  • And Adams was also an Asperger's sufferer, a condition which caused him to have great difficulty organising his ideas, writing in prose and working with others. A combination of these factors resulted in the British being unable to locate the planet first. Airy did not dismiss Adams as an upstart, but in fact requested for clarification of his calculations. Adams failed to respond to this request, probably due to his affliction, which is why the search for the 8th planet didn't begin sooner.

  • Wasn't it Airy's 1832 paper "Report on the Progress of Astronomy" that Adams came across in a Cambridge bookstore that originally sparked his interest in the irregularities of Uranus?
