  • The driver is Derek Bell. This was from 1983 (He was a factory Rothman's driver.)

Also, the data is incorrect. The car is a 956, fitted with a special "long tail" for the Circuit de la Sarthe. This allowed the cars to trap 248MPH on the Mulsanne Highway. Pronounced "MOOLAWN"

    3.5 miles in 40 seconds...

Notice how late Derek brakes from 248mph down to 70mph for the right turn...

  • this guy caN DRIVE

  • sounds like a ferrari enzo!

  • @0305robin It sounds nothing like an Enzo in any way at all.

  • This is Le mans right?

  • "(EDIT:It seems the car is actually a 956, the version of the car that race in europe before the evolved american version 962 was created to met safety regulations)"

    You mean devolved?

  • INTENSE.

  • This car is fucking godlike in performance.

  • 3.5 MILE long straight.... God I miss these days

  • abchaz01 zr1 are piece of..... Noting like Porsche the manufacturer that won the most race on history read it. Non Americans can't beat that you gringo.

  • Holy heck that is a LONG straight!

  • what amazes me about this vid , is the fact that this is only just 1 lap !!

it ran hard like that 24hrs straight !!

  • i fucking love the old le mans track, fuck the chicanes go over 200mph

  • Fucksticks thats fast

  • Okay, where does one buy a sling that is required to carry around balls big enough to drive at those speeds

  • A ZR1 could beat that

    *Ironie off

  • more about the 962 (and 956).....w.w.w. dauer962.de

  • All I can say is, freaking awesome, WOW.

  • dahora...

  • mamma che lungo quel rettilineo!!!

è proprio così che me lo ricordavo: che non finisce mai!!!!

  • The timing of this lap is considerable considering he started from a pit stop. Great car, great driver. The glory days of Le Mans 24 Hour and group c.

  • Is this video sped up, or is that car really moving that fast?

  • the 962 is about 400kmh fast right ? hehe buggati killer ^^

  • pull up...pull up!!!

  • This is a Porsche 917!

    Not a 956!!!!

    Check the 'dash'...

  • @FrankypankyV8 it's a 956, you can hear the popoff valve noise !!!

  • @FrankypankyV8 it's a 956 and the driver is Derek Bell

  • How fast? 380km/h?? Seems pretty fast!!

  • It is a 962 and the guy is an american driving it. Not at liberty to say who.

  • @porchfly80 Derek Bell, also drove a Viper in ALMS years ago.

  • too bad mine are only made of brass lol! nice vid

  • Balls of Steel !!!!

  • At 0:40: taking your hand off the wheel, you gotta have nuts at that speed!

  • NUTS!!!! and the car is fucking gorgeous!

  • i would have shit my pants if i was in there

  • sick sick and sick!

  • Incredible sound i wish they can do a dvd in car jag xjr12 and sauber mercedez c9 in 1989

  • or the toyota 88C-V or the old mazda 787B, that would be rediculous to hear the 4 rotor screamubg behind you

  • This is from "In Car 956" which just came out on DVD. Highly recommended. It shows Lemans and several other great historical tracks around Europe. If I remember correctly from my VHS copy from years ago, Derek Bell said the 956's reach 246mph on the Mulsanne straight. High caliber #&^$!!

  • The max speed is over 400 km/h in lemans

  • used to be... but the straight is now divided

  • are you fucking kidding? they're completely differnet. so much in fact that i would never have thought of even putting those two in a sentence that didn't include "the best tracks in the world"...

  • this guy has driven my dads car no joke =]

  • what his smart car!!!! lol

  • i wish group b and c still were in the racing world.. these series is racing to the max!

  • godaamn that sounds amazing. reminds me of gran turismo though lol

  • If you compare this footage with Derek Bells 1983 Le Man lap in his dvd In Car 956 they are idetical.

That puff of dirt and dust from the car infront on the apex of the Muslanne Straight is identical.

The 962 may sound like its cousin the 956 but this is definately a 956 being driven hard by 5 times Le Man winner Mr Bell.

  • 956, 962.. quite amazing power...

  • Wonderful video! Thanks for posting.

  • no this is not Richard Lloyd in this car, he raced for another team

  • Richard Lloyd Racing, 1984

the car was driven by Richard Lloyd

  • I have an old VHS I bought years ago called the sports car experience with all kinds of this 956 on board stuff..nice add to YT

  • Old F6 2.9L twin turbo: 750hp and 1000kgs.....

  • thats crazy, i go kart race and the steering wheel for this car is as big a the one in my go kart and he's piloting somthing that weighs at least 1000 more punds than a go kart. that turbo blowoff valve sounds amazing.WOW

  • Those idiots gotta drive like that @230mph for 9 hrs and no light! Insane!

  • going down the straight at 2:07 is the worse on Gran Turismo 4. everytime i spin off.

  • This is Porsche 956, not 962. Year is probably 1983.

  • ok he was definitely going way faster than 217mph down the Mulsanne, it had to be at least 225mph, PROBABLY 230.

  • Yes thats Le Mans. He was going about 230 MPH down that back straight.

  • Wow that was absolutely astonishing too watch, awesome speed and wonderful handling, great car the 962 would pay thousands to have a go at that.

  • The most glorious straight in circuit racing, amazing. The straight had be be shortened with chicanes because the cars were simply too fast. Today's car are considerably slower on top end and have less HP than the '80s turbo BRUTES!

  • porsche there is no substitute !

  • Figures Porsche still using that Boxer engine. Flat 6

  • i believe this is in the mid80s..correct me if im wrong..eveywhere i hear about fast cars goin for the highest speed trophy(F1,veyron, koenigseg) they all complain bout the tires not being able to take the speeds..i mean damn..we can build aircraft tires that last 50+landings..and those cars at lemans were doin 400kph and race turns for laps on end..and the issue now after 20+yrs is still tire growth and blisters?cmooon..i wonder how that right turn kink in the straight looks at night.on rain

  • It's in 85 or 86, the problem with F1 tyres, it's that they grip but they also assume the suspension, they are thin and very smooth on the side, it's hard to build, problem with others cars is that they must be road tyres, on the 956/962, they didn't care about that.

Now this straight line called "les Hunaudières" has been cut with a chicane, it was too dangerous, a thing inteesting about this car is that there was a street legal one sold by Dauer: 750cv and 1050Kgs...no comment...

  • yeah they wanted over a million for it. A 962 goes 4 half that.

  • These 956 vids with Derek Bell are some of my favorites! Le Mans is a great track...

  • that is a DAMN long straight! fuck me i want ago on that track. he musta been pullin 240 mph odd

  • is a 956 not 962...

  • Hell yes!!!! flat six twin turbo that was a nice move under braking there at the end.

  • holy shit dats fast!!!!

  • listen to those twin turbos...

  • tht guy has some big cohones

  • Its actually a 956 driven by derek bell, its from a vid/dvd called onboard 95s and it includes a few excellent circuits! well worth a watch!

  • I think it's actually a 962. The car is currently for sale and I found this clip on the site.

  • The 956 version was the original and European spec. Porsche created the 962 to race in IMSA in the US. It was redesigned to put the driver's legs behind the front axle. So, I imagine this is a 956 unless LeMans opened up racing to both specifications. Don't know for sure.

  • as for Derek Bell being the driver, I'm not sure. In the history of the car their is no mention of this, but I'll ask him next time I see him.

  • is that the de la sarthe circuit??

i can recognise the long straight from anywhere

u can race on this track on gran turismo 4

  • must be wonderfull to drive like this at night :D

  • Anybody know who was driving?

  • and a cow jumps out into the road......NOW!

  • Balls of steel!

  • Yes this is a 956, the footage is from "In Car 956" video.

  • Original video said it´s a 962, didn´t noticed it´s a 956.Thanks for posting!

  • i thought they didn't allow porn on youtube.... that was f'n awesome... thanks

  • Nice shots of when Le Mans used to have an awesome back straight (Before it was broken up with a couple of chicanes.)
