@arlo4823 I thought it was OK at the time I made it but I can understand if it distracts you. We're all different. The point of background music is to keep it slightly more interesting since the way I talk is boring as fuck. oh and good thing I'm no professional trainer then :-)
Themusic bed is way too loud and overpowers the narration. Why people insist on laying down music under the narration is foreign to me me. It's so annoying and is opposite of what any professional trainer would ever do.
hey, when i hit the toms they sound awesome live, with just the perfect amount of sustain, but when i mic them they sound like a dead thud, almost like the bass drum. how can i make the tom sound more natural
@kzone92 Sounds to me as if you have your toms tuned way too low. Something called "JAW" tuning which stands for "Just Above Wrinkles". That means you tune the tom up just enough so that the wrinkles are sort of gone, which gives a very fat attack and low sustain but this is not how they should be recorded :) I'd suggest tuning them up a little bit instead.
@pachucano Nope I didn't, the raw sound from the toms sounded pretty okay. Way too much mids though but I guess that's what you get with that combination of the room, the drums, the drumheads and the tom mics. Fixing it in the mix is not a good way of thinking but... sometimes you have to :)
@BASBERT The overheads are not the only important thing, everything is equally important. The only thing I sound replace is the kick drum (original mic blended with a sample about 30 (original) / 70 (sample) ratio) and snare drum (blended about 60 (original) / 40 (sample) ratio), all toms are natural, no sound replacement.
@AmbitiousMOnkey1100 Hey! I cut it myself like 6 years ago and even though it has suffered some punishment there is still no cracking so I think it's safe to say you can cut it yourself.
@tazrevo No those are the tom mics that come with that drum mic kit from JJLabs. But it is possible to use popular vocal mics on toms as well, such as the SM58 or 57 too. Everything "works", it all depends on what result you want :)
Dude, you're recording metal. D112 is a mic designed to capture low end. Of COURSE D112 is gonna suck for the kick sound you're going for. Hell, a snare drum has more low end than a typical metal kick. D112 is marketed as a kick mic because every single other genre on the planet actually likes having their bass drums move some bass. It's by far my favorite mic on non-metal kick. For metal kick, my favorite mic is a trigger.
@mamapapa7 (svarar på engelska så andra förstår) The kick is blended with another sample at about 50/50 ratio so yes it's "triggered". The snare also has a sample blended in but at a lower ratio, something like 65/35 so most of the snare sound is my own snare. The rest of the kit is all natural. Part 6 is coming in a few minutes actually, stay tuned :)

@GuitarGodgt the D6 is a great mic as well as the Beta52 but there' s a reason why you see a D112 in every single major recording studio on the planet.
I know dude, I own both. I loath the sound of the D112 for metal. I think it shines on floor toms and bass cabs WAY more than it does on kick. Honestly I don't even think they should bother marketing that thing for kick, the D112 needs to much post mix crap to get it to sound anything better than junk.
@falstudios There will be in Part 4 :) Next part (Part 3) will be covering overhead mics for the drums so it'll be a few more minutes of boring talk but after that, it's going to get a lot more fun - I guarantee you that! Part 5 is going to be guitars and that should be plenty of fun too :) Stay tuned!
@StudioErdo@Lifesucksdie123 Yeah I know :| Anything is better than that kick mic in the video really.. sadly :) I'll have to see what happens in the future.
@StudioErdo i know man, i hear ya. a good kick mic is going to be a HUGE improvment over your 58. but what's really gonna blow your mind is if you can get another kick mic for the outside to blend with the inside. that's what will really flip you out! anyway, good luck brotha~

Äh, overheadsen var väl det enda viktiga. Du soundreplace:ar väl ändå resten? Tankade hem ditt samplepack från ultimatemetal btw, jäkligt nice.

you just use vocal mics for toms and kick drum? Thats what it looks like? Do they actually work well?
