When I was 9 in 69 I had gotten a transistor radio for my birthday. This song was on the air It became one of my favorites and helped me along to understaning the Birds and the Bees!! Thanks for the memories Frankie of Boston!!
Grill died July 11, 2011 in an Orlando, Florida hospital. He had been in a coma since sustaining a head injury several weeks earlier when he fell after suffering a stroke in northern California. Rob Grill was 67 years old at the time of his death. (Don't know if your other assertion regarding Grill and Coonce is true that they had another ailment.)
I've been going to see them since they were @ the "teen fair" inside the Minnesota state Fair since 1967. I've seen them quite a few times since then as co-band w/Three Dog Night.
Wow! You people are either stupid or young. Either way do some research before you throw out your insults. I suspect this was the original version. Later it must have been rearranged to become the hit it was. So this is probably the original arangement and the other version that we have all know and love is probably a rearrangement.
This is not the original hit. What's the deal here? The music sounds the same, but the voice is definately different. It sounds like a karaoke version. This isn't Rob Grill.
@ceterababe I uploaded this song from the CD with the cover that's shown. Every song on this remake is in stereo from the some of the original members of the group including Rob Grill. Rob has never left the group since they originally formed. On the CD it is clearly stated "Original recording remastered". Every song that I have uploaded has been tapped by copyrightso there must be some sort of originality to them and Rob probably holds those copyrights.
@ceterababe If you go to the version with ROb Grill he has more body to his voice and sounds superb compared to this..Maybe they pulled his voice for monetary reasons or something..??
Music today just cant compare to the music that we grew up with.... Funny isint it ??.... My kids listen to alot of the music that i listened to as a kid... I dont listen to theirs !!
WoW..........when music was PERFECT. I could hear and understand every word. 1968 Camaro, 8 track player under the dash, bell bottoms, Jack Daniels T Shirt, little sweetie in her halter top, full moons on a country dirt road, and 40 cents a gallon gas. Respected my Dad, Loved my Mom, and America was the greatest country on earth......... and will still fight about it all ! Been There - Done That - How About You ???
Look at the related video list to the right. The top one with the orange Grass Roots lettering and the purple band at the middle with the picture of the band in a circle is the hits CD I just mentioned. It's posted by jburrito1. This is the original version of the song. I also found this same song in an exaggerated stereo version by rwells47 that was really bad too.
@mickd01 I have to agree, regrettabbly, even though the song turned me on to my second childhood a couple of years ago. It just doesn't sound the same.
Don't get me wrong, I love that song! HOwever, I like the original a lot better and still do.
@mickd01 Hey if you like the original version of this tune search "The Baxter Wedge Conspiracy" Our cover of this tune should be the first vid that pops up check it out and let me know what you think
Not the original single release. I remember it well, was played a lot on AM radio, was my favorite song as a junior in HS. You can hear the original on the RCA release "All Time Greatest Hits" from '96. The original is much better.
I've uploaded "Two divided by love" from the same cd that this came from. Listen to the one I uploaded and the one that leftlane57 uploaded. You tell me how much of a difference there is.
@tjerwin1 I know I was reading some of the history of the band and I would be surprised that he owned any rights to the songs, unless he bought them..According to what I have read so far the band was put together by 2 writers and they looked around for a band to do their stuff.. Additionally Dusty Springfield and some others wrote material for the band....But you may know what you know, I am just now looking up info on them out of interest..
@thisux7x7 I did do some research myself and Rob along with Creed and Warren Entner did write a bunch of songs. But you know I was just trying to find what I had researched about what I told you and I can' t find that article. I know what I read and I'll be dammed if I can't find that article. Oh well. I did notice the list really didn't include any of their big hits. Too bad.
@tjerwin1 Yeah I get interested in researching something new everyday for some reason...I went to the band website and you can tell it has for the most part been a band that is owned by someoone other than the band as far as mechanically and publishing etc. It was a created band, but I'm sure since Rob was the driving force of talent that he had the most value anyway...
@thisux7x7 The same here about the interest and I completely agree that Rob was and always will be the driving force for this great group. The group I believe really did revolve around Rob after replacing the former lead singer. Since they really got the hits after Rob took over as lead singer. Not taking anything away from Warren.
@tjerwin1 Yes there is something special about certain voices and that's just a natural thing. I was always drawn to voices like Rob's. Other great singers like Burton Cummongs of Guess Who, and a few others just have this body and tone that is touching and memorable.
I guess all I have to say is if you don't like the version don't listen to it. I just thought I would share some of the music that I have so people just might enjoy it.
No, I don't think that is the orignal, either. That is what is so aggravating about buying these "cds' It is the original artist, but its not the cut that was used to make the record that was released, which means it wasn't the one that was considered the best "cut." but one that somebody had stuck off somewhere all these years, and now somebody decided to get some money for it. Rob Grill isn't even singing the words the same way.
Go listen to the version that is on the link provided by the person who calls themself
rwells47 on the list to the right. That sounds like the original, and it also has a link to buy it from amazon. Also, this song was already recorded in stereo, because by the time it was recorded everything was in stereo, although probably some of their mid sixties stuff probably could have been in mono.
Is this from one of the Live cd's? This is so great. This is how Rob sounds in person! I saw them for the first time in Michigan on the 6th of March!! This is terrific!!
I'm with you all the way on that note, America what it used to be.great music respectfully.

This sounds like that dominion junk.
It says new stereo recording by the origional artist with one or more of the origional members. This is just not good.
I still have the origional cut from 1971 with scratches.
It was played on the old long gone
KCLU AM-FM ROLLA MO.
The old transmitter is still there but it is now 103.1 Fm classic rock.
