Still Cryin Waitin Hopin for Bud's '58-Crickets to back his Apartment Tapes. C'mon J.I., Joe B., n Tommy do-it-to-it one time for the good ole times - 'til all times end.
What an amazing legacy he left for rock n roll, in just a short time he gave so much, what would we have had now if he stayed off that tour and that plane
The drums are tight and crisp. The standup bass, deep, driving and varied. And both were really dead on and that's were the whomf in this song is all centered. The crickets were tight. Must admit that Buddy's voice has massive strength and clarity too.
I Thought until now the ONLY 4 StereO tracks were recorded at Dick James new york and were Raining in my heart/ Moondreams/ It dont matter and one other
We can only wonder what would have happend. The Beatles come along in 1963 and Buddy arrives in UK in 1964 to collaborate with Lennon/McCartney/Holley. What magic would we have had? Alas wasnt to be .Rest in Peace guys. We were really robbed of your taelnts Buddy/Ritchie/Bopper. So sad to see that smashed up plane.
Capitolemiproducer is right. Holly's voice and acoustic guitar originate from the apartment tapes, and are clearly audible in the center between both my (full range electrostatic) monitors. Yet, the Fireballs and Norman Petty followed Holly's musical lead in detail including recording to high-quality AMPEX tape. Hence, save perhaps, a pronounced Fender Strat solo, the result is 100% Buddy Holly, un-coverable by other artists, sounding as if it's been recorded yesterday.
Thanks for posting this exellent stereo mix, so rare for the rest of his beautiful music, regretfully in few hours time it will be 52' anniversarry tragical accident and death of 3 for the time gratest music talents...
There is other take of this song by Holly here in Youtube, but this one is the best one. "Buddy Holly... I always remember you with tears in my eyes".
is it any wander that no one has given this the thumbs down. It's Buddy at his pure best, just a total waste of a young life to be killed so early in his music career.God rest Buddy, hope your still belting them out up there.A+++++
@scouse1967 *wonder, not wander. *you're, not your. To type it correctly: "Is it any wonder that no one has given this the thumb's down? It's Buddy at his pure best; just a total waste of his young life to be killed so early in his music career. God rest, Buddy; hope you're still belting them out up there." Great sentiments. I love Buddy too. But... were you homeschooled or something?
Released after Buddy was killed with backup instruments added later. I believe the only thing they had on the song (originally) was Buddy singing a demo along with only an acoustic guitar that he played. If I recall correctly, the tape was found in his apartment after his death. I also believe that Norman Petty released a version with back up vocals and band as well. Petty had rights to sing and royalties to song because of the bad contract that Holly and Cricketts signed with Petty.
There are at least three versions of this, depending on which Buddy Holly retrospective you purchase, and this one packs a bit more punch than the others. I like it. ^_^
I hope a movie is made about the Winter Dance Party! It must have been some live performance with those three great artists!
