I know and I saw all of latest documentary about you.
you are awesome .. korean super power smart !! ( I can help some people about it ..becuz I saw all of documentary .. you know what korea's documentary ? it is real awesome..)
I remember seeing this video for the first time in 1997 from a somewhat unlikely source--a program on US MTV called "Amp" , and was one of the last good programs American MTV ever produced :-( ..
FYI, Amp was a show that featured music videos from the genre of electronic dance music (aka "electronica"), but once they slightly broke from form and aired something more in the vein of art, this video.
I really dug this when I saw it, having been previously (and still) a fan of NJP and his work..!
I like from 2:30 to 2:50 - I think that's the kernel of interest here. It transitions between the keyboardist's expressions - now breaking into smile, then suddenly dead serious in white outline - with the trancelike effects. I think that jarringness mixed with the entrancing repetition matches the music. That's not to say I like all of it, though. I think the introduction is more about the effects themselves and less about experimentation with them, which is obnoxious to watch in my opinion.
Mr. Paik told himself art is bs. It is bs if you want to look at it that way. It is aethetically appealing and entertaing. May be it doesn't get into your heart? To me, it gets into somewhere between head and heart, and I think that is very modern.
He had it easy he had no competition back then...problem?
