They have a knack to create a misleading begging and turn what may be thought of as "the" particular direction, ending it with a "catch" either harmonic or word and then makin it NEW again.....a pleasure to have this artistic treasure.
The Fixx and Rush...pretty much the soundtrack to my teens. And beyond. Neil Peart had spoken of being a fan of Rupert Hine's production. Reach the Beach and Phantoms are absolute masterworks...sound like nothing else in all of rock or pop. Hipsters reference Captain Beefheart and his ilk like they're the only original musical artists in history, but I'm telling you, hear the early Fixx--there is nothing else like it on earth.
You're so right Numinall. This comment is spot-on and you are absolutely right about the originality of early Fixx. There's nothing else like anywhere. They were on the top of their game then and incomparable. I'll never get tired of listening to this masterpiece of music, will you?

I also thought Rupert's haircut was pretty beast. The point on the front. Could have been designed by Mike Score himself. A great synth player up there with Nick Rhodes, Matthew Hughes, Andrew Fletcher etc...
The song he shines most in is Camphor though. Such great work. and Deeper And Deeper.
although I particularly do not like the Beatles at all, I agree that they are the greatest band in the english world. But I still take the fixx hands down any time. The Fixx and Soccer are the best thing in the world
I'm stuck hopelessly in the 80's. Can't seem to get out of it really. Life has been better, but I really can't complain to much? Thanks for the replies friend. Check my faves to see what I've been listening to recently.N8
@bocasoy1 Hard to argue that. Okay not ever, but certainly in the top 10. No one tops the Beatles. Tears for Fears is another great under-rated group.
@n8tureboy dude i agree 1000%, Rupert is one of the most creative synth players ever imo. I cant think of anyone more original. Any his pointy hairdo rules! love it!
Love his keyboard brilliance. I also love Thomas Dolby's work as well. I've been a fan since 83' and have yet to see them live...UUGGHHH! There are certain draw backs to living in the sticks.
"....ask yourself why, before raising dead issues" BRILLIANT!!!!!!

I would add Talk Talk and Big Country to that mix as well. Then you'll have a smorgasbord of the finest music known to mankind.

The synth work in this song is other worldly.
Rupert deserves respect for the nuance that he adds to the Fixx'x music.
