I think he meant that the experience of a roman seeing that is like entering a "holocaust" museum. Even if you didn't know it was a holocaust museum, you know immediately upon entering cause the images are still very vivid within us eve though it happened so long ago. So a roman seeing that image would immediately know what Leone is referencing.
