  • Awesome view, and the sounds! ~OneKewpie~

  • The reason this is the only SP GS-4 left is because it is the only one that Chuck Norris likes.

  • thats a crap load of smoke

  • 3 people just plain suck, or are blind. the Daylight is the most beautiful train ever made

  • this train makes Chuck Norris grin ...Ü !

  • aaaaah, nothing better then fresh air ^^

  • You gotta love its horn...

  • Is it just me, or does it sound like he spun the wheels and had to let off the throttle early on in this vid.

  • @salemcripple Yea she spun her wheels big time in that tight radius. Normal for her. She has more power than she has weight to stick it to the rail.

  • I'm surprised she still has a full consist its amazing that the real train is still here yet we can't get and HO scale model of it for anything less then $2000

  • Do the driver & fireman always put on a performance like that or only when there are people around?

  • @pcnerd2 Thsi is a photo run by. The Engineer drops off the passengers, backs up, then opens everything up to insure a killer photo or video.

  • 4449 always look regal with a big head of white steam. I enjoy watching her on a cold morning because it turns her steam white.

  • Dude, Why didn't you exept my video response? : (

  • Its so cool to see these birds man they are classics i would have so loved to live during the era of steam!

  • 5*****!

  • I Expect It'll Be You! Replied The CMSTP&PRR 4-8-4 Northern #261!

  • I have been in love with this beautiful Locomotive for 30 thirty years, She came thru my little town (Lathrop, Ca.) in 1978 sporting the "Freedom Train" colors when I was 6 years old. I will tell you all it was love at first sight ! My Addiction to steam is all your fault !!!

  • I saw this engine a while back early this month I was going West on the Amtrak Empire Builder eating in the diner when this passed us going east I was upset to not get a shot of her I happend to look out the window as it passed us I was upset to not have been able to get a shot ot it passing us but nonetheless a very pretty engine

  • She was on her way to Owosso, Michigan for Train Festival. By the Way, even though you didn't get a shot of her, you still got lucky to be on an Amtrak train and see a real steam locomotive pass, that dosen't happen very often so you got lucky.

  • yah I figured that was the case I saw alot of Private railcars on the rear all from owners I know I however was on the way to Seattle to go up to Canada all by rail I did miss the shot but you are right seeing her from an Amtrak train was nice my pain on that got eased because the next week I was on the UP 844 from Denver to Cheyenne another Awsome piece of mechinery I was very impressed by the 844..the California Zepher was on a reroute through Wyoming and 844 passed them too in Colorado

  • I did get the honer of rideing behind this engine a few times before one was the final run of the Montana Daylight excoursion train and the other was on the NRHS Portland trip with the SP&S 700 but the damn photo shop lost all those photos so I have nothing but memories of the NRHS trip but my trip on the MRL across Montana was great with this engine one of my favorites but I was in awe by the 844 WOW

  • Beautiful location, if you like senic locations like these, you will love "The Spot" in Niles Canyon.

  • Im from New Zealand, i bet that this beautiful machine in twice the size of the steam engines we've got.

  • 5000hp, 475,000lbs, 80" drive wheels, 78,000lbs of tractive effort, and I forget how long she is with the tender, but its big.

  • wow The biggest we've got here ( our Ka class 4-8-4 )is - Weight in working order: 145 tons. Overall Length: 69' 7 15/16". Maximum Height: 11' 6". Maximum Width: 8' 6". Water Gallons: 5,000. Fuel Oil Gallons: 1,600. Boiler Pressure: 200lbs per sq in. Cylinders: 20" x 26". Firebox Heating Surface: 190 sq ft. Tractive Force @ 80%: 30,815 lbs. so she's only a small pup compared to 4449
  • Yea, should be said the boiler pressure on the 4449 is 300psi. Superheated as well.

  • It IS twice the size of your steam engines, dude. :P Smaller countries tend to have smaller locomotives.

  • yep makes our steamers look like models haha:)

  • that sound twice in the beginning........ that was wheel slip if i'm not mistaken

  • It was.

  • It's got a horn like a battleship!

  • Its horn isn't really used. The whistle is.

  • sometimes it is, for major grade crossings. theres a switch in the cab thats flipped to turn the air horn on automaticly when the whistle chord is pulled. the horn is the same type used as Alco PA's, so they operate on a chord thats pulled....

  • steam in all it's glory.

  • Wonderful engine. I like the American trains very much.

  • The location of this video was shot at Crescent Lake Oregon. I know this area because it is very familar to me. Because this is my weekend stomping ground

  • It almost sounds like it's shifting gears when it rounds the corner. Must have been some slick rails.

  • Well, it is a tight corner for a loco her size. I bet she started to ride up on the flanges a bit.

  • THIS IS AMERICA!

  • I love trains!

  • awesome video!

  • The high pitched sound you hear is switch heaters, which were left on after an snowstorm the night before.....

  • That ones a beauty. I disagree that disels should not be used over steam. This has a perfect paintjob and it shines.

  • An exquisite sight. I wish steam locomotives and trains such as this still reigned supreme on American railroads from sea to shining sea. It would be such a wonderful sight to see these beauties pulling into stations again instead of the ugly diesels used now.

  • well, I wouldn't say the disels are that ugly, but I totally agree with you on the rest. These pictures make me wanna go back in time!!

  • What a beautiful, fabulous sight. "Now she is a real beauty". I did not know they still ran steam trains in America!!Thanks joelpatricksimmons for shareing this video. : )

  • just about bring's ya to well-up watching.

    that is soo Bad A**!!!!!!!

    wow.

    Nice vid Bro

    thanks for posting.........Lola.

  • That video was fantastic! You even caught a little bit of wheel slipping from the engine! This deserves 5 stars!

  • Did the whistle always "skip" or is that just the tape or the engineers style? I have heard this on some of the other clips.

  • thats just the tape. My equipment is old.

  • @neomrdo then reload it

  • ..........I LOVE THE DAYLIGHT

  • Awesome. I've seen her slip majorely before. And for those who really get into personifying her, listen to the smoke release, you can almost make out her cursing before getting back into the rythem and becoming the dainty girl again.

  • What causes that slip?

I didn't realize it was only a two tone whistle. Why not more tones in the whistle? Thank you.

  • Insufficient adhesion for whatever reason. Too light, oil, etc. Needs sand.

  • Too much steam admission. Any number of reasons.

  • Great stack talk and a slip , 5 stars

  • wuau, esta locomotora es impresionante!!!

  • Great train and great video! Love the camera work. Are you on a tripod as it rolls by?

  • I believe this is Cresent Lake,OR on Union Pacific's Cascade Sub.

  • Wow great video, a rare one too just because she slipped =P

    Where was this at??
