The king literally just gave massive, unimaginable power to a random 10 year old he never even met before that day (however the time in Slumberland works), and it almost DESTROYS EVERYTHING. But apparently thats still better than putting a WOMAN in charge, amirite? Haha, I still love this movie, but WOW is that a plot hole...

Whether or not it was a guilty conscious on the back of his mind or another reason, he dreamed about that because of his character flaws. As far as "picking apart" movies, you don't necessarily need to find flaws. Find both the good and bad.

The question of the plot is really easy, I think. Nemo's in Slumberland, which has characters which are all based off of the circus people he saw in real life. He has a problem with responsibility, seen when he's trying to take the pie. So... the dream is teaching him about responsibility. He makes some terrible mistakes, and therefore, has to fix his mistakes, as one would have to in real life. He's growing morally. It just so happens to take place in insanity land... but thats cool

For an anime this has amazing animation and has the feel of Tiny Toons and Akira in the animation ain't i right folks? who thinks Camile looks like a young human version of Sally from Sonic The Hedgehog? This movie is like Terry Gilliam meets Hyao Miyazaki.
To paraphrase the King = "I'm handing our super weapon to a kid....now lets dance before you start questioning the moral ramifications of my rash decision!"

@TheZacula That's not the point. That's a metaphore of moral choices and sin, you know. If we always knew the consequences, we'd never do anything wrong. The nature of evil is such that it always disguises itself as something attractive, innocent or even good, so we must trust the rules even if we're not at that moment able to understand them. And from the story's point of view, if Nemo promised something he shouldn't break his word! He should trust the king after all this trust shown in him.
@Cationna True, this story is a moral metaphor. But yes, if we knew the consequences, we wouldn't do anything wrong. That's WHY if, I wanted someone to not do something, I would tell them the consequences. I personally think that it's a pretty good policy overall. I understand this is a moral story. I also was just saying that if (in real life) you set a rule, you should have an explanation as to the function and purpose of the rule so that it may be seen if the rule is just.
@TheZacula In that point I wholeheartedly agree with You: there's generally no better policy than to talk to people! And of course, when you're setting a rule for a child, you should always explain it and make sure that child's understood - that's basis of upbringing. But it's also true that the kids should be taught to trust us even if the explanations (/their comprehension) are postponed, because noone's able to foresee everything.
I only disagree with a literal interptretation of the movie :)

@DemonCadaver11 When you tell someone there's a door you never open, you should always say WHY. Even if you want the exact details hidden, at least say 'I put something there that, if you so much as peek at it, will ruin everything forever for you. Seriously, even cracking the door and sticking one eye in will cause chaos and doom. Even if someone very persuasive and friendly says it won't hurt, it will.'

@TheZacula That's not the point. That's a metaphore of moral choices and sin, you know. If we always knew the consequences, we'd never do anything wrong. The nature of evil is such that it always disguises itself as something attractive, innocent or even good, so we must trust the rules even if we're not at that moment able to understand them. And from the story's point of view, if Nemo promised something he shouldn't break his word! He should trust the king after all this trust shown in him.

@Cationna True, this story is a moral metaphor. But yes, if we knew the consequences, we wouldn't do anything wrong. That's WHY if, I wanted someone to not do something, I would tell them the consequences. I personally think that it's a pretty good policy overall. I understand this is a moral story. I also was just saying that if (in real life) you set a rule, you should have an explanation as to the function and purpose of the rule so that it may be seen if the rule is just.

@TheZacula In that point I wholeheartedly agree with You: there's generally no better policy than to talk to people! And of course, when you're setting a rule for a child, you should always explain it and make sure that child's understood - that's basis of upbringing. But it's also true that the kids should be taught to trust us even if the explanations (/their comprehension) are postponed, because noone's able to foresee everything.
I only disagree with a literal interptretation of the movie :)
