Anybody else discover this through the latest mix on the Beady Eye website? I wish I'd heard it sooner. There's very few Dylan covers that are as good as the originals, and this one may even be better. Maybe.
i admit, this version is raw and a classic very nice and im going to keep on listening to it but i have to admit i like the elevators version the best. it was the first version i heard of baby blue. the elevators version is way more physicadelic and garage like. plus the vocals of erickson are tremendous and horriblely good making it a classic
a good version but can't really hold a candle to the 13th floor elevators version and Them(with Van Morrison) version....still, an interesting piece of rock history...
Hey! I might be wrong, but the blue eyed chick looks exactly like "Donna" on "That 70's Show"! Spitting image if it's not her, Forgive me for not remembering the actresses' real name. ..Serious babe material.
Just so no one is mislead : Garage bands were not noted for such mellow songs or covers. I do think this is a good version though and not necessarily so mellow but garageband66 songs are pretty mellow and many are not "real" garage bands. I am not saying garagegband66 is trying to pass them off as such (I have no idea about that). Just giving you younger folks a heads up.. ha. Please no nasty mails.

Agreed, does anyone know of anyother Garage rock covers of Dylan tunes. I know Them did a cover of this song and The Remains did "Like a Rolling Stone".
@LoveMarriott What a tuff sounding version! 60's garage punk rules!! And I dig the blue-eyed babe in the vid, smolderingly hot! I have been listening to this song for years but have not heard this particular version. This out-does the versions done by the Stones (They did do one, didn't they?) and Van Morrison and Them as well as 'ol Bobby Zimmerman himself. Are any of these guys from the Watch Band left? Golden nuggets of the past....
On the west coast they had a huge following in the 60's, getting exposure in the film "Riot on Sunset Strip" and their concerts were the stuff of legend. They'd often be billed with other bands and CWB would do those bands' songs, piss them off and it all was a game to CWB. Not very professional but expected from those that knew the band. Punk bands in the late 70's and early 80's re-discovered the band covering "Talking Bout Girls, Sweet Young Thing" and such. They kind of never left favor.
yea i just read that they were ffriend with radio djs and they would have the djs call them as soon as the got new records and hey would learn the song that night record it and have it on the radio by the morning
I agree. First time my mate played it to me if he didn't tell me it was the Chocolate Watchband I would have easily thought it was Mick and the Stones.
These guys were far better musicians as well. I am not taking anything away from the Stones persay, they just play what is supposed to be played. Ed Cobb (the producer for a lot of CWB's material) had a gold mine but no connections on the east coast. CWB never took off nationally.
Yeah, Koehlicool, you are absolutely right. This version by the Chocolate Watch Band is the best of them all. I think, Mr. Dylan is no Musician, he is a Suggestor for songs, which other bands are to perform. Abnd the Chocolate Boys did it!!!
Match and surpass Jagger! Watch Riot on Sunset Strip, he can sing on key, had better charisma, and check out the CWB website. Do a little research. I'm not saying you have to agree with me but as an all-around vocalist, performer of that era David Aguilar was head and shoulders above Jagger. Jagger is/was highly over-rated, just my opinion.
The thing about CWB was that they could do anybody's stuff better than the originals and then do their own like "Sweet Young Thing" and not miss a beat.
Back in those days, everyone took something from everybody because of the newness of it all. Whether or not David "copied" from Mick is irrelevant. Bottom line was CWB blew their competitors off the stage no matter who they were.
I recall in 64 when the Stones toured as an opening act for The Beach Boys in Alabama and the Stones did their very best to bury them. All it took was for Mike Love to walk out on stage and comment "That's all well and good but it's about time we all stood up for Alabama" then the Stones were burried and later the Stones begged to be dropped from the tour because they knew they'd been upstaged. Point is, is that Mick is just show, that's all he's ever been, anybody can do it.
This is a cool cover of a Dylan original.I just found another impressive version by Marianne Faithful.

The amount of bands covering Dylan just proves how massive his impact was in the 60s.

for sure. if he hadnt gone electric he may have quite easily killed rock and roll as we know it.
