i had it done and i was in so much pain the worst is the two week period that was like going through labor cause the damn thing was coming out! no more fucking IUDs for me screw that
I just got Mirena a month ago. I have a high pain tolerance but the insertion was unlike any pain I have ever felt! The insertion was very painful but only last for a few seconds. It is worth the few seconds of pain for five years of hassle free birth control!
I've had my mirena in for 5 years now. Its due for removal next month. I've never had any problems what so ever. It didn't hurt putting it in. I never had cramps with it and best of all. I stopped having a period! I'm going to get another put in when this one gets taken out. I can't take pills, they make me gain weight, bitch and feel like crap... and I can't ever remember to take them. I love my iud.
I got my IUD about 3 months ago and it was the most god awful pain I've ever felt. The doc told me the cramps you have when the insert it and after are actually contractions. Back contractions. I curled into the fetal position for about five days and moaned. There were a few tears. When they did it, it hurt so bad I almost threw up. It's ridiculous. After about 2 months the really awful cramps went away. Periods still give me worse cramps then before. Still think it was worth it. Surprisingly:P
I have had the Mirena for almost 2 years now and yall are so lucky that yall havent developed the symptoms i have. My ovaries give me problems all the time now, i have vaginal bleeding even though my periods stopped, im always exhausted and i have gained weight. Good luck to the ones who do not experience these.
Because hormonal birth control causes problems for many women. Problems such as blood clots are common. My girlfriend got a copper IUD because she developed a hepatic adenoma (benign liver tumor) because of birth control pills. She has to a have a lathroscopic liver resection (where they remove 40% of her liver) because the tumor stands a good chance of metastasizing in the future.
yup shit hurts. i got the mirena iud 2 days ago. i HAD a baby 10 weeks ago. my bf's hand was purple. it hurt so bad. and the first one fell out immediately after it was inserted so i had to go through the process TWICE. im still in pain
I remember the lady who told me to get this done said to me there was no pain at all, just a pulling sensation for three seconds and that was it. Fucking lying bitch!
you handled it better than i did.. i had to have mine removed after only 10 minutes. the pain was unbearable. now i understand why they don't suggest it for women who haven't had kids O_O
@ginger93xo You can still get one, find a different ob gyn. Request medication to soften your cervix & plan your appointment for mid cycle when your cervix is naturally softened. The doc can use a tenaculum & help dilate more if necessary. I had my Mirena put in last week and the doctor I had was great- took him 1 minute & I have never had children & also have a retroverted uterus, which makes insertion more difficult & painful. The worst pain ever, but now I am covered until 2018! Very happy!!
I'm going to the doctors tomorrow morning, do you think this would be the best form of birth control besides the tube that goes under your arm? That one stays there for 3 years! I
@Yeliah92: This is an awesome video. Thanks for posting it. You were way tougher than I was the first time I *tried* to get one. That was way cool of the clinic and your friends to cooperate. Love your look too! And I know it hurts far worse than any of those piercings!
Im a big wossy when it comes to pain and ive had the mirena coil twice it doesn't hurt just cramping pain as they measure the womb and then when they insert the coil but the pain goes away instantly! i would reccomend the coil its not bad 5mins of cramp for either 5 or 10years worry free sex within reason as the coil dont protect std's.
My girlfriend had the mirena put in and she said it hurt like hell! Almost as bad as when she was having contractions with our first child. The paraguard is probably a little more painful but more effective but the mirena has bad side effects (hair fallinf out, heart palpitations, pain, and bleeding..)
i'm getting mine put in on the 17th of march ... bit scared since i've never even had a smear and im 16 but there doesnt seem to be any other option to control my horrendous menstrual pattern its proper ruining my day to day life so i just hope nothing goes wrong lol btw how long did yours take ? :]
honestly it doesnt hurt that bad!!!! it feels just like a period cramp. got it when i was 18 and ive never been pregnant nor sexually active. maybe i just have a VERY high pain tolerance because of my endometriosis. i WISH i has mirena IUD insertion cramps monthly. its NOTHING compared to my period cramps lol
LOL i can't believe you recorded this! that's awesome. i know how you feel, it hurt for me too. afterwards it felt funny to walk, i was so scared i was gonna move it lol. i sat on my ass for like 2 days ahahah. it's great now tho! barely a monthly flow, it is soooo light. no cramps but i feel awkward sometimes during sex. i'm scared my hubby is gonna move it lmfao !
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh MUMMY PLZ NO NO IT LOOKS LIKE ITS HURTING LIKE HELL I M GONNA GET MINE ON THIS TUESDAY I FEEL LIKE CRYING AND NOW M WORRIED WAT TO DO?
yes it does really hurt> i almost passed out when i got mine done, lots of people actually do. its not as natural as childbirth as your cervix hasnt dilated, something is being forced into it and your uterus can spasm in return which kills!!! dont talk about something you know nothing about. it is the worst pain ever!
you think thats bad mine moved and i had to get it removed by the time i got to see the dr it had bent into like a J shape , now thats painful lol , but 2nd time round hardly hurt at all lol
@yeliah92 I agree. I got it done and I experienced a lot of discomfort. However, I think the pain I get when I do get my period now with it in, is a lot worse. haha.
@Jahkillian Yes it hurts! I couldn't even tolerate the measuring device, and that was on Valium. I screamed and begged them to get everything out. I'm trying again (it's 2 years later now), this time on more Valium and using Cytotec to "soften" the cervix.

@Jahkillian I had mine inserted a year ago. Yes. It does hurt that bad. Imagine a thick pencil inserted into your penis and scraping the inside with little metal and plastic pieces.
I had my done onmy birthday july 20th and it wasent dat bad am glad i had my done cuz i already have ah 1year old and ah 3year old NO MORE BABYS FOR ME LOL naw me and my husband can do it with out any worries lol but its nat dat bad i didnt even felt it am sooo glad
@sexymama123407 My doc said it would hurt worse for me since I have had no children, so it deff was worth the pain tho I mean this is one of the best birth controles out there so any small pain on my part is worth the pain of not being ready for a child
@sexymama123407 u have kids before having it. I had a c section with my daughter so my cervix never stretched. It was extremly painful and I cramped and felt like I was in labor for about a month.
first time I ever had one done it hurt soooo much it reduced me to tears!!! i thought my insides were being torn!! 5 years on it had to be changed yesterday, this time altho it was painful nowhere near like the pain I had the first time!! Although painful proceedure I would recommend it!!
funny, mine didn't hurt at all when they put it in, I couldn't even feel it. But then like 15 mins after it was in I had like the worst cramps of my life for about 30 minutes.
It does hurt a lot to have it put in, especially if you haven't had any kids. Out of 10-15 minutes it took, I had 8/10 pain for probably 2 mins, then cramping (pretty bad) for 12hrs afterward. Now, a day later, it's not bothering me anymore. Ibuprofen and walking around helps. I also read that hydrating well and breathing decreases the pain.
I think everyone should have one inserted before having kids - just so they are forewarned what it feels like to have your cervix dilated!
