Hey, I don't know how relevant this is but, on my 1977 MG Midget, my steering wheel ignition doesn't push in either, and I don't think its meant to.

Well they did change things quite a bit from year to year and month to month. Wouldn't suprise me

Quite likely, too. My '79 does push in, just as it should. Catches a little when going from lock to 'ignition on', however. Probably needs replacing.

I have a 76 and the lock doesn't push in either. I don't think it'e meant to on the later cars.
