I still get jealous of him and his love kay lenz.I had such a crush...Lucky kay. If I was her I would have never let him go No matter what! I would have loved him to the end of time.
@karinablacktie: For sure. This is one of those songs often covered, but seldom covered well. (The other one came out about the same time: _Some Velvet Morning_). Cassidy seems to be not so much covering The Left Banke, but rather that 4 Tops cover.
Kay Lenz was one of my favorite actresses in the 70's She was so talented. It didn't surprise me that David and Kay got married. This video is very sad. They are happy today though with their lives. David did a wonderful cover of Walk Away Renee. I enjoy it as much as the earlier two versions, including the original version.
@leighbricken I looked on my favorite torrent tracker, this song is on the album Touch of Blue, unfortunately there are no seeds though. I did a Google search for Touch of Blue torrents and I found one with 2 seeds. If u know about utorrent, u may be able to get it.
Ok, from the perspective of my 11 year old mind, I had never seen a smile like that, in my life. I still pine for it all, sometimes. It's just as fun to enjoy him, now, knowing that in the songs he's been recording more recently, he sounds so much more happy, and, self confident. His voice just melts one, the same as always, only now he can put more energy into his singing, because he's more moved by the material. So proud of you, David!!
Btw, it wasn't the "typecast" issue that bothered him. Put in context the era - eg. real Beatles and "fake" Monkees (even tho they did have talent - love 'em!!!). In the 60's and 70's "real" rock musicians wrote, sang AND played their songs. He was a talented musician and wanted the world to know it and not be cast as a TV "fake". I don't blame him - for it's time. Today it's not looked at the same way and he'd easily do concerts showing he's got chops. (Monkees had the same issues).
@derekec I can't agree more.. Musicians can be more diversive now.. David, as well as The Monkees (I love 'em, too), got stuck in the pop, bubblegum, heart throb genre and couldn't pull away... Not sure if Cassidy would have found the fame he received through The Partridge family, same with the Monkees..
I like this version, not as much as the original but still enjoyable. He puts his own signature twist on it.
They made a nice couple - probably still hurts losing that - at least for it's place in time. But don't we all have those hurts. I genuinely hope he's happy now.
@msss22 The Four Tops were not the original group to record this song, The Left Banke was in 1966. But the Four Tops did an absolutely amazing job with it!
Did you know this song actually inspired the song More Than a Feeling by Boston? You can hear some of the chords from this song in More Than a Feeling, and when the guy from Boston was in college, he heard this song and was inspired to make his own version.
He hated singing those "bubble gum" Partridge Family songs as he called them but he really was much better at singing them then emotional songs like this because he over acts like a kid in a school play.
Love the song and this clip of David Cassidy with the fantastic voice. Love all the pictures and memories of him here. Never have went to see him live but would like to. He was in Portland back in the 70's but I lived in Oklahoma at the time. God Bless you
Lord he was beautiful. So was she! What a bloody gorgeous couple. They look so happy! Not sure how it turned out but boy, makes you want some of that!
This is just....awful. Good Lord - what happened to the haunting, baroque-like flute and soulful voice of Steve Martin from the Left Bank? David, David, DAVID - this version just sucked moose balls. Sorry, guy. Sounds like someone has a gun to his head and is making him sing this. Yikes.
Wow,Sumer...Never heard this one yet either...I am crying like a baby!LOL! I am 49 years old! :) This one really made me want to go back in time...I was trying to figure out who the woman was, then read it was Kay Lenz below from you telling someone, I remember her. Was that his first wife, I was so young at the time. Gosh, I really love it, I keep watching it over and over, LOL! :) I will never get over David, never ever! I need to find Hurts so bad now! :) I REALLY LOVED IT!!!!!!!
I saw him in concert a couple of years ago in Boston and unfortunately he wasn't very good. The audience left in droves. If he had included this song in his set the floodgates might have been stemmed. A respectable version.
Orpheus is another band that recorded a great cover of this song.
By far, the best renditions of this song are the original by Left Banke and by the Four Tops. What David Cassidy and Rick Price mean by slowing the tempo I do not know. Rick Price's version is far too slick to be worth the listen.
I've never seen these photos of David and Kay Lenz before. He seems very happy and in love wih her at the time. But she - or he - did indeed walk away.
The hairstyle I see many young men wearing now was poplular right before the mullet...or layered/shag type cut. I'm talking about the cut that combs down across the brows at a slight angle and is close to the eyes. The mullet can look horrible when the front and top are puffed up and the back is really long. Still, I have a feeling the shorter "shagged" version will soon follow the style I mentioned.
Listened to any PF stuff lately? Well-crafted pop that stands the test of time, IMO. I've ODed on "I think I love you" but was pleasantly surprised to rediscover "I Can Feel your Heartbeat', "I Woke Up in Love This Morning", "Summer Days", "Every Little Bit of You", "Brown Eyes", "One Night Stand", "Umbrella Man" ... As for DC's singing, check out "Oh No (No Way)", "Common Thief", "Love Song Unplugged", "Hold on Me" or his cover of "Darlin'" posted here. The man could sing.
I don't know why celebrities get married if they just get divorced later on and marry someone else. "Marry"...the idea is to take a lifetime mate. Not to have a wedding, ditch it, try another, ditch it, try another...marriage isn't marriage unless it's with one partner. A lot of celebrities treat marriage like it was a trial and error thing. Just stay together without getting a formal wedding. Know what I mean?
Hey, this is a cool clip. I followed "Jo"over on this one! Kay Lenz was cute. Yep, Rich Man, Poor Man, Breezy, AND also in American Graffiti (chasing the teacher). I also think she was in an Andy Griffith episode when Opie had his band playing at a party. One of the girls. Great vid.
I think David was a fan of classic rock and roll and wanted to have a band and be taken seriously in that genre. He wasn't into the Pop thing. These songs made him a success though. His looks were a big help, too! I know I had posters of him all over my walls as a kid!
Kaye Lenz looks a lot like an actress on the show "one Tree Hill", Bethany Joy Lenz, who coincindentally does not seem to be related to Kaye. (Her name is now Bethany Joy Galotti.
Well...if this version grew on you (afterawhile of course) then "The Four Tops" VERSION will really grab ya-especially with the late Levi Stubbs lead vocals...
I always thought that David/Kay made such a groovy-looking couple! Even tho they are no longer together, I wish them both the best!
Being in my teens in the 70's seeing these videos brought back some really nice memories. They both looked great together and so natural. She had a natural talant for acting espeically in Breezy & Rich Man Poor Man. Haven't seen her in anything recent though. But they made a very young and innocent and beautiful couple in this video.
who care he did it and still can he made it ok who care what they casted him as teen idial he was great then and today still and did awome on this as most all who made it hhave to respect them it ruff life
To Facekid "Did Kay Lenz ever remarry?" I've never seen anything about Kay re-marrying. However, she is a very private person and it is hard to find anything about her. Oddly, she doesn't even have a website. She is still acting and guest starred in the 2007 season first episode of "House". She stayed busy in movies and TV shows through the 90s but seems to have slowed down somewhat. She is 55 now but being 50ish for us baby-boomers is when you are suppose to have "arrived"!
Great video! Cassidy had some talent but was typecast as a "Teen Idol" David was always older than the parts he played, he was born in 1950. He deliberatly retired but then found out he couldn't comeback. His marriage to Kay Lenz was a high point of the 70s. But David lost his money and had a drinking problem while Kay was focused on her career. The marriage hurt them both. Eventually they both got going again. Kay won an Emmy in 1989 and David has performed on stage, recorded and toured.
That is Kay Lenz, David's first wife- yes she was/is an actress. After that divorce, he married Merl Tanz (she was into beautiful race horses) and that didn't last long. Now he is married to Sue Shifrin and their son Beau is all grown up and has the most gorgeous eyes.
That's my name Renee. And I used to have a crush on David Cassidy when I was younger. And I never knew till today that there was this song that David Cassidy sang...Wow!
I haven't been able to stop watching the original video from Shindig since I found it a year ago. This is a beautiful composition also but the original with Jimmy O'Neil introducing it is great. Yes, David did find the dream girl. Kay seemed to be so natural but then I'm just guessing like most others. She just seemed like the perfect 60's girl. Watch Breezy with Kay and William Holden. Strong message.
If you haven't viewed the Left Banke original, you will never get the gut feeling of this song. Since a few other viewers have talked about the Left Bank video of Walk Away, the viewership has jumped 25,000 in less than a month. Keep the love going! Left Banke baby! (good job David C)
i still love david casidy he is awome i have to do some copy of him.play it and put up on her with other stuff i have sing's great no doubt and his new stuff to man gret to allway's rick
sorry....he had the dream girl and let her go...how hard is it to lay off the booze to keep a dream girl...?...pretty hard i guess....just to walk away is easier i guess...sorry Dave...hope you found happiness anyway...
Really great photos and David does a wonderful version does of this great classic--nice job! Yes I also think they really loved each other and made a very beautiful couple--they even look alike. I met Kay Lenz at the end of their marriage and I can say one of the main reasons she split was because of David's drinking problem at the time. He lost a beautiful lady. He seems happily married again, though, and I doubt he'll make the same mistake twice.
They Were a beatiful couple, really...what a pity, really! But are still friends? Somebody Knows Why They cut? (I apologize for my terrible English) I was so young when they married and I loved them!
I have no idea, One can speculate? I would think it probably had to do with their age, and it was a really rough time I think in David's career and his family. I really don't know?
I used to have it bad for Kay Lenz. I never knew David did too. He's got great taste They made a good couple. If your a Kay Lenz fan check out the 70's movie 'Breezy' directed by Clint Eastwood. Thank you SumerKis38
hey sumerkis, your vids are great, and for any D.C. FAN its a wonderful tribute to such a talented man, who has sustained for the laast almost40 yrs. thanks so much. love him always
I never knew he was married to Kay Lenz. I first saw her in a T.V. movie called: "Lisa, bright and dark" in the early 70's, and it was a great performance. She's so loveable.
thank you Smerkis38...I have not seen alot of pictures when he was married to actress Kay Lenz...so thanks I appreciate it and the video montage of pictures

The woman in the pictures, is that David's wife? she looks familiar, like she is an actress I believe?

Didn't know that David Cassidy sang this song.
That's my name Renee. And I used to have a crush on David Cassidy when I was younger. And I never knew till today that there was this song that David Cassidy sang...Wow!
What an amazing surprise!

Hi Folks,
If you haven't viewed the Left Banke original, you will never get the gut feeling of this song. Since a few other viewers have talked about the Left Bank video of Walk Away, the viewership has jumped 25,000 in less than a month. Keep the love going! Left Banke baby! (good job David C)

David sure did love her. What happened to them? They grow apart? Or was it his career? GREAT VIDEO. GOD IS GOOD!

I never knew he was married to Kay Lenz. I first saw her in a T.V. movie called: "Lisa, bright and dark" in the early 70's, and it was a great performance. She's so loveable.
