  • WOW!!!!!!

  • Seen a hundred times... and still as neat as ever.

  • One of the greatest improvisers of our time! I remember Kenny..

  • i wonder if anyone has transposed this solo?

  • Giant Steps' such a magic tune... It always brings joy! I always have goosebumps when I think how great John was and still is... An absolutely wonderful solo by Kenny too on a very hard song.. All those changes... I learned them as a bass player...

  • I've been practicing this one for a while. I was soloing on the chords but i hate when it goes to the F# major it sounds like i'm really being dragged around from one chord to the other. I listened again here and notice that it sounds like kenny kirkland is really just soloing on 1 exotic scale for the whole song. Am i right ? if so what kind of scale is it ?

  • @steflova2 it never goes to the f#major........

  • @phanioma pardon me -- i typed too fast . I believe I meant the the ii-V-I that goes from C# to F# to B - maybe you call the chords flats. --- but i fixed the problem. I just use less notes so the tonal center doesn't sound too far away from the 'tonal center' that i'm playing in. Hey -- by any chance did anyone identify any special scales that Kenny Kirkland is using. or is just using the same old major scales and just choosing some nice notes ?

  • @steflova2 mostly chords tones from the major chords and the altered V7 chords leading to them.

  • Kenny ripped this tune to shreds! lol He's has to be one of the most swinging pianist ever! WOW!!

  • Amazing! All the flaps, which he press , don´t keep up with the back than he press the flap again!

  • WOW

  • It's very hard to transcend the inherent difficulty of blowing over a complex tune like Giant Steps and really play from the heart but Kenny always does--what a great solo! He also plays a great Giant Steps solo on the Branford Marsalis video "Steep."

  • fantastic. thank you.

  • finally online!!!! thanks so much for posting....what a great solo!!!
