@solace001 They're making fun of a Japanese series referred to as Super Sentai. It has different series just like Power Rangers, like how they have Time Force, Wild Force, Ninja Storm, etc. One of their series, Zyuranger was adapted into the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The series after that got adapted into Power Rangers as well.
The first time Power Rangers officialy revealed it self as being based on a Japanese product was in during a special for power rangers in space and a mini documentary which precided the airing of the Power Rangers unaired pilot episode. One contained both the Megaranger summer ending and the Ban Dora Song from Zyuranger while the other just simply stated they came from Japan with footage featuring the Zyurangers our of there suits. That was awsome now I'm a fan of both shows.
Thanks for posting this. I was a teenager back in the 80s and the family farm was in a cable no-man's-land. I always listened to my friends talk about these shows but I could never watch them. My formative years really sucked!!
Oh man, this takes me back. I loved Night Flight and this sort of stuff. The bizarre variety of stuff they showed went pretty much unrivaled until outlets like YouTube came about. Definitely one of the best things to come out of the early 80's cable explosion.
This is a pretty late episode (1988) but still great!
man the flipper episode was hilarious when they kept repeating im( jumping in the water i am too ) yes please post that one and yes this was before the power rangers
I kinda think that if it wasnt for older kids like me that saw Dynaman at the same time as Voltron that PowerRangers would have never taken off because the younger kids wouldn't have thought that those combining mechas were cool unless thier older siblings had already been mentaly infected with this trash that aird after their parents had gone to sleep so they could watch watever and pass it on to thier little brothers and sisters.
Acchuly the First series to ever come out from Japan, & to the States was Bioman in 1984 on philipino Tv, all of it's episodes were dubbed in English Expect the Movie ! Dynaman was in 1987 to 88 with only 6 episodes ! around that time in 1988 France was having there second Season of the Bioman Series Bioman 2 ! in Truth the only Japanese Hero's we ever got in the USA was Ultraman, Super Sentai, & all the crap Saban made in the 90's ! I hope Kamen Rider will become a good hit next year !
And if Power Rangers hadn't have taken off,we'd have got more sentai dubs!Yeah,it is a shame everything has to be cut up with new actors spliced in. You can't JUST have it dubbed into english.
Since The Video is not here can someone tell me what song is played during the destruction of Dynablacks power plant in the "spunky the wonder squid" episode?
I here that, before the internet, before there was Wikipedia, & Before there was even Youtube ! the Idea of there every being a Japanese version of the Power Rangers was unthinkible ! After the Movie it was revealed that Power Rangers was Based on Zyurangers, or as they called it on the 1990 News Report JudoRangers ! but every one thought it was just one show ! Some people to this day could never imagamation how bigger it was, until they go to wikipedia look up Power Rangers & press Super Sentai
@DEKA1 Hey there I just want to say it could not have been possible that your heard power rangers originated from Zyuranger in 1990 because Zyuranger did not come out until 1992 and Power Rangers until 1993. The first Power Ranger movie came out in 1995. I knew of Power Rangers being addaptations of a Japanese series from two specials/documentary's that aired in 1999 which by chance happen to be the time in which I ceased regularly view that show. XD
@amusedtodeath1 i meant to say 1990's, ofcourse i know zyuranger started in 1992 ! i also saw a power ranger documentary about power rangers which they said the first show was Goranger, & insted of Goranger, show'ed Zyuranger Footage ! since goranger was in 1975 until its last episode 84, in 1977 !

I felt that Day of the Dolphin and Spunky the Wonder Squid were a bit sillier than this episode, but not bad. ;)
