One of the most beautiful women on a tv series of the time----Elizabeth, you are so sadly missed, but never gone from our minds and thoughts-- my condolences to your family and all loved ones -- we will see you in the next life-- with love and gratitude
@screenjims2006 No one could have said it better than you just did. I was 4 when the show came out, Sept 17,1964. Elizabeth Montgomery was my first crush as I got older. She never missed work in all 254 shows. I cannot believe she did not win an Emmy. Alice Peace did, the first one, but died of Cancer but kept working. Liz talks about her in an interview in she did in 1991. She left us way too soon, I remember I was in the car and the top of the hour on the news the bewitched song played.
Love it. Elizabeth looks terrific, you get to hear the vocal version of the theme and she's actually wearing a dress seen on the show Bewitched. Thanks for posting this. The quality is great.
Boy...it amazes me how much audiences have changed in 44 years. A show like this would absolutely flop these days. What will shows be in another 44 years?
@7855waldo, yeah a show like this doesn't hold up compared to the restraint, intelligence and class that today's sophisticated audiences have come to expect out of Wife Swap, The Surreal Life, Big Brother and Dancing with the Stars.
@WastedPo Good point, although I'm worried that people like yourself have taken the trouble to remember the names of these GarbageCanOramas.
Between unwatchable mawkish (referred to in previous post) and the horrible Wife Swap et al, that's my reason why I gave up watching TV about ten-fifteen years ago.
@marianaph17, I was being sarcastic in response to the people saying that this is "cornball." My point is, compared to what people today call trendy and cool, Hollywood Palace looks like footage from the Algonquin Round Table.
@marianaph17, I agree with you. In fact, I think it's safe to say that pretty much ANY decade since the inception of the "modern-day" audio/visual medium had more magic and integrity than what we've been calling entertainment over the last several years.
Wow, that opening number is something else - managing to incorporate all her conjuring schtick as well as the theme song with lyrics! Odd, but fun, and really the sort of thing that should have been included on one of the dvd sets, in my opinion.
I wonder if Elizabeth twinkled her nose, she could make the first Act disappear. They STINK. Females are more agile in acrobatics, and an all Male act sucks shit BIGTIME. The only thing men are good for in acrobatics is the Anchor ( the bottom of the ocean would be a good start, I suspect)
if you notice she wore this same dress in one of the episodes of bewitched when the queen of all witches and warlocks hepsibah came too evaluate her and darrin's marriage
I have a comprehension of what you go through. As far as Elizabeth, I would have loved to have been friends with her. I was (am) 20 years younger and far removed from her social circle.
KinnikuSuguru is absolutely correct. The opening number played by the Baja Marimba Band is "Acapulco 1922", which was also covered by Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass on their first album, "The Lonely Bull".
DentelTV2, thanks for the upload. Great to see EM taking a break from Bewitched. Did one of these shows ever not feature an acrobat act? FYI, the Baja Marimba Band doesn't start playing Portuguese Washerwoman until the end of the clip, on the fadeout. Their opening number was a familiar one - I just don't know the name. The audio was an improvement over the Washerwoman-only clip on YouTube (athough that effort was appreciated). It'd be nice to see some BMB clips generated from this source!
Great stuff! Elizabeth Montgomery as the hostess of Hiollywood Palace makes this video even more charming! The Three Robertes were incredible with their agile performances! The Baja Marimba Band brought back a lot of memories of when my Father used to listen to their records on his stereo! This is nostalgic entertainment at its BEST!! Thanks for posting this! I have to watch the rest of the show now...it's great!
You are so right, lucy said that in a 1978 interview that TV had gone down the tubes and that was in 78. Lizzy Montgomery was one of the prettiest and classy women ever on TV. She was very kind outside her work. In 1969 this blind girl wrote her office and she and her family were going to be out there and could she meet Lizzy. Bill Asher gave the ok and the girl and her family went out to there house. On July 16th 69, Lizzy told her she go up early to watch the men leave for the moon that day.
Wow, she must've loved that dress...she wore it on an episode of Bewitched...I want to say in "Charlie Harper, Winner," from season 3, but I can't remember exactly...
Motown65 had it right...one of, if not, iconic TV's greatest beauties. Liz could've carried a variety show all her own. I'm struck by how down-to-earth and not glammy/snooty she remained out of her suburban Bewitched element. By many accounts I've read, seems she was quite a nice person.
Liz was SO HOT....from the first time i saw her in a Twilight Zone - i was hooked. i caught her on a game of Password. watching her describe 'vibrator' without cracking up was priceless. this show however was TERRIBLE
wow, the 3 Roberti's!!! Only the 2nd time I've ever heard my last name on TV , the other was on Hart To Hart! ( Honey. why don't we dine at Roberti's ( restaurant) tonite!>? oK JOHNAHAN!
Elizabeth Montgomery looks stunning as usual, and what a beautiful voice she had.She Bewitched a whole nation with that beauty and charm, I am seeing these Hollywood Palaces for the first time, though I have been a fan for years of Elizabeth. Thank You for posting this and anything else on the great Elizabeth.
Wouldn't it be nice if Hollywood produced this kind of entertainment today instead of the bunch of no talent amatures they find on American Idol or the bunch of back stabbing whiners on Survivor?
This was originally telecast on October 1, 1966, and was Liz's first attempt at hosting a variety show. I believe ABC asked her to appear on the "PALACE" to promote her series (which had recently begun color telecasts); she approached it as somewhat of a "lark", to attempt something different than just being "Samantha". Not many people [and viewers] knew she could be just as talented in a production number or comedy sketch as being a straight actress...Dick Tufeld is your announcer.
Liz, is a class act! She was clearly before her time. It was a huge mistake for the network to have Nicoll Kidman to portray her version of Samantha[bewitched]. Liz, will always be a legend! Tinka, Tinka, Tink!
This was a most superior variety series ever made! truely a classic ABC-TV icon from
the 1960s. but more impressive, was the fact that United Artists Television also co-produced
this series,,and that Dick Tufeld was the voice announcer, while working as the voice of the
"Robot" on "LOST IN SPACE"-may he truely Rest in Peace! but down the road,it is hoped
that this series will be made availible on DVD,eventually. i know that ABC did a special in
1993 on this show.
