what kind of styrofoam do you use for this, and most comes with a clear plastic covering, it it ok to paint over this plastic or does it need to be removed? anyone have any ideas???
Love your background, I've made a few my self now for my waterdragons. FYI I got all my styrafoam from construction sites, it's free and theres lots of it ;)
idk what stores you have in your area but where did you get your foam caus ei check ben franklin and home depot and no luck, maybe lowes? idk respond ASAP please! got fishies waiting for new home, thanks =)!
Hey, I want to know that cements will absorb water, so i have seen people talking that after some time the background start crumble. so is it true? how much these backgrounds are stable? The particles of cement are hazard for fishes or not? if its mixing in the aquarium water then after a while will it create any poison for the fishes?

The cement chemicals do not pollute the water esp since I have no cement on this BG. People who do use cement rinse the aquarium out by filling and emptying about 10 times. I just the drylok straight over the styrofoam. The drylok paint which is for cement is safe for aquariums. Fish forums are great places to get info on doing DIY BG. I cannot answer your questions devil6330 as I am keeping African cichlids so that is what I have researched. Silicone GE 1 is used to attach to tank.
want some advice from you. i have 10 " redtail catfish, 12" pacu and two 13" walking catfishes. if i make one 3d aquarium background like you wont the fish eat that cement coated polystyrene? plz do reply
@person662641 I just bought a sheet of 4 x 8 styrafoam at Home Depot. Cost $13 concrete $10 epoxy paint $27, and silicone(use 100%) $4. Gonna start working it soon. But I am doing this because I cannot find a pre-made 3D background in my tank size. 48" by 30"
Part two is posted. Hemail good things come in small packages : )
I had to do some more tweaking for my Emporer 400's and repaint and have started to silicone netting to keep fish from back. So hopefully within next two weeks will silicone to tank and then my family will move out from the smell I am sure as it is pretty chilly here to have window open... : )
hey hi diy after doing so can how many time should i wash it before installing it into the aquarium

@BullockDesignConcept I'm guessin they will silicone it to the bottom and back of the tank so it stays in place

this project did not turn out well for me since Styrofoam floats in water and not sinks lol.
