man really good song. my school's choir has only been around for like 5 years. we attempted this song in the 4th and well we were so close. really good job though!!
You are right... This is closest all white groups I've heard that actually came close to singing like the way Moses Hogan's group sings it. This was a very good job.
WOW! That bass section made my jaw drop at the beginning! The tenors rocked their high part too-- well done, men!! The women are a bit too tremulous for my liking (sopranos especially), but this performance is excellent overall :)
I've searched long and hard on youtube for the best performance of Moses Hogan's song; and this is it. The Sopranos are perfect, the Bass section is spectacular, and everything vocal section in between is wonderful. Great Job! A+
I recognize this conductor, he was in the Carnegie Hall Centennial Choir with Robert Shaw conducting; if he sang with Shaw then it's no wonder is choir sounds this good.
You got it right. I had the pleasure of attending the Oklahoma Arts Institute with Dr. McCoy as clinician. He's sung with many other incredible conductors such as Eric Ericsson as well. He's also President (elect?) of ACDA. North Texas is very lucky to have him. Please keep posting UNT choirs!
Thank you!!! FINALLY... a majority choir that can sing a spiritual. I get so sick of ignorant people trying to sing spirituals like they're vocal jazz or something. Gimme my damn vibrato!!!!
Dude... I almost want use vulgarity to describe HOW amazing this performance is. (I got to the High Tenor melody at the end of the piece, and I couldn't concentrate on typing so much that I forgot how to spell "performance" GREAT JOB!)
This is the University of North Texas A Cappella choir, directed by Jerry McCoy. This video is from a high school in west Texas (recruiting tour) in January 2007.
Holy crap! Now THAT is a bass section! I reminisce on when my choir tried to do this spiritual, which is not easy by ANY means, and it's just a rather...painful...memory, to say the least. EXCELLENT performance.
that was impressive. it's easy to screw up this song because the basses tend to overpower the tenors and the balance gets out of whack. great balance indeed.
is this UNT in Denton, TX? You guys sound great! The basses are kick ass (coming from a kick ass bass 2)...I almost went to this school, I am almost regretting it. Tenors you are amazing, Sopranos yall did that! And the soprano belter at the end, yes girl!!!
This is by far the best performance of Moses Hogan's arrangement. A+
