I'm one of the diehards you're talking about. I've tried to gather all the best Steelheart vids on YouTube into a comprehensive set of playlists for Steelheart lovers. Mili said in an interview that he lives an incredibly clean life, no drugs, alcohol, smoking, or anything that might compromise his incredible vocals. (Compare to Robert Plant, who I also love, but Mili has really kept his word)
