Matt, you really missed the point of the question. He wasn't asking about domain ALIASES, he was asking about multiple domains on the same IP address (ie, shared hosting).
The short answer is, NO, Google doesn't care if you have multiple sites that share the same IP address. While other considerations apply, the most significant issues you need to be concerned about is the quality or type of other sites sharing your IP and/or server, as this can cause your site either downtime or other issue
Matt you say things in circles. I've noticed this for quite a lot of your videos. You repeat the same things over and over. I never find myself watching the entire video because halfway through I've heard everything you have to say. You might want to work on that.
FU Matt, you dodged the REAL question!!! The guy asked you if Google cares or not if multiple websites come from the same IP address.
And the answer I think to be true is YES, it matters, but only to some extent. I'm sure it's fine to have multiple different sites on the same IP, while I'm sure that they will penalize having many similar sites on the same IP.
@vxcriss That's correct. It's ok to have a few websites on the same IP range, but if you have 100 sites on the same IP range it's going to be a negative for SEO.
I have a number of sites, all unrelated, spread across 2 servers and 2 IPs. I was going to purchase a large block of IPs to assign a different domain, maybe to or three, to each IP. So if I understan Matt correctly, the fact the sites are all different, each with unique layout and content, I don't have to do so? Or am I misunderstanding what he is explaining?
@drekaham it will crawl both regularly but if they link to each other then those links will probably be devalued because they know you own both sites... if your on shared ip with your host and it has bunch of spam then it may hurt... not affiliated with google but id guess this is close to what thed say
what if i have 2 totally different sites? also that the main domain is a gaming site and the addon domain is a site with jokes. will google crawl the sites only as much as it would for one site or would it crawl like normal for 2?
Addon domains do not have to do anything with each other. And there is no restriction on the uniqueness (templates, styles, emails, etc) of each site if one of them is an addon.
The only difference is that the addon domain is managed under the one hosting account, instead of being spread out across multiple accounts. Although you can still have multiple accounts if you wish too, but all under the same CPanel, or other manager as well.
I think the question is more about sites running from the same IP. Matt didn't really address this directly because I don't think the question was phrased well, an Addon domain (as referenced to by cPanel, I assume what the questioner was asking about) is a domain that functions in a subdirectory of the users hosting account, it runs from the same IP.
As far as I know google does not penalize multiple sites from the same IP, so anyone using addon domains for different sites should be okay.
The only time it would be an issue is if you're running multiple sites that mirror the same content to create artificial back links, in this case doing it from the same IP would be *very* bad, but even if you did it from separate IPs you'd still be penalized if you're caught.
There is no problem running sites from the same IP, the only time it is an issue is when they're interlinking to create backlinks and improve pagerank artificially.
@CitricSquid that was my question too. I have 5 or so sites on the same hosting account as add-on domains, so 4 of them are under the subdirectory of the first website I registered with the hosting company. The sites have nothing to do with each other, different names, etc. My question is - would those other 4 sites be better off on a seperate hosting account? Obviously a dedicated IP is best, but I can't afford that for each blog/site I manage.
@nnnick03 As long as your sites are not interlinking then you should be fine. Google will only penalize you if you try and boost your link backs between sites all from the same IP.
What about a plumber that registers 100 sites that are identical except for the "city, state" abbreviation. This guy has like 50 of these and the only difference is the color scheme and which community in the Pittsburgh Area his SEO company is targeting.
I too i'm in the same position in which I have one site and I create more sites via add on domains simply because of the price of hosting. All my add on domains are totally unrelated to each other and just span various interests of mine.
I think the person asking the question was really trying to ask the question in regards to "hosting" - meaning does google penalize sites for all being on one account or whether it is best to go with a reseller hosting plan. Basically is "adding on" domains to a single hosting plan is acceptable.
mate, he was asking about SHARED HOSTING add-on domains u PLONKER!

This is? not very effective. Page Rank is calculated mainly by
the homepage. Besides Google knows the difference between a
profile page and the homepage.

Try to add some Description for Photos not for SEO purpose
but for people. That will
help you.
You can also share in Flickr that may help you rank well.

So if you have TOTALLY different sites it's best to buy DIFFERENT independent hosting for each?

What about this one:
I have +20 related domains, I started developing few days ago.
Very the same niche.
But they have completely different and quality content, different template,.
The duplicate is in title, meta description of the sites.
Will they get penalty ?

I didn't get the last part. If someone registers a domain name with "google" in it, how can Google do anything about it?

@CitricSquid Same ip means nothing many hosts run thousands of sites from one ip .. IP's are irrelevant apart from location determination .

For someone that has stated in the past not to have your own internal network of sites, to now say to do just that sounds funny to me.
