I have a bitch called Kosha. We rescued her five years ago. She is a mix and just very recently I saw some videos with Iris Woflhounds, and she does look very much like that but much smaller...what a surprise, I didn´t even know the breed existed.
This is my pup and his mum, Megan at his birth home in Scotland. He will be 4 this year. Don't think I've e er seen this until tonight. It's lovely. Thank you Fran
Ran out of space to add that we had an Irish Wolfhound who lived 11 -1/2 yrs. When we got her IW life expectancy was 8 yrs. I just love IWs but would hate to go thru the heartbreak of losing one really young.
Guess I'll add to the controversy - I have a feeling that it's only in the U.S. that IW lives are getting shorter - not in Britain. In the U.S. many dog and cat breeds have been bred for traits that just completely change the breed - look at Siamese and Burmese for example. The Burmese have shortened snouts/faces and siamese have heads shaped like flat wedges. It's been probably 50 years since they bred the brains right out of Collies to get a narrow long head.
The most noble and, yes, "beautiful", dog on this earth. However, what I have to say will be 'controversial' to many but it needs repeating. I strongly believe the 'purebred' wolfhound should no longer exist. The health problems due to incessant 'pure' breeding are overwhelmingly on the increase and their expected life-span is pitiful.
My last dog was Wolfhound crossed with Bearded Collie. Suffice to say, no health issues 'til he died at a ripe 15 years old. 'Spiritually', he was all Wolfie!
@blackmore4 it's not controversial, i read in a crufts book that the breed was "saved" by a victorian general (or some rank) and they reckon he used several breeds to recreate the look.
but i would never get a pedigree, there are too many health problems, it's not fair on the poor animal; we have a belgium shepard cross rough collie, he's gorgeous, and very healthy. would love to have seen yours. Dog lovers unite!
Amazing how their faces change so much. We have a Scottish Deerhound x lurcher and his head seems to have undergone major reconstructive surgery sinice he was a pup!

We have a wolfhound mix and he is an incredible friend and family member.
He has mostly wolfhound traits but is just a little devil at 2.5 years old.

@merthyrmafia Irish Wolfhounds, not Scottish Deerhounds. They are "related" but IWs are heavier, have wider muzzle and head and are heavier boned.
