Though without a shadow of a doubt, Hal Jordan's GL is my favorite comic character ever (40 + years of comics fandom), he actually was not the first GL...In 1940, Artist Mart Nodell and writer Bill Finger created the "Original" Green Lantern, Alan Scott, who's ring worked by magical principles as opposed to the science based ring of Hal when he was created by artist Gil Kane and writer John Broome in 1959.

Hal Jordan was the first and still the greatest GL, the Final Night Series is up there with Death of Superman, and Knightfall, so even though i think Kyle Rayner is a more modern cooler Green Lantern my money is still on Hal Jordan for the movie. with regards to the previous bullshit about racism, you ask any fan to name a Green Lantern Hal Jordan is the first that pops to mind, he was the original and longest running with some of the best storylines.
