Ok. How did Roseann Cash, Bruce Cockburn and Lou Reed get on the same stage. This is a live take isn't it. It's interesting that of all Cockburn's songs that Reed might know, he knew Cry of a Tiny Babe. But you know, a guy like Lou Reed was probably there at the Nativity.
@reaandrewredd This was from some sort of radio christmas special - available as Columbia Records Hour vol 1 (CD). Also has my favorite version of Lovers in a Dangerous Time and 2nd favorite version of Lord of the Starfields, alot of great tunes by other artists. This is the most joyful and fun one.
Surely having Lou Reed singing a Christ-song is near as great a miracle as the Incarnation - perhaps even a sign that the Christ-child still communicates today!
this still REALLY makes me laugh. You can almost hear Bruce and Rosanne cracking up behind Lou. It's like a dadaist take on an otherwise perfect song. Given that the original still exists, I'm glad for this addition to the box of weirdness that is Lou's collaborations ;)
Thanks so much for posting this! I've looked for this on YT for a while. I have been listening to it on the CD and it has spoken to me this season.
Lou Reed makes this complete & better, IMO. It is about the connection of Heaven to Earth People in Jesus' birth, and who has more Earthiness in his voice and song than Reed?
Bruce wrote anoter great song about spirituality & us humans. An unsanitized performance suits it perfectly. It is about Jesus and all the Lou's and Bruces of the world.
Sorry, I love this song when Bruce sings it all himself, but this version is just awful. Could you edit it and put in the version where Bruce sings it himself that's on Nothing but a Burning Light?

It's tough to listen to Lou. He's so out there.

This is a bit funky with Lou Reed sounding as if he is going to chuck his cookies-the original is a masterful work!
