I am torn on the subject. But I am not from Utah. I see both sides.

I think the only thing worse than the polygamist compounds is FOSTER CARE.

I think the men need to be charged with CRIMES and put in jail. That should be the first thing done. The children need to be returned to their mothers. The mothers need to be given semipermanent birth control. The women need to get an education and when they complete a bachelors and masters degree they can be taken off of b. control.

I was a Child Abuse advocate and because of parental reunification, abuse is almost 5 times higher when a child is returned. Foster care abuse is not small, but statistically abuse repeats itself when returned to the source.

Sentencing I believe is November 20th. There is some conflict with the judge Mr. Shumate. At the trial the judge compared polygamy and child brides to that of civil disobedience, stating as well that it compared to blacks riding on the rear seats of busses or having to drink from seperate drinking fountains. To activist and victims, this was not a comparable civil rights issue.

Then on 9-14-07 Flora Jessop a former child bride, went on FOX News the Bill O'Reilly show to challenge this judges record, for giving suspended sentences to several prior sex offenders.

If you listen closely, Warren Jeffs is quoting older latter-day prophets on the issues of polygamy and blacks such as John Taylor and Brigham Young to name a few.

Yep thats what gets modern day Latter Day Saints or mainstream Mormons so upset! Polygamy, the Cain doctrine on Negro's and all the rest share the same origin. Mormons argue the two groups are not the same, but that only holds water if you have never heard the fundamentalist version.
