Why wouldn't Doyle raise at the end? Why call? He probably has the best hand, calling gets no more money, he can probably get a bit more out of Dwan as it could look like he's bluffing, and even if Dwan folds, he gets the same amount of money.
@Pinworm4 I think Doyle was figuring that Tom would not all a raise at the end unless he could beat Doyle (with a higher ace or full house). If Doyle raised at the end, Dwan would either fold (in which case Doyle makes no more money) or reraise him (represent a full house (maybe 9s full of aces) and put Doyle to a very difficult choice.
@Pinworm4 if he raises and dwan folds he gets no more money than if he calls, also if he raises and dwan calls the raise its possible dwan has a full house and doyle loses, therefore doyle can only make as much money by calling as raising with the best hand and lose money by raising with the worst hand.

the main problem with the re-raise is that you may have to fold to a big re-re-raise - not sure how deep they were but you never want to fold the best hand
@IMKINDASHY611 hate him all you want. hes a great player and the best "new school/online" poker player in the world. aggressive and smart. just old school is more than not better than new school because they are better at reading. the new school is what tom dwan is.
@420passleft Old school is generally worse at hand reading. They tend to put people on too few hands instead of a proper hand range or rely on tells to see if an opponent is weak/strong. New school focuses on accurate hand ranges as opposed to just instinctive weak/strong tells. That's why Doyle took the station mode check/call line against Dwan. He didn't know what Dwan had so he wanted to keep Dwan's range wide since he knew he'd often get called by better if he put in a raise at any street.
@Xienis Dwan would probably not have called......if Doyle had raised...not to mention the call was $50K...so Doyle was probably not really really sure that he had the best hand, he played it safe but still got $50K extra
@Xienis Raising is a bad play because the only time Dwan will call the raise is when he has Doyle beat. Actually he will call with his pair of kings once in a great while if he believed Doyle was bluffing. There was a similar hand on Poker After Dark about a year ago when Dwan called Doyle on the river with a weak hand when he thought Doyle was bluffing, but Doyle wasn't and won a huge pot.

But the reason he does it is for meta-game purposes. People often fold better hands to Dwan because they know they often have to face multiple barrels if they call him. At other times they can call with much worse for the same reason, only they're getting irritated by Dwan's aggression.

@TheCleetz Doyle has a point there- if he raises then the only hands that can possibly call him has him beat, so he is not getting much value by raising (can you think of a hand that can call a raise on the river which loses to Doyle's hand?). And Doyle is never bluffing there- so don't think Dwan will hero call.
Also AK, A9 and A4 are hands that can beat Doyle- with AK being the most likely given how the betting went (stretching the meaning of likely with Dwan)- but this isn't the point.

I think the reason he calls Tom's bet at the river is because he can't be sure, he can't be sure that TOM doesn't have the 4th ace, it happens even a better kicker or a full house. If He were to check raise tom, tom might pull his big "all in" and stone face, leaving Doyle with a hell, having to think about the call for a loooooooong time. So Instead of risking it he calls to pick up that pot or lose it.

not easily atleast not as easily vs Dwan because his range of hands is much more unpredictable. much more hands dwan could play somewhat the same as he did. Not only KK 44 or 99 also flush draws, K-x(like he had), K-4 K-9 but he could be beat, yes. The check/call on the river is a simple concept in poker, dont bet or raise if you only get called by better hands. And this theory holds up even if you ahead 99% of the time.
The reason for the check/call line of doyle is not because hes easily beaten.hes ahead here more often than not, no straights possible, no flush possible. So i think you wrong and 3 aces is the best hand most of the time on this essentially dry board, only 3 pocket pairs, A-4 and Ace(higher kicker) beats A-6. The reason is that if you bet or check raise dwan, and get called/raised or 3betted you are beat most of the time. it has nothing to do with trip aces not being strong on that board.

If Tom is so great, he should have folded with 2 A's already at the table, but this is exactly his strategy, playing & betting big w/absolutely no legit hand. to be honest if you watched poker after dark and seen these guys alot
you would know that Dwan was just playing as he always does.
The only hand that had Doyle beat was K K, 9 9, 4 4.

@TheCleetz Doyle has a point there- if he raises then the only hands that can possibly call him has him beat, so he is not getting much value by raising (can you think of a hand that can call a raise on the river which loses to Doyle's hand?). And Doyle is never bluffing there- so don't think Dwan will hero call.
Also AK, A9 and A4 are hands that can beat Doyle- with AK being the most likely given how the betting went (stretching the meaning of likely with Dwan)- but this isn't the point.

I think the reason he calls Tom's bet at the river is because he can't be sure, he can't be sure that TOM doesn't have the 4th ace, it happens even a better kicker or a full house. If He were to check raise tom, tom might pull his big "all in" and stone face, leaving Doyle with a hell, having to think about the call for a loooooooong time. So Instead of risking it he calls to pick up that pot or lose it.

no doyle kept the pot small because he can easily be beat by a boat. He check not to trap but not to lose his entire stack. You guys are idiots have no concept of poker haha. He has 3 aces has to be good. It rarely is on that kind of a board.

not easily atleast not as easily vs Dwan because his range of hands is much more unpredictable. much more hands dwan could play somewhat the same as he did. Not only KK 44 or 99 also flush draws, K-x(like he had), K-4 K-9 but he could be beat, yes. The check/call on the river is a simple concept in poker, dont bet or raise if you only get called by better hands. And this theory holds up even if you ahead 99% of the time.

The reason for the check/call line of doyle is not because hes easily beaten.hes ahead here more often than not, no straights possible, no flush possible. So i think you wrong and 3 aces is the best hand most of the time on this essentially dry board, only 3 pocket pairs, A-4 and Ace(higher kicker) beats A-6. The reason is that if you bet or check raise dwan, and get called/raised or 3betted you are beat most of the time. it has nothing to do with trip aces not being strong on that board.
