Sadly there are no good Captains for Space Marines no matter what you give him a Liberian is always superior. The only time you want one is for a Bike army to get your bikes scoring, then give him a Relicblade and a Stormshield.

@blublub2k i guarante you, my command squad slices your librarian in half befor he can say eke eke peteng! THATS the reason why you take a captain. not for him, but for his squad ;-)

The thing is the librarian sits in his metal box(Raider or Rhino/Rback) casts nullzone/blocks psy stuff and feels pretty save. While his friends with 3++ save and a Thunder Hammer/Las/Plas Backs other shooty units take care of business. :) In a bike command squad sure, but other then that even for terminator squads when i want to them to fight better i get a Chaplain for Fearless and re-rolls. Space Marines Charaters should almost never fight with some exceptions(vulkan).

@GirlPainting yes, but a command squad costs considerably more than a librabian - so not really a valid comparison. I could just as easily say that my librarian joins a terminator assault squad and that they will wipe the floor with your command squad.

Also - even solo - one good vortex or avenger power from the librarian and your command squad is toast....

the black reach captain model has a relic blade by default... u didnt need to convert him... the power sword is smaller... u can check...

the black reach captain has the best equipment for a capltain... relic blade artificier armor and bolter (or bolt pistol) costs the same 145 pts total

Very tidy conversion. for a paint scheme how about something really outlandish, quartered like someone mentioned howling griffons, lots asking for purple and saw some asking for imperial fists. howling griffons would be both, or stormlords , your red techniques with the clean white would look wicked

Storm Bolter (firepower against weak hordes) & Relic Blade (great close combat punch in initiative order) is my favourite equipment for my Captain. :)

And since he kicks so much ass with that, I'd say paint him as an ANGRY MARINE. :D

oh and as for colors, a pre heresy emperor's children would be a nice change compared to normal dark a grity variety. it also doesn't help the templarcrusade01's (might not have spelt that right) Great Crusade campaign has really gotten me back into wanting to play my space marines. so maybe a couple pre heresy painting tuturiols in honor of his amazing campaign project

can vanilla space marines take stormbolters cheap? if so, then you might want to change the bolt pistol for one. if i remember right you're not getting the +1 for offhand from the bolt pistol because you have a relic blade, so the extra shot before you charge would probably be nice. Also, on the original black reach captain, he actually has a bolter, bolt pistol, powersword which is a cheap option for versatility if your stuck on foot and are too far to charge, but within rapidfire range

Basicly the black templar captain equivalent can be equiped with anything from the black templar armory along as i don't exceed 100 points (about?) in additional equipment. Soooo, nothing cheasy like talking a bolt pistol, combi flamer, stormbolter, and power weapon for some utility. i run him in a command squad for some close combat action so the combi flamer plus two guys with flamers helps with hordes ;D.

@monstermorrill Black Reach doesn't even include a legal army list....it wouldn't surprise me that the captain is illegally equiped.

If I was taking a Relic Blade (30pts), I would probably replace the bolt pistol with a stormbolter (3pts), a bolter with Hellfire rounds (10pts), or a Storm shield (15pts). Too bad you can't take the stormbolter with hellfire rounds.

Very nice models you made yourself there. I never liked that Black Reach Captain model though, but nice thing you did to him. He looks very menacing with that relic sword (!) Personally I like to tool them up with powerfists and combi-meltas, but that's just from a modelling perspective, since I really don't play that much.

I have never seen anyone do the White Minotaurs. I think he will look awesome in shining golden armor, with robes in white and scarlet....
