@ladykatemacca It looks like for the entire time the band was active, that their drummer was Dino Danelli. He has a wiki page. I agree, fine percussion here.
Whow ! Whow...this was one of my favourite songs when i was 12 years old- living on a farm..listening on my fm radio...dreaming of a beautiful world out there to explore.Thankyou SO much for posting this and triggering those fond childhood memories!
@stonearch8 No say that. With age comes wisdom. I someitmes wish today's Kids could have the "Simple" things that we now take for granted. A time with no Computers, Cell Phones, Text Messaging, Internet. Whatever happened to an Old Fahsoined Letter or a Card, I was only One in 1967 but it seemed to be a fun time.
Hah, I was 8 and I remember hearing this song. I think my Dad had it on his reel to reel tape. His music was mostly Beatles, Stones, etc. and some Buddy Holly so this stood out. B-)
@mcp666 I first heard them when I saw The Big Chill when they played "Good Lovin'" when Sam and his College Sweetheart went to the Store for Groceries. I also remembered hearing "It's A Beautiful Morning" on The Soap Opera All My Children when Liza and Jake Martin #3 spent a Day together in The Park in the Fall. I used to confuse this group with Tommy James & The Shondells "Crystal Blue Persuasion" because it sounded so much like them. Your Dad has "Good Taste" in music too.
@cruhnk I believe the footage was made for the song but it cut off half way through so I added some extra footage (peacocks, sunflowers, etc.) and looped a few bits. I think it came out OK.
Wow, come to think of it, hate to sound bad, but I'm pretty sure more than 1/2 the reason why this world is so just DOWN....Is because ONLY 559,000 have seen this...when an uneducated, untalented individual, such as Gucci Mane (sorry if you all don't know who this is...) has 49,000,000 views...wow :( ....Have a good day everyone : ^ )
yep..everybody thought the line was "You & Me and LESLIE"...only to find out later it was "Life would be ecstasy, you and me ENDLESSLY.." which was kinda disappointing because I always preferred the "Leslie" thing because I always liked the name...either way, it's still a timeless 60's song :)
One of my hometown bands that made it to the world stage and became legends...ironically, even though I'm from NJ like the band, I saw them for the first time in concert @ The Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa in May of 1968 where my family lived at the time. "Groovin'" , their timeless classic from the previous year brings back beautiful memories of the Jersey Shore when I was a kid. Long Live Felix Cavaliere ^5 :)
This song makes me think about sitting on a porch with a pitcher of lemonade thinking back on my childhood when we had the baddest jams (60's and 70's) you could listen to. Classic Jams !!!
I love and miss you guys so much; you were part of the many artists who not only contributed to my musical growth and enjoyment back when I was a teenager, but who helped me to simply mentally and emotionally survive the young years of "life." Wherever you are, thank you, and I pray that you are living lives of happiness, fulfillment and prosperity; if not here on this earth, then certainly in "Rock & Roll Heaven!" LOVE 60'S/70'S MUSIC! ~Dean from Abilene
reminds me of when me and my mates used to meet a frankly services,I used to put this and P P arnold on the juke box, scooters and mini's and our lives ahead, happy days
@lunasco23 I think the lyrics he's singing are "life would be ecstacy, you and me endlessly groovin," not "you and me and Leslie". I do admit though that when this song first came out on the radio I thought it was Leslie too! :-)
@wickedlittlethings LOL that's because we heard it on am radio with THE worst speakers in the world on either our transistor radio or on our car radio. When I hear these songs today & get the right lyrics I laugh so hard.
There were TWO slightly different harmonica backgrounds in the "mono" and "stereo" mixes of the song- this is the 45rpm mono "hit" version, released in April 1967. When the "Groovin'" album was released that July, a different stereo mix {with a variation on the harmonica} was used,
@hartleycwhite I was 18 yrs old when this song came out. It brought a happy calmness to me when I was in Vietnam. Too bad time has gone by so fast. I hope you and others have the same feelings as I did.
68 in old bridge nj,drinking schaefer we borrowed{lol} from our neighbors basement, while sitting in my bros 50 chevy.wish we could go back to those days RIP big brother, miss u
But why MrFisherman? What's autumnal about a harmonica? It just doesn't make sense. If harmonicas fell off trees in the fall, well maybe I'd be prepared to accept your shaky logic.
this song reminds me when sundays was all about the radio and pirate ships playing songs that meant something ,not like the Rap now, never did find out if Leslie was a boy or girl ?

Another song from my faraway youth, Riding our bikes to the ball field to play a pick-up game with the kids from downtown. We all listened to this on a cheap transsistor radio. They were of kids of color (which we were not allowed to be with, and they with us). We would sit in the dugout drinking pop and talking about our bad play on the diamond. I'm 53 now and miss them all.
These guys place in pop history is assured for this one great tune. The fact they did so many other special songs like People Got to Be Free, A Beautiful Morning and A Girl Like You make the Rascals just one of my favorites of all times
Man, this song - every time I hear it, I go right back to Golden Gate Park, Mission Dolores, Eureka Valley and hanging out - doing what we did in the 60's and wow! groovy...
AAAhh! I love this music from a period of my "Groovin´ life. The music is incredible good and goes through my ears straight to my heart. In the mid 60s it was also cool to "try to find" unknown great band. One of my favorites during this period was THE ZETTLERS. Check up their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". Amazingly good and with a bloody drive.
Great video and what a great tune! While the Beatles were our first influence, we were very heavily influenced by the Rascals as were many other bands throughout the world. They were fabulous musicians and their music will live on forever.
For some reason this song reminds me of fall just when things are starting to get cold and leaves are falling off the trees. it must be the harmonica : )

The Young Rascals... Another New Jersey addition to the music world. However, this cutting edge group grew from being the Young Rascals to simply "Yhe Rascals". I know many of today's "Baby Boomers" found their beginnings trace back to a warm summer night and Cousin Brucie playing "Groovin" on the radio!
I remember listening to this in the summer of '67... I was a kid of 11 years, but I like to think that I knew a good song when I heard it. Happy days.
What memories this song brings to me! My fav cousin passed away July 11, 2011 and SHE taught me to embrace GOOD music, all kinds and I just appreciate her so much for having taiugh me the right way to love music (my brother too) Miss u Roz!
@xdrfox Sweeping it under the rug deprives this generation of the knowledge of that generation's sacrifice. If the music, such as Groovin' , brings back a flood of memories, maybe some of those memories will recall all who served in that war. Cool thing about a classic song such a this, even the darkest memories are brightened by the pure crystaline beauty a song such as this. Maybe those times were needed as a backdrop for classic cuts such as this. I'll never forget themeitherl. 60's Pop Rules

Whenever I hear this song it's summer 1967 and I'm looking out my kitchen window in my 4th floor apt. in the Bronx at the people groovin' down a crowded avenue. *sigh...*
@JayBlahs Another sentiment expressed,of a youth who tells it like it is. I am glad I was born in the decade of the 1960s. Music from that era is non-pareil in class, taste and quality.
@xdrfox I was making enemies in my 9th grade history class calling Nixon out on the late withdrawal, I've been your champion all along. I don't know how the world has swept the darkest chapter of US history under the rug, it's a goddamn shame. I hope you're OK, many are not, a part of me is always with you.
Better then many, survival is based on truth not lies, so the road has mostly been lonely, but I think you know that too ! Keep up the good work, we don't need to keep going down roads of lies !
bigomamma, singing was absolutely the point. Any tune that made you hum and sway was worth it"s weight in gold. I too was a young lad when this was on the charts. I loved it then, and loved it more as I got older. Even as I became aware what it was really about, it changed nothing. The fun became the subtleness. Your point exactly. When it became apparent that the music could fake out mom and dad, it became even better. Childhood days with an edge!
one of my favorite songs of all time it was great when it was new and still great

Happy days.

A song that has stood the test of time. Still sounds good today as it did back then. Love, love, love the Rascals!

It's nice to know that a lot of White musicians and artists actually appreciated soul music back then...especially in Europe!

I'm a lover of this kind of old music. I've known the words to most of all my favorites since I was a kid.

@JayBlahs Another sentiment expressed,of a youth who tells it like it is. I am glad I was born in the decade of the 1960s. Music from that era is non-pareil in class, taste and quality.

I rediscovered this band in the last years ,surely one of the best white soul-blues band of the 60ies! tks brigati-cavaliere!

These guys could have been the next Beatles except with more soul... what happened? Did they refuse to sign "the contract"?
Good job, they attained immortality on their own terms.
