like modern consoles, much prefer strong gameplay and so-so graphics than amazing graphics and low gameplay value. Retro consoles have some amazing games, and cheap to buy too!

  • HELL YEA SO SOON AFTER THE LAST!!!! - Hung Necromancer

  • Had a couple of days clear, and I know what i'm doing now; also, there isn't much work you can do on the CDi really.

  • @MODDEDbyBACTERIA I only have 4 people who's video's i look forward to. wesgrosscustoms, RetroGameTech, You And The Amazing Atheist. i really wanna get a job so i can start modding and participationg more on the forums

  • Thanks for the praise!

  • @MODDEDbyBACTERIA absoloutely no problem!

  • @MODDEDbyBACTERIA r u going to use the fat or slim ps2 and when will you post the vid?

  • The fat PS2; system is already built, just need to make the controller, then finish off the videos for the PS2 and post it.

  • I know you said you are only interested in Mario on the system, but it seems a shame to take a short cut on the cd loading tray when you have put all the work into every other system's cd loading tray so far. Can't wait to see the end of this project it's certainly going to be unique.

  • Well, my intention originally was to make it front loading with pull-out tray as with the GameCube and Amiga section, however, as you see from the pile of around 45 games, there was only one I liked, and was the reason I bought the CDi anyway; with that in mind, there seemed little point going to the extra work of making it a pull-out tray section, especially as the PS2 doesn't need it (the CD tray pops out); may as well make it "permanent", which is what I did.

  • The Philip CD-i next? Awesome but I know it is not that good but:

"Mah boi! This is what all true warriors strive for!" :)

  • lol. I didn't just want to do the ho-hum well known systems, I am doing those in this project, but am also doing less known/liked systems, eg Amiga CD32, Philips CDi, Amstrad GX4000, Intellivision.
