How does this woman not realize that gay families are filled with mothers and fathers raising children? Just because there are two of them doesn't make them any less a child's mother or father. Two moms cam raise a child; two dads can raise a child. Maggie's org is just making it harder for them to do so!

One thing that often gets overlooked is that the tax-exemption that they got is NOT the same exception that a church gets.

In fact, they were originally denied the exemption because NJ felt that the public wouldn't benefit from it (a stipulation of the exemption) so they made sure that the pavilion was open to the public. The even held a Civil War reenactment there!

If a church wants to operate as a business it has to play by the same rules as any other business!

It's easy to know on which side of history each of the opponents are. One side is only using the reptilian, fear-mongering portion of the brain, and the other side exudes love and compassion. Think of the soaring rhetoric of Dr. Martin Luther king versus ranting KKK members, or this woman Maggie versus Philip Spooner (on youtube), or San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders (on youtube) both giving such moving speeches they make people cry.

The interesting part of this video happens at the end where Maggie accidentally validates her opponent's marriage by discussing the quality of their respective relationships. There is common ground there, she falls into talking about it, drops her "different" speech, and reveals there is no difference. Stunning.

Maggie is clearly running out of arguments as none of them are logical. There is a lot of research that shows that same sex marriage and same sex parents are just as healthy as heterosexual couples.

The reason civil unions don't work is twofold:

(1) Businesses need to do twice the paperwork, and modify software and databases, to support this expensive new concept of "civil union" in addition to marriage, so they simply don't do it until forced by a court.

(2) Civil unions ARE marriages, to which we've applied a special "Scarlet Letter" of hate. The primary reason they exist is to demean same-sex couples.

Thanks for your comments hkfamily- Maggie sort of answered the question at the :35 second mark, although it sounds more like an opinion. The entire debate will be up on Hofstra's website hopefully within a week or so. I definitely recommend watching it. She might clarify more for you. I've watched it 3 times already and am still a little confused as rhetoric is always open to so much interpretation.

did anyone catch what maggie said.........the definition of happy marriage "when you think your spouse is getting a better deal than you" no that's how a divorce starts....she needs to wakeup and listen to what she's saying - the threat here is not homosexuals marrying it's people getting married and then getting divorced.

Maggie's warped assumption is that if gay couples can marry, it will adversely affect straight marriages. That somehow they will become less special. This is a slippery-slope argument that has no basis in fact. She, herself, says that it will take many generations to find out if marriage equality is a bad idea. You can't prevent a group of people from having equal rights based on a 'what if' scenario.
