when i was at art college in 91 a pal had this on tape but it had been recorded at fast speed! noone knew what it was but i took the tape to parties and it was loved. years later an ex dj i mentioned it to knew it, had it and gave me the single, with insert. its my prized single, even at normal speed
And there was a time when she would walk outside, forwards, but it never happened when anyone was watching; so she never really felt like it had happened at all.
@DavidQuantick God some people will take offence at anything. For fuck's sake IT'S NONSENSE, getting offended by this is like getting offended at Monty Python or something! And what exactly is patronising about nit? Are you sure you know what that means?
@rabbitpi Um, calm down there harry. No-one said I was offended. I happen to love this song, am really pleased the man put it up, and was simply correcting a minor mistake. take a chill pill.
I don't know how old i was when i first heard this, but i remember where i was. On a family holiday in The Mumbles, in a chalet, with the family playing cards one night listening to Peel. I finally found the cd last year and play it often.
I love this but like baboon Climbs The Mountain better:)
Haha David you FUCKING LEGEND! we smashed it that night and even if we did turn in to monster munch :p this was the nuts! Dad you are a legend..... welldonedave You ROCK! xxx
I loved this song, John peel kept me awake till midnight everynight listening to him, often made me late for my morning paper round, but hey that's life. apologies to the people who didn't get there morning paper, but John Peel was more important than you!
Yes, the Hipsters were a big fave of Peel; I remember hearing him play "Playfully hurt me" by the Native Hipsters all those years ago and being totally knocked out by them!!!
First heard this on Indie City a 2 cassette set compilation - the lead vocalist (can't think of her name) later found fame as a TV presenter - God buggeringly brilliant if you ask me.File under "Songs people who liked O superman also liked".
this is what happens when you give a woman acid and a keyboard

FYI, they're actually called "And the Native Hipsters", not "The Native Hipsters".

still play this in my head when i look through net curtains. Pure coincidence? or just a weird-and-wonderful-on-a-loop record? Thank you Mr Peel.

Sheer brilliance. This was played a lot on 3RRR-FM Melbourne around 1981- Kirsty Grant's show, from memory.

Mind warping stuff. Peel played this a lot around May/June 1981.

I was in a record shop in Charing Cross Rd and this was playing.
I asked the guy at the till what on earth it was and he said it was his band and did I want to buy it.
I listened a bit more and bought it.
