Guys, there has been some bad stuff said about the Prius. I drove it and liked it. Sure, 136 PS total drive system power isn't exactly mindblowing. Sure, diesels got similar mileage a billion years ago. Sure, it isn't cheap either. But still, in its own special way, it feels awesome and unique. And when you can do 1397 MILES per SMALL tank (a special economy drive done by Mr. Gerdes) in a petrol engined 136 PS car, it's great! E.g. I hate diesel. The bottom line is the money the prius saves you in gas does not make up for the extra price of the car. Even if you put 30k a year on it, the saving in gas still wont make up for it.
They still use as much fuel as a diesel engine, yet their are underpower and it does generate more polution in order to be built compared to any normal car. In other words, it is more economical and eviromentally friendly to buy a used car than a hybrid.

the VW Golf Bluemotion is a much better car anyway and does more mpg without being a hybrid, so id get one of those, shame they dont sell it in the USA. I think if there were the diesel options that are available in Europe, the Prius wouldn't sell nearly as well. It's a lot more popular in the US than Europe because of that. In most countries in Europe diesel is cheaper, plus diesels are cheaper to buy than hybrids.

The Nickel in the battery only weighs around 25lbs. Shipping by cargo ship is the most efficient way of moving goods around the world, and for that weight it is trivial cost. Finally Prius has way better MPG than Jetta.

Check out the VW TDI (Turbo-Diesel), the 08 and 09's get over 60mpg with the record being at 68.8mpg last I checked.
Turbo-diesels got more torque and are much quicker off the line and more fun with a manual trans. : )

E as in empty gas tank and MPGs as in miles-per-gallon. He's saying his car won't run out of gas because of its great fuel economy.

haha thats great! prius is horrible and way to overated. my dad works for gm and he drove one for research and he said wen u try to change it from drive to reverse the computer gets messed up and has to restart itself and that its a dog. my dad brought home a 2 mode hybrid View and that thing would screech the tires and still get 30mpg city

What do you mean the Prius gets better MPG than the Jetta. 58MPG>51MPG (prius) Most Prius that I see are also doing 80 on the freeway, negating their hybrid system.

Too bad that the prius does more total environmental damage than a Range Rover Sport or most other SUVs. Mining all the material for the batteries and shipping all of it across the globe in huge Diesel tankers.
VW jetta makes better MPG than a Prius anyways, and you don't look like a douche

Repeating discredited myths is easy, nothing you said is true.. Environmental damage story has been discredited many years ago (google Pacific Institute Prius) Mining nickel is far less damaging now than it used to be 30 years ago when all the damange was done. The Nickel in the battery only weighs around 25lbs. Shipping by cargo ship is the most efficient way of moving goods around the world, and for that weight it is trivial cost. Finally Prius has way better MPG than Jetta.
