I think Illidan is possibly more powerful than Malfurion, or at least he should be. I haven't seen much to say anything for Malfurion's power. Malfurion just gets more respect from the night elves because, unlike Illidan who chose to do what had to be done to achieve his goals, Malfurion hugs trees.

@TheBrendude actually illidan and furion are twins and illidan turned evil during the war of the ancients; he agreed to work together with the burning legion, because he wanted to gain power from them and later use that power against them (for example he sacrificed his eyes for it) and Maiev hates him because he attacked her brother Jarod

I hope Illidan comes back soon. I have a theory that Sargeras will return to Azeroth, but he needs a body. His powers came in Gul'dans skull and Illidan absorbed it, therefore absorbing the essence of Sargeras. Doing that, Sargeras can ressurect Illidans body who has his eyes and essence. Illidan wont be nice in the next expansion.

@movienaut My theory is that Illidan lost his soul to Frostmourne the day that his chest was cut by Arthas on his way to becoming the Lich King. And seeing as demons don't "die" (they are simply reincarnated-according to an Ogri'la quest "Banish the Demons") and his soul was finally released from Frostmourne by Tirion's lame 1 shot... Illidan was never the bad guy in the story, check it all out, he just has a duality in his approach to situations that is constantly misconstrued.

Now i get the story.....so illidan used to be a night elf, malfurion's brother, in fact. but then he fell in love with tyrande and it made Maiev mad for some reason so she decided to kill him. I don't get how somehow Illidan got to work for the Burning Legion though. I know that he was tricked by Arthas into taking the Skull of Gul'dan, then being called a traitor of the Burning legion and turned into a demon, which is why he looks nothing like a night elf. And Illidan was able to return to the
