  • All of the parts are colliding into each other. There is no balance, where is the melody, where is the harmony????

  • That IS an odd sounding key.

  • High school style arrangement. We olayed the real shit in 1990,Eric Baskin wrote it.This sounds too low in key .Sound like Jstate or some shit.

  • So we are all supposed to take breathes at different times?...Togther is phrasing right?

  • This Jdog southerns whole band stops and breath together damn near every song I seen them live against grambling twice big disapointment but then again I was looking for something THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO GET A GOOD SOUND Yes they have volume but who dont. Song for song spartan legion hands down will out play them. nsu band is like the lakers coached very well by the best get new players every year and get the same results you dont have to like us or love us but respect is a no brainer

  • as much greef as u give su u really be a band director that's the purpose for upper and lower brass to be balanced duh?

  • I like Southern's tuba line but they sound a mess in this clip, its like the notes are too high and they all dieing out and just 1 person is quacking random notes in the front, for all those tubas they should sound a little more fuller and take that part down if they can't play that part high throughout the whole song. They should be putting some bass in the band and not trying to play higher than the upper brass

  • Damnit, I couldn't agree more. I've got mad respect for the Jukebox, but all that upper brass desperately needs a full, strong brass tuba sound to complement it. Having tubas play the high octaves is like having trumpets playing low octaves below a concert C. Pointless.

  • There is NOTHING to like about their tuba section...they SUCK...Period!! With those 5lb fiberglass horns they should be able to put more air into it! ha!

  • To say that they suck is just ignorant, their parts are some of the most involved tuba parts in the swac, i guarantee you, if u were to put another tuba section in southern's shoes they would die out cuz they dont got chops like them. The Fiberglass tubas suck, but not the tuba players. The tuba players are very skilled at what they do, and if you dont hear them in clips it's probaly because they understand that they are supposed to be felt and not heard in some songs. .

  • Well I hope you remain anonymous just like your name says....Yes they suck...that's just my opinion...from tone to range...not very impressive. Must be the fiberglass then I guess:/ Have you ever been apart of a tuba section or even carried a horn? I ask b/c you're speaking from a 3rd person point of view...and the last comment "felt not heard"....how exactly do you feel a tuba section and not hear them? Sounds to me like THEY need to get THEIR weight up and stick with the volume of the band.

  • Tone will suffer on a fiberglass horn. They have range but if u try to play a pedal on a fiberglass horn it wont sound too good and IMO they have a good enough range, im sure they have pedals and u've probaly heard them playing those b flats. and yah ive been a part of a tuba section. i was like 3-4th in line for LLi when they went to march in the rose bowl. As for being felt not heard, jus think of a song you would listen to in your car. Unless u jus got the bass on high and not enjoyin the

  • song, if u were like listenin to the song for its lyrics and the melodie, would you really want the bass overpowering the melody. Thats what i mean by felt not heard. And southern is like a big brass band, if you listen to brass bands, when the people who carry the melodie play, the tuba player supports the melodie by playing to where the ensemble will be full and not overpowering them. When its his time to shine he'll let loose but when playin with the rest of the ensemble he is felt not heard

  • Enough on this topic already....when I listens to songs in MY car I hear a bass line and the melody along with other background instrumentation. Simply put...the tubas don't have enough volume to compete with the sound from the brass. Not about being felt or heard...they are just simply being drowned out and your example didn't help one bit...thanks

  • dude i tottaly understood the example yu didnt b/c yur a hater

  • Thank u lol i dont kno any other way to break it down to this dude

  • lol

  • wat school u from, i played in lli 04-05, and crabbed at the U

  • wat tuba section did u play for?????

  • all those horns are broke, except two cause they're new. we have the same horns that are in the "74 clips

  • WHAT HAPPEND TO THE BASSES

  • they been lacking!!

  • Im sorry. The intelligence in me won't allow me to validate your words or anything that'll excuse the reason why you don't use periods.

Like I said....TOP ain't ever been weak. And, Im willing to put that up against whatever band you represent or like.

  • like in every song that su plays the trombones are either weak or they dont crank or they only got chords for some reason

  • its not that we are weak..........they carry the bottom of the song

  • wow...

Why would trombones take over the band...??

In all my years of playing trombone... We've always had chords thats what we are for... whether it be Jazz, Concert, Marches, whatever... we play chords... everyone has a specific job on their horn... if we dont play chords.. who will??

  • lol yea we do play chords but in every song........no exactly atleast in some songs we suppose to get the melody and no they dont suppose to take over the band but they should have a stong bottom.

  • they do provide a strong bottom... Have u seen the foundation of a house?? Does it take up half the house... Or do it give just enough support?

    but anyway....

We did have songs where we have the melody.. Im guessing you dont watch us often...

  • Yea SU bones are weak. I played Bone for A&T 2002-2004...and they were weak when we played them...-Chan

  • Sounds like you don't know what you're talking about. And, by your sentence structure...it doesn't look like you're willing to come off that notion.

Anyway...SU tbones ain't ever been weak. Keep that noise.

  • Well in this song they was so it dosnt matter what you say its in the song you listened to it as well as I so you kill the noise.

  • SU tbones are not weak, but they are not as strong as they used to be. I remember in the mid 80s the tbone sound was much thicker. I remember counting like 50 - 60 one year. Sound was ridiculous. The tbones are still good, but everybody knows today it's SUs btones that you don't want to play with.

  • su never had 50-60 bones,,i know i marched in the 80's,,85 was the largest ever,,40+,,but they are still bringing it the same way till this day, with 35+

  • This is a very entertaining band. It don't have to be a football game to enjoy this human jukebox .

  • i like this version this is the best ive heard it

  • I love when people hate on SU, it just shows that they Envy. Suck it up, and go teach your band how to be as good. We still love you though, now go cry in the car.

  • Um, this sounds great. God only knows what you haterade sucking kats are talking about. Pitiful. Frankly I prefer this arrangement to the one they played in the early 90's(or was it late 80's?).

  • Our drum section is felt not heard genius. unless we are playing a cadence, Why would we try to play louder than the rest of the band band?

  • smart way to put it dickie....

    Randell, Lafayette '05 crab

  • ya mamma suck if ya think anything about tha "S" suck bitch

  • this version sucks

  • i agree

  • Who the hell said this sounded better then nsu! I hate SU's tuba section and drumline who suppose to be the backbone of the band! If you dont have a good rhythm section ur band is not good! Built from the bottom up not top down! Never seen or heard of a house being built other wise!

  • I don't go to SU and don't even like em but I was in another swac band. Anyway though, they version still sound better than NSU isht anyday. You talk about you can't builda band from top down? Well buddy thats how we do in the SWAC. Originality and defying the odds ya dig. Get wit it chump.

  • lol really? so you must be speaking for your band...with your inverted pyramid

  • have you ever heard static on a radio, when you can kind of hear a song?

    This sound precisely like that...

  • LOL very accurate description...

  • Garbage???lol you need to have your head and ears checked!

  • thats awesum esp when theres so many people. i dont think our marching band was that large.. but great job!

  • I luv this song!!!

  • DAMN DEY KILLIN' IT! LOVE THIS SONG!

  • WOW!!! I love it!

  • i luv dis selection...marching jukebox wat that is
