to me Deathspell Omega pretty much defines everything I hate on modern BM. but it sure as hell cant diminish the glory of this song. hell, sole reason I bought this album was this song.
prog deppresive black metal i can feel the deppresion in this music very powerful man i kinda got a tear listening to it very very dark and depressing
I ordered 2 or 3 Deathspell Omega albums from HMV and they took 9 months to arrive. I wasn't in town the week they arrived so they took them off hold and sold them.
fantastic! anyone who says there isn t emotion in black metal has probably never listened to a good black metal band. there are a few bands which make the difference: dodheimsgard, ved buens ende, rotting christ, aura noir. these are also bands which have tried a different approach to this kind of music. real artists.
These comments are comedic gold. 15 ROFLHAMMERS OF LAUGHTER. This song kills, I can't tell what the silly kids at the bottom are whining about, but they'd better be careful they don't let their corpsepaint smear when the tears start flowing.
Goddammit, it's like a fucking essay looking down the comments.
-_- Every album is a sellout album to someone as soon as the band does SOMETHING new...
"They added acoustic guitars! They dubbed over with another guitar! the vox aren't the same! SELLOUTS! Why don't you favour my personal taste over your own creativity!!"
It's been that way since popular music has existed... and clearly has no intention of going away..
@GreatBigSlide If DSO is a sellout, Music is dead!!! Between them and BAN (Blut Aus Nord) They have pushed the envelope of Black Metal to the edge. Some people just don't get it. The music isn't for us......
Black metal will never be mainstream. Of course is not an ideology, its just kick ass music, thats what it matters. And to that DeathcoreIsNotMetal guy. Your name cannot be more true, but unless Black Metal starts to rap and use Dj Samples or emo vox, I will never consider it "sell out"
I would advise you all to know what you are talking about... Know what is Black Metal. Know what it represents then only talk about it... Your comments make me sick... May you all be blessed by The Suicide Curse!
DeathcoreIsNotMetal: you do not have a monopoly on the black metal genre, therefore you are in no position to declare what is "true" and what isn't. The same goes to every black metal fan. All you're doing is making a vapid cunt out of yourself. Black metal is a loosely defined sound. Not an ideology. If it was an ideology, it would be unified, rather than multiple groups each clinging to a specific ideology.
It seems if Black metal doesnt sound like something off the deathcrush album it cant be black metal. This is music for fuck sakes, its not all supposed to sound exactly the same. All the Black metal Elitists out there that think they are special because they own a few rare albums and have gobbled up every fact about a few low quality bands should put their money where there mouth is and kill yourself in some ultimate suicide of glory if they have to be that serious about a genre.
@TheDestroyingAngel meta let me say it is simply "YOUR" ideaology it is that when genres formed they formed over 1 idea, black anti religious and death is violence, and power is fantasy, and etc. Although now it is beggining to change i have heard Deathmetal love songs now, brutal as hell yet it makes me cry LOL.
Also, I would rather be part of a scene full of faggoths than a bunch of mongoloids that brag about how they're going to out kvlt each other (essentially a dick measuring contest). It's flat out moronic how any sign of innovation or creativity is attacked by the black metal community.
I do agree that Burzum sucks. I don't think Varg "sold out", as that implies he was at one point "true" to the genre. He was an attention whore from the start.
What I find hilarious is all of the pseudo-intellectualism and pretentiousness in the black metal scene, and all of the retarded people complaining about how x band has more than 4 fans, so therefore they're sellouts. Combine that with hostile reactions towards anything that doesn't rip off of Darkthrone's Transilvanian Hunger.
Sticking to the same "tried and true" formula is fucking boring, and only leads to stagnation within the music scene.
I agree with deathcoreisnotmetal. True BM will never be popular. It will never be the "peoples" music with a huge fan-base. If you "think" you relate to it, you probably don't. BM isn't a scene or a genre. It's an ideology, an expression of art in the darkest sense. Polished production and endorsement deals to attract more people render the effort null. True BM is repellent to the average joe. There will always be a difference between flirting with BM and belonging to it.
True. Gnaw their Tongues and I Shalt Become are good ambient bands, and Nachtmystium and Wolves in the Throne Room put to use some ambient sounds. Check out Judas Iscariot, Horna, Circle of Ouroboros, Dead Reptile Shrine, Caina for some not so average BM. Oh and Check out Rwake's Voices of Omens.
Underground bm, right here is what your looking for lol, I Shalt Become, M8L8TH, Nyktalgia, Sargeist, Clandestine Blaze, Graveland, Limbonic Art, Ancient Rites, Satanic Warmaster, Taake, Necros Christos, Arkhon Infaustus, Mutiilation, Bilskirnir...Those are the ones I can think of atm, but as far as underground I wouldn't classify half of these as underground =/ still a good listen for sure.
yeah definetly. It's a shame how seemingly mainstream black metal is becoming. Gorgoroth has over 1.7Millions veiws, Mayhem has over 1 Million, Burzum 100K+ and so on. It's a shame so many bands have to sellout...
How the fuck is that selling out? Selling out means turning pop so that more people buy your albums. What do you expect Burzum to do? Say "no sorry, not selling any more". I'm sure you'd do that wouldn't you? You're so true.
Burzum is a sellout. Thumbs down me all you want, but Burzum sucks. It has been suspected that one of the reason Varg did the church burning was to gain publicity, ALONG with anyother personal reasons he had. He constantly had interveiw after interveiw to become more popular. Satyricon is another example of a sellout. They had a breakdown in their newest album... If you still think they didn't sell out, you're sad
bullshit! Ur just sad cos so many other kids like what u like when u thought u were underground evil and cool. Ur not, ur just another dude with a black t-shirt that digs music and theres billions of us. And none of these bads are millionaires with money to burn who have compromised their music in search of it. If u cahnge ur direction thats ur artist perogative.
is their something wrong with not wanting to have scene's, mallgoths, and other idiots listening to black metal? My apologies for not wanting black metal bands to be the next slipknot.
when is getting popular selling out? None of these bands have millions of dollars for fuck around with. Compromising your music in exchange for cash is selling out. None of the bands you mentioned have done that cos none of them are mega rich cunts. BM is still reletively low on the $ INCOME REGISTER. I would want as many people listening to my music as possible, nothing wrong with that...changing the music in exchange for big dollars would make me a sell out.
Satyricon had a breakdown in their last album, that's compromising their music for money. Their marketing it towards kids, and you obviously are to dull to see that. Gorgoroth too. They havent made a good album in years, and now they're going on tour with Dimmu Borgir, and Cradle of filth. Second, I'm 23, so I'm not really a kid? Good try though. And no, I dont want a bunch of stupid kids listening to BM. do you have a problem with that?
I don't want to get in this, because it's dead, but correct me if I am wrong, which I may or may not be, but Gorgoroth, with Infernus, supported Cradle Of Filth when they first began. Excuse me if I pretentiously said anything wrong, all I know for sure is that previously when Gorgoroth was "trve kvlt", they supported Cradle Of Filth.
I just discovered Si Monumentum... and think it's pretty good. I'm not philosophical or into satanism or theologism but I can see their striking merits behind an album such as that
Tough call. I like both. I started off on Si Momnumentum/onward..fell back on earlier stuff like this later and actually prefer it to the newer works. Not discrediting the newer material in any way..they're definitely taking black metal to a new extreme/level.
