I play American football, Basketball AND football on quite a regular basis. I really enjoy these three sports, but the top for me will always be football(soccer). Say whatever you want, that's just THE sport for me! There's something magical about it! Nothing is better than concluding a marvelous action with a fantastic goal ! Rugby in the USA is lightyears away from the competitive level of American football. In New Zealand it would be quite different.
It's not like schools from around the world can't afford AF, they just don't have the same traditions as the American schools. Schools in most countries are meant for education, not American sports.
@Geraldo1101 I think its more of the fact that creating an AF team is a gamble, because you dont know how well the team will develop and actually make money for the school, and whether or not it will have a proficient fan base. in America, pretty much everybody loves AF, so creating a school team is guaranteed to pay off. Other schools around the world will pretty much have no fanbase of AF, so whats the point of making a team? And yes, schools in america are meant for education as well :P

Association Football(Soccer) still is not popular in the US. Nor is it popular in any other English speaking developed country around the world. It's popular in Europe and in the 3rd world. BUT...the first "FC" to play Soccer outside of England(even before Scotland) was in Boston Mass. American's called it Bostonball. The first Pro league for Soccer outside of England was the Pro League of Footballers on the US East coast started play in 1894. Soccer just has too much competition in the US.

Also that punt interference penalty was one of the worst calls i saw all year. That bogus penalty is where all the momentum shifted in Nevadas favor.

Most don't know that the name comes from rugby football (the game it evolved from) and the Americans shortened the name to football, which many find insulting, they may have a point, the Americans could have chosen another way to shorten the title, but the name was made over 200 years ago and wont likely change

Americans don't wear gear when they play Rugby, why would you? It's just keepaway with minimal contact.
Everyone wears gear when they play AF. Vertical nature, freedom of tackle and aggressive obstruction make the game far more dangerous.
That’s why Rugby is only a stage 2 sport when paying for health insurance and AF is a Stage 4 sport.
Few countries are big and wealthy enough and have a school sports system to support the game.

Rugby in the USA is lightyears away from the competitive level of American football. In New Zealand it would be quite different.
It's not like schools from around the world can't afford AF, they just don't have the same traditions as the American schools. Schools in most countries are meant for education, not American sports.

@Geraldo1101 I think its more of the fact that creating an AF team is a gamble, because you dont know how well the team will develop and actually make money for the school, and whether or not it will have a proficient fan base. in America, pretty much everybody loves AF, so creating a school team is guaranteed to pay off. Other schools around the world will pretty much have no fanbase of AF, so whats the point of making a team? And yes, schools in america are meant for education as well :P

And I play 2-way in pop warner and I like safety better than running back. So when I go to college I want to play safety. I love defense in basketball too. @jackobendo1 while it is true that the American football IS 1 foot long (actually 11.75 inches, but close enough), that's not the true reason they named the game football. The name comes from the game it evolved from, which was rugby football, after rule changes, scoring etc they removed the rugby part of the name and just called it football. The name may not make sense, but that's the reason and convincing a Nation to call it something else after many generations isn't going to happen.

Association Football(Soccer) still is not popular in the US. Nor is it popular in any other English speaking developed country around the world. It's popular in Europe and in the 3rd world. BUT...the first "FC" to play Soccer outside of England(even before Scotland) was in Boston Mass. American's called it Bostonball. The first Pro league for Soccer outside of England was the Pro League of Footballers on the US East coast started play in 1894. Soccer just has too much competition in the US.

By the time soccer became popular in the USA American Football had ALREADY taken the name football, so we decided to use the old british name for football (soccer). Also other countries such as Australia, , South Africa, Canada, and some New Zealanders use the name soccer because they have other sports called football.

The game evolved and other rules were put in place such as the line of scrimmage, down and distance, foward pass. As these rules began to be incoporated into the sport the use of the foot became less prelevant, but Americans still kept the name football, and will always call it football. sorry bro you bitching wont change it.

@theNFListhebest I used to like the NFL more, but the more i watched college ball the more i began to dislike the NFL. BSU student here... i went to all the home games this year. It wasn't just 1 player, but multiple. There were a crap load of drops by the WR in that game. Not to mention we got our ass kicked at the LOS in the 2nd half. Also that punt interference penalty was one of the worst calls i saw all year. That bogus penalty is where all the momentum shifted in Nevadas favor.

The NFL playoffs kick ass though except for New Englands recent performances. I grew up in Alaska so i have favorite sports teams from all over the place.

@eskimobronco well i hate the Patriots, but they are outstanding. i just wish the Redskins were a better team :( well i only got to watch until halftime in the BSU vs Nevada game, i had to go to bed. I live on the east coast so it was like 10:30 when the game started. i thought they had the game in the bag at halftime, but i guess not....but yeah, that Fiesta bowl was incredible. you never will see that in the NFL. i guess i like NFL more because college just has too many teams and bowl games.

People its sports....nothing to get hostile about. To each his own. I find American Football to be very entertaining. I fell asleep watching the world cup final for soccer but you dont see me tearing the other sport down. On the professional level both sports are played by highly skilled world class atletes.
