@Atheist18505 First of all, if the majority of donations for Haiti came from private organizations, please provide a source. I find that hard to believe. I went to Haiti with my church in the relief effort, and from personal experience I can tell you the vast majority of people there were churches, missionaries, and religious organizations. As for people murdered in the past, that's exactly that - THE PAST! What is religion doing today? By the way, I'm agnostic. Keep your hissy fits to yourself.
@dkthg Brilliant. Now you have two undefined terms. Are you claiming there isn't such a thing as evil? There never seems to be, until it happens to you. Then somehow it seems to "exist", or people think something isn't "fair" ( as if there is a standard as to how things SHOULD be. Or people cry out for JUSTICE ( again, as if there is some way things OUGHT to be). Never could figure that one out.
@paintur68 He's rather unintelligent. If you ever saw RELIGIOUS, he was SO factually incorrect on SO many things, especially about the Horus-Jesus Connection. The problem is that apparently none of his audience members were any brighter, and no one seemed to CATCH his many mistakes... Egyptology anyone?
I am tired of being called evil, abomination and other horrific names because of religion. It is okay for religious to put down others with their so called beliefs. yet cry like babies when their beliefs are questioned and made fun of. waaaaaa, waaaaaaa, is your faith that weak to cry when someone makes fun of it.
religions are like big gangs which hate each other,if there was no religion there would be less problems thats 4 sure.but you cannot change the attitude of some people whose generations have taught them that their god/religion is everything and all the rest is wrong.now it's too late, the world is fucked up
Hey Bill and all other "rationalists", you are all invited to come and stay here in Scandinavia, Northern Europe. We welcome and embrace smart and reasonable people; there is never too many of us.
Here is a little quote that might get some people thinking "Give a man a fish and he can eat for a day. Teach a man to fish he can eat for a lifetime, Give a man religion and he will die praying for a fish!!!!!!"
I am so tired of the religion-bashing, the petty stabs and insults, the derogatory remarks on the intelligence of the religious, the satirical air of superiority Atheists/Agnostics have, and degrading names like "Space Daddy".
It is all nonsense. It is all intolerance and bigotry that mirrors exactly the behavior of the most fanatical religious zealots. Forgive me for going off, but I truly cannot stomach this bitter, abusive attitude towards religious people anymore. It's toxic.
@ColibriAnna08 door opens both ways buddy. Religious people hate on gays, hate on science, hate on free thinking, and so on.... this century people are getting fed up of having to put up with crazed religious people making OUR decisions for OUR country. so look in the mirror and ask yourself did God create man or did man create God?
@TheJuggernaut88 If every single religious person in the world was crazy and made decision for your country based on their religious beliefs, then yes you would be justified in everything you say. However, they do not. To condemn and abuse every religious person for the actions of other religious people is reverse discrimination. It's no less ignorant and close-minded than reverse racism. The mentality that you have a right to be intolerant because some were intolerant to you is poisonous.
@ColibriAnna08 Religious people have beliefs that are not only unproven, but some of them are crazy. And some of them are divisive. Religious belief is the reason gays can't get married. Religious belief is the reason why stem cell research is being held back. Religious beliefs can separate families and have caused, and still do cause wars. Religious beliefs obviously cause problems and they have very few, if any, redeeming qualities.
@ninjajesus81 As long as they don't impose them on you, a person's religious beliefs - no matter how crazy or false - are none of your damn business, and it's not your given right to abuse and bully anyone for it. Of course, religious beliefs are responsible for problems, but they are also responsible for good including institutions like St. Jude and the Salvation Army. Religion like most things is not inherently bad OR good. The redeeming qualities are there, but your vendetta blinds you.
@ColibriAnna08 Their beliefs are none of my business, but when they talk to me about them, then I'm going to talk back about my beliefs. I don't abuse anyone.
Religious beliefs lead to far more destruction than good.
@ninjajesus81 Maher's conduct in the video was abusive, and no one was talking to him about their beliefs. He was on the offense - not the defense. If religious beliefs lead to far more destruction than good, then prove it. 85% of charities are religious. Whenever there is a natural disaster like in Haiti, the greatest relief comes from religious organizations and nations. If there is more evil done by religion that cancels that out, then prove it. You can't. You're just blind.
@ColibriAnna08 3000 people died on 9/11 because of religion. Do you think a religious based charity cancels that out?
Thousands of people die every year in the middle east, and you cite a religious charity as a counter-example, and call it a wash. That's absurd.
And your idea that the greatest relief comes from religious organizations and "nations" (I don't know how you can call a nation religious), is completely baseless. That's a lie that religious people keep repeating.
@ninjajesus81 Right on man, what about the countless lives that could be saved, by genomic, and stem cell research? Cancer's, genetic disorders, dieases, and even world hunger(through cloning) could potentially all be wiped out, but nope religious cock sucker's have no fucking idea about the implications of such usage, but nope do not fuck with gods divine works such MS, MD, Cancer and other genetic disorders. Hopefully in a few generations religion will die out.
@Atheist18505 Yeah, they're all against stem cell research. But watch their tune change when they get a spinal cord injury. Instant 180 degree change in opinion.
It's easy to be against something that will help OTHER people. Who cares about OTHER people? They're not me, so why should I care about someone who isn't me?
That's their attitude.
They talk about evil in the world. Well guess what, they're it.
@ninjajesus81 We are not against stem cell research. We are against human farming. We do not like the idea of growing a human and killing it off . However with Adult stem cells ( placental tissue) we have no issue with this at all. No life is destroyed in the process, there is great potential, and the results so far have been much better with the adult stem cells anyway. So I do not see what the problem is.
@Apologist4Christ973 Human farming? A blastocyst is made up of about 150 undifferentiated stem cells. You kill a million times that many cells every time you take a shower.
To protest the experimentation on a microscopic ball of cells, and pretending to care about it like you would a human being, is just an act.
And I don't think adult stem cells have produced much better results. I think that's another lie by creationists, who don't mind telling lies when it's convenient.
@ninjajesus81 Now it's one thing to say that you disagree with me. It's another thing to call me a liar. This is one thing I HATE about debating atheists. Instead of trying to make POINTS ( which I rather enjoy discussing), once an atheist is backed into a wall , they respond with something like "your a liar and your mom is a whore!". that's pretty desperate if you ask me. The cells you kill when you take a shower do not have human potential first off.
@Apologist4Christ973 You said adult stem cells have a higher potential than stem cells from a blastocyst. I said I think that's a lie creationists tell. You may be lying or you may have been lied to. Either way, if it's not true, then it's a lie. And I think it's not true.
The cells you kill when you take a shower DO have human potential. We have the technology to use those cells to create a life. Scientists have used mouse skin cells to create mice.
@ninjajesus81 Well yes, in a laboratory experiment, using human intelligence ( yes, I said that bad word, intelligence), and DNA... But that's not a process of nature, thats pure intelligent ( again) manipulation of the natural world.
@Apologist4Christ973 You said blastocysts have human potential. Well I provided you with an example of how skin cells also have human potential. Now you're moving the goalposts and saying "well, not naturally". Ok, well, why does it matter if the human potential is natural or not? If a human is born unnaturally, is it not a human? What's the difference? Can you not talk to that human? Does he not have a personality? Does he not bleed? Does he not have emotions?
@ninjajesus81 I think any time you reduce humanity down to nothing more than some mathematical equation, nothing more... you are just LOOKING for problems.....
@Apologist4Christ973 What mathematical equation am I reducing humanity down to? And what problems do I encounter?
I don't care what your opinion is on the truth, all I care about is the truth. If you find the truth unsettling, that's just too bad. The universe does not owe you a comforting existence.
I believe humans are just the result of chemistry and nature. Yet, I still feel EXACTLY the same way I do towards humans as I did when I believed God created us.
@ninjajesus81 That humanity does not have an eternal soul. if this holds true, what is the differnce between man and animal. Nothing. At the sub atomic level what is the difference between a man and a rock.. Nothing. What is the diference, to the Universe whether you are alive or dead? Nothing. What is the difference to GOD if you have value, or your eternal well being... EVERYTHING. I agree the Universe owes us nothing. But every day we breathe is a gift from God.
@Apologist4Christ973 You're right, there's no difference between our atoms and a rock's atoms, there's no difference between us and animals (hence why we can test medicine on animals before we use it), and the universe doesn't care whether you're alive or dead.
But let me ask you something; why does any of that really matter? How do those facts change anything about us? We're still the same humans we were before we found out we evolved.
@ninjajesus81 I wasn't talking only about blastocyst. I was talking about the general direction this can take us in. Its not a human, its a cell. It's not a human its a CLONE. it's not a human it's a JEW or a POLE ( see WW2). We are halfway there. YOU are an ape. YOU are a cosmic accident. YOU do not have a soul. YOU are nothing but matter ( parts/molecules)... Once we have convinced ourselves that to be HUMAN means NOTHING... It's checkmate for all of us dude.
@Apologist4Christ973 You're using the slippery slope fallacy. You're saying that first we're not considering a microscopic group of 150 cells a human, and the next thing you know, we're not considering full grown humans human. Well, you have no evidence that one will lead to the other. Humans (Well, most humans) are smart enough to recognize a distinction between a human being and a uniform, microscopic collection of cells.
@Apologist4Christ973 Humans ARE apes. I don't think we're a cosmic accident, I think life is a cosmic inevitability. There is no evidence for souls, and the evidence against them is pretty good, so yes, we probably don't have one. We are nothing but matter, there's no evidence that we're not any different from any other animal in that regard. But all of these facts doesn't lead to believing that being human means nothing. I think we're still pretty amazing (most of us).
@ninjajesus81 I would disagree with the "we have no evidence for souls". There is some strange stuff popping up, not only in Dr, witnessed NDE, and OBE's, but also Remote viewing ( which has been used by both the American and Former Soviet militaries for YEARS, and in the area of quantum physics, and the nature of consciousness... However these findings would KILL materialism, if they turn out to be true...
@ninjajesus81 And from what I am reading, Adult stem cells are FAR ahead of their embryonic counterparts. The embryonics are too unstable and difficult to control. The adult stem cells, seem more stable, can be taken from placenta, or even bone marrow. Let me ask, if the ADULT CELLS are just as effective and do the JOB, why are you so INCESSANT on using the EMBRYONIC CELLS, if the other work just as well ( apparently better)???
@Apologist4Christ973 I don't know that adult stem cells ARE just as effective at doing the job. If they were, why wouldn't scientists use them over embryonic stem cells? Well, I just found out why, and it confirmed my suspicion that creationists are just lying about it.
Adult stem cells have a significantly higher rate of apoptosis (programmed cell death).
They have higher rates of aging and significantly lower rates of growth.
@ninjajesus81 It wasn't CREATIONISTS that I got the information from. It was medical journals and Newspaper articles of real scientific research.... Most Creationism is what is known as FORENSIC , or speculative science based philosophy ( as is Hydrogen to Human evolution). What we are dealing with here is pure OPERATIONAL science, controlled LAB WORK and repeatable, testable data.
@Apologist4Christ973 And I highly doubt you got any of your information on adult stem cells from medical journals or anything that doesn't have an obvious goal of killing off embryonic stem cell research.
Creationism is not a science at all. What are you talking about? As is hydrogen to human evolution? What? That last part of your post just went off on a nonsensical tangent.
@ninjajesus81 You also talk about EVIL in the world. Scientifically speaking, how do you DEFINE evil in materialistic terms? How do you quantify it in a lab. Evil is a non-scientific term. What is WRONG with evil anyway, and from an atheist standpoint, how would you PERSONALLY define EVIL. How would you define GOOD? Just a few thoughts you can intellectually munch on.....
@Apologist4Christ973 My utopia would be a place where happiness is maximized for the most people possible. "Good" works in the direction of that utopia, "bad" works against it.
Can you tell me anything wrong with my ideal utopia?
If not, then you would have to agree that following the Bible doesn't work towards that goal.
@ninjajesus81 Your point is well said. Nothing per se is WRONG with it so much. I agree I too want people to be happy. And interestingly enough the Bible VERY MUCH works towards that goal when you consider the teachings of Christ. Respect and love your neighbor. ( that promotes his well being). respect his property and do not steal it. Do not exploit him OR her. Humans are not for use one own "self gratification", they have value and worth.
@Apologist4Christ973 The Bible works towards that goal? Why do Christians always call it "the Bible", but then they disregard the largest part of the Bible; the old testament? The old testament, and I could argue the new testament as well, doesn't work towards the goal of maximum happiness. Killing people for a multitude of trivial "sins", is ridiculous, and creates a horrible society.
@ninjajesus81 However the happiness of the MOST people is not neccessarily the happiness for EVERYBODY ( there is the concept of individualism, I am a firm believer in that). However, I am not sure the only goal in living is "being happy". We all want that, but I think being RIGHTEOUS and being PRODUCTIVE take precedent over " I'm happy". You are born. You are happy. Then you die as if it never even mattered that you were born. I don't buy it for a second.
@Apologist4Christ973 Being righteous and productive is more important than being happy? To you maybe, and if that's what makes you happy, then do it. But not everyone cares about that, and to each his own. For you to say they lived and never mattered is just your opinion. I never said everyone had to live the same way for people to be happy.
@Atheist18505 We are all aware of the possible advances into research done on stem cells. We are also aware ( as seems to be ignored by your side) of the implications of the devaluing of human life itself, and of human farming. We are not against stem cell research with adult stem cells ( which from what I understand seem to be more effective). That's basically just placental tissue. However to farm babies and kill them off doesn't seem very ethical to me.
Religion will never die off. The Caesars tortured us on crosses and murdered our families. We are shot every day in the head in the Sudan. The Soviets murdered us by the Millions to "purge the world of religion".Interesting that in China, Africa, Russia, and all around the Globe where religion has been PERSECUTED, by FORCE in order to "purge" us, the Religion now THRIVES.It is declining in the US, where REALITY has been replaced by ENTERTAINMENT,and skewed what SHOULD be important.
So kill as many humans off as you like. But the RELIGION will not only LIVE it will GROW. By default GOD cannot die no matter how angry you get about him. Why is it that the worship of CHRIST, has outlived the Pharaohs, the Caesars, The Humanists of the French Revolution, The Communist Dictators. They are all DEAD. No one cares. Yet here we all are... talking about GOD. hmmmmm
@ColibriAnna08 Bigotry? That's an insane reach, but look who said it. You don't like being talked to as a child, then stop acting like one......you and your imaginery friend.
How many of you reading this swallow whatever medications your doctor gives you without asking a single question about what's in it? You see, blind, stupid faith in science can destroy your body, which we know exists. Blind, stupid faith in religion on the other hand can only destroy your soul, which we DON'T know exists. As atheists, we should all ask ourselves if it is really a sane endeavor to try and tear down things that don't even exist (God etc) Let's try to deal with real problems.
@sokratesz but thats not even my point. My point is that no "science" proves a god-less/natural creation. Thus saying "it will later when we learn more and it advances" means nothing because there is an equal chance it will prove the existance of God and that He created the universe.
No it doesn't. Nothing that science has uncovered so far points to the existence of a creator and the further we're expanding our own knowledge, the less 'room' there is to 'hide' said creator.
@sokratesz Where to begin? You keep "moving the goal posts" anyway but here it goes: NO science proves a god-less/natural creation and NO science proves a creation by God (many gods, ect.). However, what science tells us can be interpreted whatever way you like, because no science gives us a definitive answer. Some evidence points one way, some points the other.
@sokratesz For example, for me the fact that the universe is believed to be expanding is a evidence of God because many verses of the Bible (for example Isaiah 40:22 and Job 26:7) say, "God stretched out the heavens" (or something similar). But I'm sure you see that a different way, based on your worldview that there is no god(s), just as mine is based on my belief in a God.
My worldvied does not include god because there is no evidence for him, not very much space left for him to 'hide'. Science rarely operates based on absolutes, and neither do I.
The fatal flaw whenever you bring up (your!) god is that it's only your god. A million different people that believe will give a different explanation of 'their' god, which means that god is nothing but man-made.
@sokratesz Once again, your worldview does not include a god because when you see things, you INTERPRET them as not being evidence of a god. But when I see them, I INTERPRET them as evidence for God. No one knows enough to definitely say there is no evidence for God or there is no evidence for a natural/god-less creation. But note this, science IS facts, not how we interpret those facts (that IS religion-our set of beliefs).
@66GreenBaron66 Evidence is evidence and we can logically conclude whether it should be considered evidence.
If I pray to god for tails when I flip a coin, if it lands on tails, is that proof that god not only exists, but he answers prayers? Some people may interpret it that way. But I can give you many reasons why that is illogical, and should not be considered evidence for a god. Just because they interpret that as evidence for god, doesn't mean it is.
@sokratesz 6. Billions (not millions) have a different explanation of God beacuse they INTERPRET God in different ways-He is NOT a different god for each person. In fact, that means billions of people see many things they interpret as evidence of God.
@sokratesz Are you kidding (or a typical atheist that doesnt know why they dont believe in God)? Evolution has many flaws an has suffered many drastic changes, not to mention Darwin predicted a missing link would be found within decades...still waiting for one.
@sokratesz If you are an evolutionist teacher, beware of Jesus' words: "And if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around his neck" (Mark 9:42). Being an evolutionist teacher doesn't necessarily mean you are causing kids to turn away from God, but just be warned so you don't cross this line. Combine this with Pascal's wager and you could possibly be in serious trouble if God exists.
@sokratesz Flaws in evolution abound, but I will name a few basic ones that you probably have a seemingly good answer to (but it actually isn't an answer) in order to cover your tail. There is no evidence whatsoever that matter, physical process, or material phenomenon can give rise to imformation (such as DNA).
Look up the Urey and Miller experiment. There's also entire books dedicated to how seeming disorganisation in nature can give rise to patterns and apparent 'design'.
@sokratesz Problems with god-less creation: Evolutionists claim that a small dot contained all the matter and energy in the universe and spun around and around until it exploded. According to the Law of the Conservation of Angular Momentum, everything in the universe should be spinning in the same direction, that which the dot spun in. However, many moons, planets, and even galaxies spin in clockwise direction while many others spin in the counterclockwise direction.
I know the website that you copied the angular momentum line from, and it's retarded beyond belief and yells 'I DO NOT UNDERSTAND RUDIMENTARY PHYSICS' with every line.
@sokratesz 1. How is my angular momentum line "retarded"? Care to explain? 2. "There's also entire books dedicated to how seeming disorganisation in nature can give rise to patterns and apparent 'design'"...or there is common sense which says apparent design=design. 3. What website do you think I copied it from (it's not from a creationist website (i.e. drdino or answersingenesis) that I know of-at least thats not where I got it)?
@sokratesz 1st law of thermodynamics says that the total energy in the universe, or in any isolated part of it, remains constant. In other words, energy is not now being created or destroyed; it simply changes form. A corollary of the first law is that natural processes cannot create energy. Therefore, energy must have been created in the past by some agency or power outside and independent of the natural universe.
Your first phrase is mostly right, your third fairly decent, but your third phrase is bollocks. How would such a being exist, given that there is no 'space' outside the universe? You mentioned before that it is expanding, well, you should also be aware that it is not expanding 'into' any empty space.
@sokratesz 4. God is beyond the universe, as He is beyond all matter, space, and time (as He created them). Speaking of "space", what was there before the little dot of all matter and energy (how'd that even get there or form?) before the Big Bang (i.e. what was the "nothingness" it was surrounded by)?
And can someone tell me, why do religious people find the line 'something cannot come from nothing' convincing enough to dismiss the big bang theory and evolution, but somehow do not apply it to their own god?
@JohanTW exactly, so let's change the opinion ("theory") that everything was randomly created out of nothing that science constantly finds new flaws with and change it to, oh say, God created the universe.
And guess what Jesus, worked on the Sabbath. And he explained to the Pharisees who said the same thing, that God gave us the Mosaic law to guide that society, and that they missed the point of God giving us the law by focusing too much on what it strictly says (which is exactly what you're doing).
Bill Maher is right by being controversial got high rates. I do not know how if he says that 60% of americans are stupid. He spits all over the place to get high rates. I can not say if he sarcastic, evil or a nut can you ?
@sokratesz if science says we don't know yet but will later, how come the more we learn, the more evolution and other evolutionist theories have to be changed? The opposite of your theory is true. And what sound's better? You forgot the part where you say everything randomly came from absolutely nothing and life randomly occured out of non-life.
@66GreenBaron66 Because that is how science works, you look for facts and draw conclusions from them but as we learn more and more and our ways of research become more refined, we find out new things that go against the old ideas and so we change what we believed before. We believed that the earth was flat for a long time until we found out it was round. This is of course quite the opposite from religious people who draw conclusions from their holy books and then look for facts to support it.
@JohanTW exactly, with science we find out new things that go against old ones and change what we believe. Hence, the more we learn, the more we realize that any "science" about the Creation is wrong and stupid. And I would rather draw conclusions from an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, eternal God than from fallible man, wouldn't you?
@66GreenBaron66 Sure, but thing is that this god hasn't told us a whole lot ;) IF the bible is really the word of god then we are in trouble because according to the bible we should be stoned to death for working on the sabbath and it also says that the entire world was flooded at one point etc I don't think this is divine at all. Also, what's wrong with changing opinion, it's natural. You don't know anything about something but guess and form an opinion - You learn more and form a new opinion.
Science progresses and our understanding of the world can change. Evolution however has not been changed in any major way for quite some time now, there are however a lot of details to refine. Same thing with Newtonian physics. They weren't wrong, just incomplete, so Einstein thought of something better that might still be improved upon.
"An evil exists that threatens every man, woman and child of this great nation. We must take steps to ensure our domestic security and protect our homeland" - Adolf Hitler
"An evil exists that threatens every man, woman and child of this great nation. We must take steps to ensure our domestic security and protect our homeland" - George W. Bush
Evil incarnate, stood before the world with all their eyes to see and ears to hear, yet they saw and heard nothing. baa baa
You're right, science isn't atheism. Science is proven facts, neither atheism nor any other religion part of science. Therefore, its rediculous to say creation is the issue of religion vs science, because its not. There is no scientific facts about creation, only RELIGIOUS theories (either atheist or theist).
@kilroy055 Like I said before, let's go back to the beginning. Where did hydrogen and the elements that make up the stars come from? And then where did that come from? And that? And before that? At the beginning, you believe something came from absolutely nothing. You call that science? Atheism is a religion. Religion is a set of beliefs, and by definition, atheism is the belief their is no god(s).
We are all born atheists. It isn't until man engraved a God into our brains that made people believe in the sky daddy. God is not real. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Just read the bible and look for logic. There isn't any. God is not real and its not that hard to believe. Just start thinking and you'll figure it out and come to terms with it like I did.
@jennyumm89 I feel like I only get stupid religious replies when I post comments like this one so I'll give you a "You go girl!" and make your day :P Religion is the dumbest and most violent people today saying that the smartest people on earth 2000 years ago came up with all the answers to life's questions and that the smartest people on earth today are absolutely wrong when they say we can't know.
@kilroy055 Where did this "rocky matter" come from? Come on buddy, trace it back all the way to the point where something/everything "appears" out of nothing. And I guess you missed my last comment, because I pretty clearly explained why atheism is in fact a religion.
There are so many things in this world we should be objecting to: Israel's genocide of the Palestinians, Obomba's mass murder in the wars he's waging all over the world, the destruction of America's economy by corporate greed, and of course world hunger, which will end the day we stop spending trillions of dollars on war.
But religion -- beautiful religion -- why waste your precious time and energy fighting against that?
We must choose our battles carefully. Choose love! It's worth living for.
It is so funny how retarded and hypocritical atheists are Bill Bullshit Maher for example agrees with theories of atheism But he wont agree to the SCIENTIFIC FACT THAT PROVES 911'S OFFICIAL ACCOUNT DOESNT ADD UP. Atheists cant just undermine one side of science and not the other MAKE SENSE !!!!!! Scientific like the WTC falling at a speed which is against the law of physics - Cant happen without a CONTROL of some sort Bill Bullshit needs to research the true science
@audi692 LMFAO are you serious? How the hell could anyone make a building the size of the World Trade Center fall at the specific speed they wanted with millions of people watching and not have them notice? And why in Dawkins' name would they want to? (lol see what I did there). Either you're bat shit crazy or you were hit on the head recently.
Mahr's audience is the best trained on TV. always clapping and hooting after every point, silent during the next set up. I have tried to keep up with them at home but it is just impossible.
My brothers rave minimum test God says in the Koran (I created the jinn and mankind except to worship what I want them livelihood and I want to feed that God is the Provider with a force strong is for those who do wrong, sins such as the sins of their friends do not hurry woe to the unbelievers of their day which they are promised )
@ninjajesus81 And what you misunderstood is that I was saying basing your atheism on a god-less creation that can't be scientifically proven is just as much a belief as believing in God's creation.
@66GreenBaron66 It can't be scientifically proven that Pokemon don't exist, that doesn't mean the belief in Pokemon is on equal ground to a non-belief in Pokemon.
@ninjajesus81 no they didn't. The Greeks thought Atlas supported it on his back for a while, and the Hindus believed a turtle or elephants supported the Earth. Theres two examples. As for the Bible it says it in many places, such as in the book of Luke, when Jesus described the day of His return. In Luke 17:31, Jesus said, "In that day", then in Luke 17:34, "In that night". This is an allusion to light on one side of the globe and darkness on the other simultaneously.
@66GreenBaron66 People knew the Earth was a sphere when the Bible was written. They were even calculating its circumference.
This idea that Columbus proved the Earth wasn't flat is the biggest lie ever, and I guess that's what you believe.
"In that day" and "in that night" does not imply knowledge that the sun is on the opposite side of the globe. That proves that he knows the difference between light and dark. If it's light, it's day, if it's dark, it's night.
@ninjajesus81 You honestly think that in pre-1000 BC (when Job was written) they were calculating the circumference of the Earth? And yes, just about everyone knows Columbus didn't discover that the Earth was sphere. And Luke 17 is about an instantaneous event, so if something is instantly happening all over the Earth, it happens on one side which is dark, and one that is light.
@66GreenBaron66 Where are you getting your numbers? Wikipedia says "Most scholars date Job between the 6th and 4th century BCE". And that's the oldest book?
Here's another quote. "The concept of a spherical Earth dates back to ancient Greek philosophy from around the 6th century BC, but remained a matter of philosophical speculation until the 3rd century BC when Hellenistic astronomy established the spherical shape of the earth as a physical given."
@ninjajesus81 You trust Wikipedia? That is where you get your "facts"? Honestly, you could have just logged in and wrote that into the article (I don't think you did though, just making a point).
@66GreenBaron66 I trust Wikipedia on articles that have sources and aren't disputed by anybody.
The story of Job was told orally for centuries? Well, I don't know how you know that, but irrelevant, since I said people knew the Earth was a sphere when the Bible was written. Not "people knew it was a sphere when Job was being talked about at campfires".
@ninjajesus81 If you trust Wikipedia then here is another quote, "The Talmudic Tractate Bava Batra 15a-b maintains that Job was written by Moses, although nowhere does it name its author. Other opinions in the Talmud ascribe it to the period of before the First Temple, the time of the patriarch Jacob". But thats not really the point. The story of Job was told orally for centuries before it was written down.
@66GreenBaron66 And I don't see where you're getting this idea that Luke 17 is talking about something happening simultaneously on opposite sides of the Earth. Or that the night and day are occurring at the same time. I just read the whole chapter.
@ninjajesus81 There are indications in Luke 17, but if you don't see them, read other passages about it and you will see that it is an instantaneous event.
@ninjajesus81 If you trust Wikipedia then look it up on there. I don't have time to go look through Revelation, Daniel, other prophets, and the Gospels.
@ninjajesus81 No offense, but I don't know why we went off on this tangent. The point of my comment from days ago was that both a god-less creation and a creation by God are religious beliefs, neither is science.
@66GreenBaron66 How can a godless creation be a religious belief? If there's no belief in god, then there's no religious belief. Religion is a belief in a god.
And science is coming up with answers that are consistently godless. Never have we found that a god was required to do anything in nature.
@ninjajesus81 A godless creation cannot be proven, so its NOT science. Therefore, it is a belief, just like those that involve God, a spaghetti monster, ect. YOU FOLLOW? As for the religion part, a godless creation involves your religion of atheism. And as for "religion is a belief in a god", here is the dictionary's definition: "a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects."
@66GreenBaron66 The belief there is no god is not equal to the belief there is a god.
That's like saying the belief that Pokemon exist is on equal ground to the belief that they don't exist. It's not.
Even that definition of religion fails to include atheism because atheism isn't a set of beliefs. My friend's 6 month old daughter is an atheist because she doesn't believe in god. Does that mean she has a set of beliefs? No, she has no beliefs, including a belief in god.
@ninjajesus81 Maybe you havn't found anything that needs a god (which isn't true), but you cannot prove a creation without God. So pretty much you can't prove the most important part of your theory and atheist religion.
@66GreenBaron66 It's people like you that stop mankind from advancing into the future. Athiesm means "without (a-) God (theo)". That's not much of a religion, is it? In fact, without other religions, the word would have no meaning. Youre right, we cant prove creation without magic. Know why? Because the world wasnt created! It formed! And creation is most certainly not the most important part of atheism, its the most important part of Christianity. Why would divine creation prove athiesm?
@kilroy055 The world was formed? Out of what may I ask? And whatever formed it, where did that come from? Was that formed by something else or created? Atheism is a religion. Religion is your set of beliefs. Believeing in a universe formed (as you claim) without any god, os your religion. Religion doesn't necessarily have anything to do with a god(s).
@66GreenBaron66 Im sorry, usually I try to be polite to people when debating with them, but read a book dumbass. You dont even know what the earth is made of? Stone, idiot. It formed out of the Sun's acretion disk when rocky matter orbiting the young star collected into a sphere because of gravitational attraction. Atheism is a religion the same way not collecting stamps is a hobby. Are you an Astampist?
@66GreenBaron66 I did come up with a comment, actually. Did you read it? I can elaborate more, if you like. The atoms in the earth come from nuclear fusion in stars, which combined hydrogen to create light along with the higher elements. Supernovae from these stars scattered the materials, which collected into the planets. Athiesm is not a religion, because it is a simple statement of nonbelief in God. It has no scriptures or deities, and no belief system whatsoever. Science is not Athiesm.
Be patient Art, we're at 20%, don't get weak in the knees and go all religious or straight on me. You're a good human being, don't let them break you.
@tot792 seeing as how you evolved from the same monkeys and then was fooled by another monkey into believing that a space monkey exists and loves you... who is really the higher being. wake up bud! the only difference between santaclaus and jesus is that when you're older your parents tell you santa isn't real.
the problem whenever people like maher talk about religion is they like to take a lot of things out of context and then assume that every religious person has the same beliefs. not every person who believes in the bible believes every single then in there. not every religious person thinks that soldiers go to hell. you either love this guy or you wish he was dead. there is no in between with maher
Don't even try to reason with the monkey people, they are not made in the image of God like we are! As a man thinketh so is he says God. So let them be the monkey people who are descended from monkeys, lower beings who lack the cognitive ability or desire to know and see God! Lower beings simply can not know God, only higher beings can do this. Poor things.
@tot792 Only lower beings would believe that a man and his band of slaves could out run an Egyptian army (with chariots) across a hundred miles of sea floor. But you just be trollin', right?
How did something come from ABSOLUTE nothing in the first place? The only answer is God. Science doesn't have one. If everything did come from nothing, why doesn't something just return to nothing again? Why aren't there more big-bang like events? Why doesn't more matter, energy, ect. just appear out of nothing?
@66GreenBaron66 You could just judge me; or listen to what I have to say. Yes, my name is silly. But please look up "string theory" or "M theory" as it would answer your question.
@66GreenBaron66 They don't say it came from nothing. They say they don't know yet. That's how science works. Research leads to more research, which leads to more research. You can't just magically find the answer. But just because you don't know the answer doesn't mean it doesn't exist or that you can just make stuff up. People thought that sickness came from God, now we know it comes from germs. You have every right to believe in God but remember that it's a choice without proof of truth.

TheJuggernaut88 1 month ago
@TheJuggernaut88 If every single religious person in the world was crazy and made decision for your country based on their religious beliefs, then yes you would be justified in everything you say. However, they do not. To condemn and abuse every religious person for the actions of other religious people is reverse discrimination. It's no less ignorant and close-minded than reverse racism. The mentality that you have a right to be intolerant because some were intolerant to you is poisonous.
ColibriAnna08 1 month ago
@ColibriAnna08 Religious people have beliefs that are not only unproven, but some of them are crazy. And some of them are divisive. Religious belief is the reason gays can't get married. Religious belief is the reason why stem cell research is being held back. Religious beliefs can separate families and have caused, and still do cause wars. Religious beliefs obviously cause problems and they have very few, if any, redeeming qualities.
And we're sick of it. So cry me a river.
ninjajesus81 1 month ago
@ninjajesus81 As long as they don't impose them on you, a person's religious beliefs - no matter how crazy or false - are none of your damn business, and it's not your given right to abuse and bully anyone for it. Of course, religious beliefs are responsible for problems, but they are also responsible for good including institutions like St. Jude and the Salvation Army. Religion like most things is not inherently bad OR good. The redeeming qualities are there, but your vendetta blinds you.
ColibriAnna08 1 month ago
@ColibriAnna08 Their beliefs are none of my business, but when they talk to me about them, then I'm going to talk back about my beliefs. I don't abuse anyone.
Religious beliefs lead to far more destruction than good.
ninjajesus81 1 month ago
@ninjajesus81 Maher's conduct in the video was abusive, and no one was talking to him about their beliefs. He was on the offense - not the defense. If religious beliefs lead to far more destruction than good, then prove it. 85% of charities are religious. Whenever there is a natural disaster like in Haiti, the greatest relief comes from religious organizations and nations. If there is more evil done by religion that cancels that out, then prove it. You can't. You're just blind.
ColibriAnna08 1 month ago
@ColibriAnna08 3000 people died on 9/11 because of religion. Do you think a religious based charity cancels that out?
Thousands of people die every year in the middle east, and you cite a religious charity as a counter-example, and call it a wash. That's absurd.
And your idea that the greatest relief comes from religious organizations and "nations" (I don't know how you can call a nation religious), is completely baseless. That's a lie that religious people keep repeating.

ninjajesus81 3 weeks ago
@ninjajesus81 We are not against stem cell research. We are against human farming. We do not like the idea of growing a human and killing it off . However with Adult stem cells ( placental tissue) we have no issue with this at all. No life is destroyed in the process, there is great potential, and the results so far have been much better with the adult stem cells anyway. So I do not see what the problem is.
Apologist4Christ973 1 week ago
@Apologist4Christ973 Human farming? A blastocyst is made up of about 150 undifferentiated stem cells. You kill a million times that many cells every time you take a shower.
To protest the experimentation on a microscopic ball of cells, and pretending to care about it like you would a human being, is just an act.
And I don't think adult stem cells have produced much better results. I think that's another lie by creationists, who don't mind telling lies when it's convenient.
ninjajesus81 1 week ago
@ninjajesus81 Now it's one thing to say that you disagree with me. It's another thing to call me a liar. This is one thing I HATE about debating atheists. Instead of trying to make POINTS ( which I rather enjoy discussing), once an atheist is backed into a wall , they respond with something like "your a liar and your mom is a whore!". that's pretty desperate if you ask me. The cells you kill when you take a shower do not have human potential first off.
Apologist4Christ973 1 week ago
@Apologist4Christ973 You said adult stem cells have a higher potential than stem cells from a blastocyst. I said I think that's a lie creationists tell. You may be lying or you may have been lied to. Either way, if it's not true, then it's a lie. And I think it's not true.
The cells you kill when you take a shower DO have human potential. We have the technology to use those cells to create a life. Scientists have used mouse skin cells to create mice.
ninjajesus81 1 week ago
@ninjajesus81 Well yes, in a laboratory experiment, using human intelligence ( yes, I said that bad word, intelligence), and DNA... But that's not a process of nature, thats pure intelligent ( again) manipulation of the natural world.
Apologist4Christ973 1 week ago
@Apologist4Christ973 You said blastocysts have human potential. Well I provided you with an example of how skin cells also have human potential. Now you're moving the goalposts and saying "well, not naturally". Ok, well, why does it matter if the human potential is natural or not? If a human is born unnaturally, is it not a human? What's the difference? Can you not talk to that human? Does he not have a personality? Does he not bleed? Does he not have emotions?
ninjajesus81 1 week ago
@ninjajesus81 I think any time you reduce humanity down to nothing more than some mathematical equation, nothing more... you are just LOOKING for problems.....
Apologist4Christ973 1 week ago
@Apologist4Christ973 What mathematical equation am I reducing humanity down to? And what problems do I encounter?
I don't care what your opinion is on the truth, all I care about is the truth. If you find the truth unsettling, that's just too bad. The universe does not owe you a comforting existence.
I believe humans are just the result of chemistry and nature. Yet, I still feel EXACTLY the same way I do towards humans as I did when I believed God created us.
ninjajesus81 1 week ago
@ninjajesus81 That humanity does not have an eternal soul. if this holds true, what is the differnce between man and animal. Nothing. At the sub atomic level what is the difference between a man and a rock.. Nothing. What is the diference, to the Universe whether you are alive or dead? Nothing. What is the difference to GOD if you have value, or your eternal well being... EVERYTHING. I agree the Universe owes us nothing. But every day we breathe is a gift from God.
Apologist4Christ973 1 week ago
@Apologist4Christ973 You're right, there's no difference between our atoms and a rock's atoms, there's no difference between us and animals (hence why we can test medicine on animals before we use it), and the universe doesn't care whether you're alive or dead.
But let me ask you something; why does any of that really matter? How do those facts change anything about us? We're still the same humans we were before we found out we evolved.
ninjajesus81 1 week ago
@ninjajesus81 I wasn't talking only about blastocyst. I was talking about the general direction this can take us in. Its not a human, its a cell. It's not a human its a CLONE. it's not a human it's a JEW or a POLE ( see WW2). We are halfway there. YOU are an ape. YOU are a cosmic accident. YOU do not have a soul. YOU are nothing but matter ( parts/molecules)... Once we have convinced ourselves that to be HUMAN means NOTHING... It's checkmate for all of us dude.
Apologist4Christ973 1 week ago
@Apologist4Christ973 You're using the slippery slope fallacy. You're saying that first we're not considering a microscopic group of 150 cells a human, and the next thing you know, we're not considering full grown humans human. Well, you have no evidence that one will lead to the other. Humans (Well, most humans) are smart enough to recognize a distinction between a human being and a uniform, microscopic collection of cells.
ninjajesus81 1 week ago
@Apologist4Christ973 Humans ARE apes. I don't think we're a cosmic accident, I think life is a cosmic inevitability. There is no evidence for souls, and the evidence against them is pretty good, so yes, we probably don't have one. We are nothing but matter, there's no evidence that we're not any different from any other animal in that regard. But all of these facts doesn't lead to believing that being human means nothing. I think we're still pretty amazing (most of us).
ninjajesus81 1 week ago
@ninjajesus81 I would disagree with the "we have no evidence for souls". There is some strange stuff popping up, not only in Dr, witnessed NDE, and OBE's, but also Remote viewing ( which has been used by both the American and Former Soviet militaries for YEARS, and in the area of quantum physics, and the nature of consciousness... However these findings would KILL materialism, if they turn out to be true...
Apologist4Christ973 1 week ago
@Apologist4Christ973 Near death experience is what people say happened in their dreams. How is this proof of anything?
Out of body experiences are people who say they floated out of their bodies? Proof of this is where?
Remote viewing, again, where is the proof? Show me one experiment done under controlled conditions where remote viewing was shown to be possible.
Saying the military "used" it is baseless. Where is the evidence?
ninjajesus81 1 week ago
@ninjajesus81 And from what I am reading, Adult stem cells are FAR ahead of their embryonic counterparts. The embryonics are too unstable and difficult to control. The adult stem cells, seem more stable, can be taken from placenta, or even bone marrow. Let me ask, if the ADULT CELLS are just as effective and do the JOB, why are you so INCESSANT on using the EMBRYONIC CELLS, if the other work just as well ( apparently better)???
Apologist4Christ973 1 week ago
@Apologist4Christ973 I don't know that adult stem cells ARE just as effective at doing the job. If they were, why wouldn't scientists use them over embryonic stem cells? Well, I just found out why, and it confirmed my suspicion that creationists are just lying about it.
Adult stem cells have a significantly higher rate of apoptosis (programmed cell death).
They have higher rates of aging and significantly lower rates of growth.
Continued in next post...
ninjajesus81 1 week ago
@Apologist4Christ973 Certain cell types the stem cells differentiated into lost their ability to continue dividing.
Stem cells are supposed to be transplanted to the patient that needs them, but they age and die prematurely, and are therefore useless.
Their premature aging and death give skewed results for studying disease.
But the method needed to use adult stem cells may be the cause of these problems. But for now, we need to continue stem cell research.

@Apologist4Christ973 My utopia would be a place where happiness is maximized for the most people possible. "Good" works in the direction of that utopia, "bad" works against it.
Can you tell me anything wrong with my ideal utopia?
If not, then you would have to agree that following the Bible doesn't work towards that goal.
ninjajesus81 1 week ago
@ninjajesus81 Your point is well said. Nothing per se is WRONG with it so much. I agree I too want people to be happy. And interestingly enough the Bible VERY MUCH works towards that goal when you consider the teachings of Christ. Respect and love your neighbor. ( that promotes his well being). respect his property and do not steal it. Do not exploit him OR her. Humans are not for use one own "self gratification", they have value and worth.
Apologist4Christ973 1 week ago
@Apologist4Christ973 The Bible works towards that goal? Why do Christians always call it "the Bible", but then they disregard the largest part of the Bible; the old testament? The old testament, and I could argue the new testament as well, doesn't work towards the goal of maximum happiness. Killing people for a multitude of trivial "sins", is ridiculous, and creates a horrible society.
ninjajesus81 1 week ago
@ninjajesus81 However the happiness of the MOST people is not neccessarily the happiness for EVERYBODY ( there is the concept of individualism, I am a firm believer in that). However, I am not sure the only goal in living is "being happy". We all want that, but I think being RIGHTEOUS and being PRODUCTIVE take precedent over " I'm happy". You are born. You are happy. Then you die as if it never even mattered that you were born. I don't buy it for a second.
Apologist4Christ973 1 week ago
@Apologist4Christ973 Being righteous and productive is more important than being happy? To you maybe, and if that's what makes you happy, then do it. But not everyone cares about that, and to each his own. For you to say they lived and never mattered is just your opinion. I never said everyone had to live the same way for people to be happy.
And I don't know what you're not buying.

@Atheist18505 We are all aware of the possible advances into research done on stem cells. However to farm babies and kill them off doesn't seem very ethical to me.

tpstrat14 1 month ago
@sokratesz but thats not even my point. My point is that no "science" proves a god-less/natural creation. Thus saying "it will later when we learn more and it advances" means nothing because there is an equal chance it will prove the existance of God and that He created the universe.
66GreenBaron66 2 months ago
@66GreenBaron66
No it doesn't. Nothing that science has uncovered so far points to the existence of a creator and the further we're expanding our own knowledge, the less 'room' there is to 'hide' said creator.
sokratesz 2 months ago
@sokratesz Where to begin? You keep "moving the goal posts" anyway but here it goes: NO science proves a god-less/natural creation and NO science proves a creation by God (many gods, ect.). However, what science tells us can be interpreted whatever way you like, because no science gives us a definitive answer. Some evidence points one way, some points the other.
66GreenBaron66 2 months ago
@sokratesz For example, for me the fact that the universe is believed to be expanding is a evidence of God because many verses of the Bible (for example Isaiah 40:22 and Job 26:7) say, "God stretched out the heavens" (or something similar). But I'm sure you see that a different way, based on your worldview that there is no god(s), just as mine is based on my belief in a God.
66GreenBaron66 2 months ago
@66GreenBaron66
My worldvied does not include god because there is no evidence for him, not very much space left for him to 'hide'. Science rarely operates based on absolutes, and neither do I.
The fatal flaw whenever you bring up (your!) god is that it's only your god. A million different people that believe will give a different explanation of 'their' god, which means that god is nothing but man-made.
sokratesz 2 months ago

Just because they interpret that as evidence for god, doesn't mean it is.
ninjajesus81 1 month ago
@sokratesz 6. Billions (not millions) have a different explanation of God beacuse they INTERPRET God in different ways-He is NOT a different god for each person. In fact, that means billions of people see many things they interpret as evidence of God.
66GreenBaron66 2 months ago
@sokratesz Are you kidding (or a typical atheist that doesnt know why they dont believe in God)? Evolution has many flaws an has suffered many drastic changes, not to mention Darwin predicted a missing link would be found within decades...still waiting for one.
66GreenBaron66 2 months ago
@66GreenBaron66
I 'happen to be' a biologist and I would like to hear about your perceived flaws in evolution.
sokratesz 2 months ago
@sokratesz If you are an evolutionist teacher, beware of Jesus' words: "And if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around his neck" (Mark 9:42). Being an evolutionist teacher doesn't necessarily mean you are causing kids to turn away from God, but just be warned so you don't cross this line. Combine this with Pascal's wager and you could possibly be in serious trouble if God exists.
66GreenBaron66 2 months ago
@sokratesz Flaws in evolution abound, but I will name a few basic ones that you probably have a seemingly good answer to (but it actually isn't an answer) in order to cover your tail. There is no evidence whatsoever that matter, physical process, or material phenomenon can give rise to imformation (such as DNA).
66GreenBaron66 2 months ago
@66GreenBaron66
Look up the Urey and Miller experiment. There's also entire books dedicated to how seeming disorganisation in nature can give rise to patterns and apparent 'design'.
sokratesz 2 months ago

66GreenBaron66 2 months ago
@sokratesz 1st law of thermodynamics says that the total energy in the universe, or in any isolated part of it, remains constant. In other words, energy is not now being created or destroyed; it simply changes form. A corollary of the first law is that natural processes cannot create energy. Therefore, energy must have been created in the past by some agency or power outside and independent of the natural universe.
66GreenBaron66 2 months ago
@66GreenBaron66
Your first phrase is mostly right, your third fairly decent, but your third phrase is bollocks. How would such a being exist, given that there is no 'space' outside the universe? You mentioned before that it is expanding, well, you should also be aware that it is not expanding 'into' any empty space.
sokratesz 2 months ago
@sokratesz 4. God is beyond the universe, as He is beyond all matter, space, and time (as He created them). Speaking of "space", what was there before the little dot of all matter and energy (how'd that even get there or form?) before the Big Bang (i.e. what was the "nothingness" it was surrounded by)?
66GreenBaron66 2 months ago
And can someone tell me, why do religious people find the line 'something cannot come from nothing' convincing enough to dismiss the big bang theory and evolution, but somehow do not apply it to their own god?

Because they are fools, and they use the argument "God has always existed and needn't have a creator Himself" in defence. What a piece of shit!

66GreenBaron66 2 months ago
@66GreenBaron66 Because that is how science works, you look for facts and draw conclusions from them but as we learn more and more and our ways of research become more refined, we find out new things that go against the old ideas and so we change what we believed before. We believed that the earth was flat for a long time until we found out it was round. This is of course quite the opposite from religious people who draw conclusions from their holy books and then look for facts to support it.
JohanTW 2 months ago
@JohanTW exactly, with science we find out new things that go against old ones and change what we believe. Hence, the more we learn, the more we realize that any "science" about the Creation is wrong and stupid. And I would rather draw conclusions from an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, eternal God than from fallible man, wouldn't you?
66GreenBaron66 2 months ago
@66GreenBaron66 Sure, but thing is that this god hasn't told us a whole lot ;) IF the bible is really the word of god then we are in trouble because according to the bible we should be stoned to death for working on the sabbath and it also says that the entire world was flooded at one point etc I don't think this is divine at all. Also, what's wrong with changing opinion, it's natural. You don't know anything about something but guess and form an opinion - You learn more and form a new opinion.
JohanTW 2 months ago
@66GreenBaron66
Science progresses and our understanding of the world can change. Evolution however has not been changed in any major way for quite some time now, there are however a lot of details to refine. Same thing with Newtonian physics. They weren't wrong, just incomplete, so Einstein thought of something better that might still be improved upon.

@66GreenBaron66 It can't be scientifically proven that Pokemon don't exist, that doesn't mean the belief in Pokemon is on equal ground to a non-belief in Pokemon.
ninjajesus81 3 months ago
@ninjajesus81 They're not on equal ground from our view, but then believing there aren't Pokemon is a belief, not a scientific fact.
66GreenBaron66 3 months ago in playlist Bill Maher
@ninjajesus81 no they didn't. The Greeks thought Atlas supported it on his back for a while, and the Hindus believed a turtle or elephants supported the Earth. Theres two examples. As for the Bible it says it in many places, such as in the book of Luke, when Jesus described the day of His return. In Luke 17:31, Jesus said, "In that day", then in Luke 17:34, "In that night". This is an allusion to light on one side of the globe and darkness on the other simultaneously.
66GreenBaron66 3 months ago
@66GreenBaron66 People knew the Earth was a sphere when the Bible was written. They were even calculating its circumference.
This idea that Columbus proved the Earth wasn't flat is the biggest lie ever, and I guess that's what you believe.
"In that day" and "in that night" does not imply knowledge that the sun is on the opposite side of the globe. That proves that he knows the difference between light and dark. If it's light, it's day, if it's dark, it's night.
ninjajesus81 3 months ago
@ninjajesus81 You honestly think that in pre-1000 BC (when Job was written) they were calculating the circumference of the Earth? And yes, just about everyone knows Columbus didn't discover that the Earth was sphere. And Luke 17 is about an instantaneous event, so if something is instantly happening all over the Earth, it happens on one side which is dark, and one that is light.
66GreenBaron66 3 months ago in playlist Bill Maher
@66GreenBaron66 Where are you getting your numbers? Wikipedia says "Most scholars date Job between the 6th and 4th century BCE". And that's the oldest book?
Here's another quote. "The concept of a spherical Earth dates back to ancient Greek philosophy from around the 6th century BC, but remained a matter of philosophical speculation until the 3rd century BC when Hellenistic astronomy established the spherical shape of the earth as a physical given."
ninjajesus81 3 months ago
@ninjajesus81 You trust Wikipedia? That is where you get your "facts"? Honestly, you could have just logged in and wrote that into the article (I don't think you did though, just making a point).
66GreenBaron66 3 months ago in playlist Bill Maher
@66GreenBaron66 I trust Wikipedia on articles that have sources and aren't disputed by anybody.
The story of Job was told orally for centuries? Well, I don't know how you know that, but irrelevant, since I said people knew the Earth was a sphere when the Bible was written. Not "people knew it was a sphere when Job was being talked about at campfires".
ninjajesus81 3 months ago
@ninjajesus81 If you trust Wikipedia then here is another quote, "The Talmudic Tractate Bava Batra 15a-b maintains that Job was written by Moses, although nowhere does it name its author. Other opinions in the Talmud ascribe it to the period of before the First Temple, the time of the patriarch Jacob". But thats not really the point. The story of Job was told orally for centuries before it was written down.
66GreenBaron66 3 months ago in playlist Bill Maher
@66GreenBaron66 And I don't see where you're getting this idea that Luke 17 is talking about something happening simultaneously on opposite sides of the Earth. Or that the night and day are occurring at the same time. I just read the whole chapter.
ninjajesus81 3 months ago
@ninjajesus81 There are indications in Luke 17, but if you don't see them, read other passages about it and you will see that it is an instantaneous event.

66GreenBaron66 3 months ago in playlist Bill Maher
@ninjajesus81 No offense, but I don't know why we went off on this tangent. The point of my comment from days ago was that both a god-less creation and a creation by God are religious beliefs, neither is science.
66GreenBaron66 3 months ago in playlist Bill Maher
@66GreenBaron66 How can a godless creation be a religious belief? If there's no belief in god, then there's no religious belief. Religion is a belief in a god.
And science is coming up with answers that are consistently godless. Never have we found that a god was required to do anything in nature.
ninjajesus81 3 months ago
@ninjajesus81 A godless creation cannot be proven, so its NOT science. Therefore, it is a belief, just like those that involve God, a spaghetti monster, ect. YOU FOLLOW? As for the religion part, a godless creation involves your religion of atheism. And as for "religion is a belief in a god", here is the dictionary's definition: "a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects."
66GreenBaron66 3 months ago
@66GreenBaron66 The belief there is no god is not equal to the belief there is a god.
That's like saying the belief that Pokemon exist is on equal ground to the belief that they don't exist. It's not.
Even that definition of religion fails to include atheism because atheism isn't a set of beliefs. My friend's 6 month old daughter is an atheist because she doesn't believe in god. Does that mean she has a set of beliefs? No, she has no beliefs, including a belief in god.
ninjajesus81 3 months ago
@ninjajesus81 Maybe you havn't found anything that needs a god (which isn't true), but you cannot prove a creation without God. So pretty much you can't prove the most important part of your theory and atheist religion.
66GreenBaron66 3 months ago
@66GreenBaron66 It's people like you that stop mankind from advancing into the future. Athiesm means "without (a-) God (theo)". That's not much of a religion, is it? In fact, without other religions, the word would have no meaning. Youre right, we cant prove creation without magic. Know why? Because the world wasnt created! It formed! And creation is most certainly not the most important part of atheism, its the most important part of Christianity. Why would divine creation prove athiesm?
kilroy055 3 months ago
@kilroy055 The world was formed? Out of what may I ask? And whatever formed it, where did that come from? Was that formed by something else or created? Atheism is a religion. Religion is your set of beliefs. Believeing in a universe formed (as you claim) without any god, os your religion. Religion doesn't necessarily have anything to do with a god(s).
66GreenBaron66 3 months ago
@66GreenBaron66 Im sorry, usually I try to be polite to people when debating with them, but read a book dumbass. You dont even know what the earth is made of? Stone, idiot. It formed out of the Sun's acretion disk when rocky matter orbiting the young star collected into a sphere because of gravitational attraction. Atheism is a religion the same way not collecting stamps is a hobby. Are you an Astampist?
kilroy055 2 months ago
@kilroy055 Can't come up with a comment? Your silence proves you've been defeated.
66GreenBaron66 2 months ago
@66GreenBaron66 I did come up with a comment, actually. Did you read it? I can elaborate more, if you like. The atoms in the earth come from nuclear fusion in stars, which combined hydrogen to create light along with the higher elements. Supernovae from these stars scattered the materials, which collected into the planets. Athiesm is not a religion, because it is a simple statement of nonbelief in God. It has no scriptures or deities, and no belief system whatsoever. Science is not Athiesm.
