I'm playing this now, and It's one of my favourite compositions ever.
In my head, the first part is some sort of a good dream, but than it cames the nightmare, but than you fall in the same dream you've made in the beginning.
I just love it!
p.s.- I'm so nervous! I'm gonna play this in my 5th grade exam in may!
Your playing is excellent. Lovely melody line and very effective use of pedal; not overdone. I teach and given my student your interpretation as the benchmark.
composed in 1827 by the austrian genius Franz Schubert, these series of impromptus D.935 as well as the other group D.899 are just a few of the many examples why Schubert was one of the best composers for piano, just to think on his many lieder would be enough to give him the place in musical history he deserves among the inmortals, now if you add his 9 symphonies, the ave maria, serenade, his masses......... a true genius
i agree with Orientexpression- this song will always remind of the beautiful movie ''four minutes''. For all of those who havent seen the movie, go see it! its sooo great! =]
This is a beautiful performance -- I do think the tempo for the first theme is slightly faster than ideal, but otherwise, Mr. Katz has completely captured the wonderful combination of fantasy and simplicity that makes this piece so special -- he also makes a point of demonstrating the wonderful harmonic development of the end of the main theme. Wonderful playing!
Sorry for my last comment.. My stupid friend beside me posted it. I am not 15 years old.. I am 17.. I think this is beautiful played.
I do, though, dislike this interpretation. I think the first part is too fast (so my friend guessed that right..) and the second parto too slow. Then i also think that many of the tones should've been played with more force or with less.
Anyway, im not the player, and i can see the passion he puts in it, wich is the most important..
I will be doing this piece for my lvl 8 CM exam and I am so happy I can find a wonderful interpretation to listen to. Absolutely fantastic and keep up the great work.
This is absolutely beautiful playing, especially you emotional connection to the music. Great touch, tone and tempo. I noticed your bold move to not play the repeat. Brendel is the only pianist I have heard do that. Nice work!
why is it important to play the repeats? my teacher always told me not to play the repeats during my exam due to the lack of time.. but should you play the repeats?
lilpuppy430, Brendel is the only pianist I have ever heard not play the repeats. He claims that you can get away with it in some Schubert but never in Beethoven. Considering time in an exam, your teacher may be correct. After hearing this piece a million times I actually like skipping the repeats of the theme. All the best to you.
(But could someone please tell the camera to stay on Amir Katz's hands - you know, those two things with five fingers each that actually play on the piano - instead of wandering around: it makes me seasick!)
I would like to add that, in spite of the irritation about the camera work expressed above, to be just, I must also express my gratitude to the person who, out of love for music in general and admiration for Mr. Katz's virtuosity in particular, has bothered to film him and put the video on youtube, so that crabby me, and many others music lovers, can share Mr. Katz's art.
Alguien sabe de que curso es esta cancion¿?

I'm currently learning this on piano, and this is the best version I've found on YouTube to help me out, so thank you very much - I appreciate it. :)

this version grew on me. it's unsentimental, direct and very uptempo - kinda modern and without the Viennese pathos.
