@rjake61 You are correct. It also says LAP on the front of the box. It stands for "Light Armor Piercing", so I am guessing that they are "Armor Piercing", but not held to actual stantards.
i have an plane jane a2 upper. no optics. I use the army's method of zeroing. so its a 36/300m zero. shoot point of aim/point of impact at 25 meters with your rear windage drum at 8/3+1 ( or 6/3+2 if youre using a detachable carry handle)
@Alldickedup Sounds like you really know what to do when it comes to sighting in your weapons. Until recently Ive only sighted in long guns, but when my optics came in the other day, I was finally able to do it for my AR.
@Alldickedup I liked my iron sights for awhile, but weve been having more and more pigs come onto our land. Sitting on the porch in the evening is nice down here, so its easy to shoot pigs from the porch.
@Alldickedup You are right about that. Where I currently live, it is actually harder do kill a pig than it is when Im down in South Texas where the rest of my family lives. I took a pig the other day down there and it took one shot to the chest but when I came home, it took 4 shots to do the same thing on a pig that was pretty much the same weight/size.
honestly, most difference youll see if you use 55gr is about 4 inches. and thats after 200m roughy. of course this is irrelevant if youre using something other than the 25m zero. as long as you can hit what youre aiming at
theyre painted green to differentiate between the 55gr m193 and the 62gr m855. when the us army moved from the m16a1 to the m16a2 they noticed that the m16a1 failed the stabilize the heavier 62 gr round because of the slower rifling twist. if you shoot 62gr ammo through a barrel with a twist of 1/12 accuracy gets pretty shitty. so its pretty much just a way to tell at a glance what you have in your magazine.
@Alldickedup That is good to know. I didn't realize that they had a problem when they made the change to the m16a2. Which bullet do you prefer to shoot. 55gr or 62gr? Thanks for the post!!
The 62g X-Tac is an LAP bullet according to PMC's site.

@WestTexasGunGuy Like everything in life, its all about preference. As long as you enjoy your setup. How does 5.56 do against pigs?

@WestTexasGunGuy were they both shot with xtac?

@Alldickedup They were. I was using the 55gr. Xtac. Personally, I think the hogs up here are a little meaner.

@Alldickedup Oh alright, what optics do you use on your AR? Also, what do you have your sights sighted in at?
WestTexasGunGuy 2 months ago
62gr, is what most a2 sights are designed to work with. especially if youre doing the 25yrd battle zero

@Alldickedup Interesting. I usually use these 62gr. when Im hog hunting, but use regular 55gr. when I am at the range.
