If that was me, I'd be trying not to laugh. I cannot sit still at all. Though I did have a hummingbird buzz me once because I was wearing a bright red cap. It just popped up in front of my face to say "Hi" and "You're not a flower!"
@S0XF0X Hi, I probably had him sit on me a few other times. I still go out and hold the feeder and they will eventually come drink or land. It's quite a rush. Best time is during the hour before sunset.
I looooove doing this! When I was a little girl, my mom taught me to hold hummingbirds like this when we went camping in the New Mexico mountains. :> It was soooo much fun, I've loved them ever since.
Amusingly enough, we always had lots of green-backed, red breasted hummers and ALWAYS one bright gold-red rufous taunting the others in the group. it never failed. XD it was so funny watching the Rufouses zip around and act like the King of the Mountain.
i walked up to a hummingbird perched on a fence and pet it. Today I found one with a broken wing and it's been sitting on my finger most of the time, then on my stomach and chest. I've been feeding it all day with a eye dropper. I just put it in a box with a hb feeder, for the night.
Wow! I didn't know the Grim Reaper had a fondness for cute little hummingbirds. (Just kidding.) ;) Awesome video and it must have been an awesome experience as well! Thanks for sharing.
LOL. Not scary, really, but just so eerily still. I can't believe you were able to stay so immobile. If I had tried that, my nose would have immediately started itching or something. :)
You can do it. You take care of itches when they go away. There's a pattern to their feeding. One minute there's a crowd at the feeder and then the next few minutes you can take break and itch those itches and put your hands down, It's truly worth the little effort to get that close.
Hummers aren't really the types to peck. Those tiny little beaks would probably snap off if they tried to peck someone. :<
It's perfectly safe to do this, my mom taught me to do it on our yearly camping trips when I was a kid. It does get a little freaky at first, but once you relax, it's so much fun! hehehe
This is unbelievable! I have never seen hummingbirds in real. It is absolutely amazing! BTW, Gae told me about you. All of your videos are incredible! :) I am definitely subscribing it and favoritizing this movie clip.
This is just un believeable. I have only seem HB's 2x both in CA. I live in FLA. Where is this taken? It must have been all you could do to stay perfectly still! Great!! Thanks!!

I had a really brilliant red tractor a few years ago and humming birds would always try to feed from it it was comical.

If it has a broken wing you need to get it to a vet urgently! They will treat it for free being a wild bird - it will be suffering!

True, he is a little freaked out by me. I had not gone out there to stand in a long time so the local hummers were no longer used to me.
