  • that's nothing, the mythbusters did that with animal shit. XD

  • that tank at 3:10.. THAT'S WHERE FLUBBER CAME FROM!

  • yeah i go to work and just make a ball all day.

  • Not in the video, so here's some info from the linked article that might make the accuracy of the project more apparent;

The roughness of the sphere is limited to 0.3nm in variation; a human hair is approx. 333,000 times as wide.

The curve of the surface compared to a sphere is accurate 60 to 70 nm, about 1/1500 the width of a human hair.

If it were as big as Earth, the biggest local error would be ~half an inch high, and the total sphere would be less than 17 feet from perfectly round.

  • minecraft

  • I can make a rounder object in paint.

  • well you've seen it here. the most expensive ball on the planet and it probably doesn't even bounce.

  • and the point is.....

  • None of these will beat Karl Pilkington's fucking head !

  • There is nothing best than a nice round girls but O>O

  • thats an interesting bit of info

  • But will it blend?

  • @Nulono haha lol good 1

  • I have a basketball that would blow their minds.

    Its round too.

  • That's nothing, try making a circle in Minecraft.

  • @GaxAngel You are an idiot, and so is anyone who agrees, and the reason what's wrong with the world.

  • @Kanakotka You managed to come to that conclusion from a little Minecraft joke? And no, I'm pretty sure there are far worse things in the world. In fact, my support for an indie developer infers the opposite.

  • @GaxAngel Your grievous disregard for things that actually matter infers the exact opposite.

  • @Kanakotka You are really making something out of nothing here. I've made a physics joke before, does that mean I hate all sciences? No, in fact quite the opposite. My joke has nothing to do with my opinion on the accomplishment.

  • I always thought that if you were to look at something absolutely perfectly round, it would do funny things to your eyes and brain, never seeing something that round before, without flaws. I think it does, but it probably would work better in person.

  • I wish Mast Optician, Mr Achim Leistner, would polish my spheres.

  • MY B-B-B-BALLS IS ROUNDESTER!!!!

  • Roundest my balls

  • now shoot it out of a cannon :D

  • Сферический килограмм в вакууме?

  • Roundest Thing Is A Circle

  • Or A Ball

  • that thing is so round that you dont even know how round it is

  • this object is round to a degree that if it was scaled to earths size, there would only be a slight slope increase leading to a total height of +- 3 meters.

This sounds like a lot until you realize the earth is 12,756.32 kilometers (12.75 million meters) across, and the current bulge on the equator is 41,000 meters.

    This bitch is ROUND

  • @massacreman3000 get your facts straight - the earth is egg-shaped. The difference would be quite a lot more then 3 meters. Check wikipedia

  • @ziaolol You need to learn RIT (Read It Twice)

I'm saying if you scale it up to the size of earth, the ridges would only be +-3 meters on the ORB, not the earth. And no, you need to get your facts straight, the earth is ovular, not egg shaped. It bulges at the equator due to massive pressures from the spin. Its more of a squished orb, rather than an egg.

    So please,

    1. learn RIT to help you in life

    2. Get YOUR facts straight

    3. Never quote wikipedia, it makes you look stupid.

  • The Making of, MAH BALLS

  • I find this hard to matrubate to....

  • i don't get it. It didn't define "roundness" or give any criteria for measuring it or tell why having a round object is important. All it did was show how they made. Please someone explain.

  • you see how it take to make it precise? I remind you that a previous civilization made them much bigger.

  • How much did this ball cost ?

  • @VioletMauve Why? Want one?

  • Most of the people watching don't get it. This is as close to an artificial physical manifestation of pi as we have come. Remember pi? It goes 3.14.....

  • Eh, I seen rounder.

  • I will win all of the marble games with this. ALL OF THEM

  • the point, it eludes me...

  • @iliteritmonkey these round spheres where used to test if gravity warps space. by spinning them perfectly at orbit they can monitor changes in the rotation. those changes show that space, indeed, is warped by earths gravity

  • @iliteritmonkey they point is lolz, anyone ever did anythingis lolz.

  • @iliteritmonkey It eludes me how a person could be confused by the point of something inherently fascinating and important.

  • @iliteritmonkey Ha. I see what you did there.

  • Can anyone think of one reason why there is ANY point to making the most spherical object :S

  • Seems pretty L7 to me.

  • What the fuck... Why do people get paid for this?

And where is my money? I can make stuff too..

  • wasting valuable money on making spheres -__-

  • Looks like one of those killer orbs from Phantasm!

  • @k3ntris Boyyyyyy!!

  • I went from dbz to deformities to circular perfection in 3 hours (O_0)

  • I wish I could spend millions of dollars creating a superiorly shaped metal ball.

  • A silent video all the way through?... right until the end credits!!! Scared me to death!!!

  • so the roundest things on earth are dildos?

  • PUTA QUE PARIU ESSA MERDA.........

    .

façam agora a merda mais esmerdada e coloquem na porra do MUSEU CARALHO!

  • FINE JOB LADIES AND GENTLEMEN , VERY INTERESTING , SHOWING EACH STEP . THANK YOU.

    GIANFRANCO FRONZI . AUGUST / 26/2011

  • Most boring video in the world created

  • @domrox58

..and I flagged your fucking bullshit comment.

  • that's one big ass dildo you got there 0:31

  • ....Why?

  • @Deadmilkmen1

    Why not?

  • And for the next project... Fuckedupagon!

  • sooo am i able to buy one of these things

  • I would steal it so that I could hold its shiny roundedness in my hands

  • They weren't supposed to give it balls, they were supposed to make a place for the batteries!

  • my left ball is the hairiest round objects in the world.

  • @hangsambo12 You got 2 left balls? Not cool bro, not cool.

  • dildo?

  • how about making hottest girl in the world ?

  • silicone always helps make round things.

  • 0:33, dildos????!!

  • They use this in spaceship and all UFOs have to have some of these

  • omg, Im extremelly nerd and even so this is so stupid.

I sleep every night (literally) watching how its made on my comp and even then...

...I know, it's for the weights and measures department or whatever, but, fuck, no, I'm sorry, actually buidling such alleged thing is just plain stupid.

(the sphere, not the guy who posted it)

  • Yes... Because making the roundest ball is more important than trying to find a cure for cancer...

  • @damothedemon so instead of polishing a ball he should have been polishing... wait how was he suposed to use his skills to cure cancer exactly?

  • @damothedemon Hey friend. They have found a cure for cancer. Watch this film and you will understand everything, it's right here on youtube.: Burzynski The Movie - Cancer Is Serious Business. Have a great life you wonderfull stranger. Peace

  • why?

  • we created the roundest objects in the world!!!!!!!!! MUHAHAHAHAHAHA

    now lets find life....

  • AND THAT GOOD FOR???

  • 58 people don't like balls.

  • Comment removed

  • Gah. Almost had a heart attack when the new scientist music played at the end! :P

  • "polish polish polish"

    DROP

    D':

  • I want one :(

  • Imagine if Hitler had managed to produce one in 1944.

  • erecting dildo, hmm amazing

  • Wow, does anyone actually care? What did they really accomplish here exactly?

  • We must make sure the jedi do not find out about these Blue Prints For The Death star

  • They reckon Leonardo da Vinci could draw a perfect circle.

  • ...So they made a giant ball bearing....Wooo..?

  • This is NOT the most rounded thing in the world!!!

  • national measurement institute?????? the fuck?

  • So THAT'S where all the taxes for scientific funding goes. :V

  • @LilyKitsune I was just going to same something along those lines as well x3 But alas, now I'd be un-original.

  • @TenkogaOkami Haha, well great minds think alike, love. xD

  • 0:33 they all look like dicks

  • ok they have to use computers and CNC machines for these tiny balls, yet in South America they have found huge stone that were ground into balls that are PERFECT and they want us to believe they did it with a stone chisel and hammer!?!?!

  • @tonymengela

    proven to be faked.

  • @Tyler47167yo Faked?!?! how exactly can these artifacts that are all over South America in museums be faked? They Have found these perfectly round stone balls everywhere and they are faked? Some even being 12' across and they are faked? You are a moron for even making that comment. Who exactly proved these to be fake? How is it that a fake artist can do this perfectly in stone when they can just do this now with metal and CNC machines today? Honestly do people even think when they troll MORON

  • @tonymengela

lol ok guy, what are you implying? Aliens did it? lol

  • @Tyler47167yo Aliens? I ant really say about that but there is Lots of evidence that really points to Man being very much more technically advanced than we are today, and a world wide cataclysm struck that push man back. As far as Aliens, who knows, but to think we are the only ones in an ancient Universe that is the farthest ahead in technology and thinking would be the most retarded thing. The next ten years I think will answer many questions, everything moves in cycles and this one is over.

  • What was the make/model of the machine used to do the initial grinding?

  • i wish my gf paid that much attention when polishing me

  • FINALLY! It was about fucking time.

  • #t=1m45s

  • i have a fushigi that looks just like it and, is round enough for me at least.

  • Is there even a point to this project?

  • @iNankurunaisa there are lots of uses for perfect spheres

  • have they measured everything else to compare roundness?

  • 55 people have no round balls .

  • Wonder how many starving people that little project could have fed...

  • @Zoomsterful Who cares.

  • @Starioshka About the roundest ball in the world, youre right, no one...

  • @Zoomsterful Roundest ball ever is epic, niggers don't matter.

  • I would find it hard to feel enthusiastic about a project like that I think.

  • A Buddhist would say this ball is trying to be god.

  • A marble is round enough for me......

  • really? a bubble... a fucking bubble...

  • But will it blend?

  • I could make that with an hacksaw and angelgrinder.

  • I can render a rounder sphere..

  • Bull crap Pamela anderson's boobs are rounder than that

  • It's a FUSHIGI!!!

  • I will never support cience again...

  • I thought this was going to be a video of Karl Pilkington's head.

  • When I die I'll come back to claim my 3:26 from you...boring as hell!!

  • *whew*...well I for one am certainly glad and breathing a sigh of relief that we've dodged the bullet of the world's spherical shortage!!! Thank you Germany!!

Wait...are they saying that every other sphere created (ball bearings, etc) are all NOT perfectly spherical???

Germany --- once almost took over Europe in an attempt to promote the "master race". Now...left drinking beer and making perfect balls.

    Wow.

  • they should try making the most triangulest triangle in the world next

  • Comment removed

  • @MrTroll652 - You mean the world's most regular tetrahedron, don't you?

  • So what are the roundest balls being used for?

  • @pottermonster They needed some excuse to spend our tax dollars in order to get the same amount next year. So they blew it on round balls. Next year, they'll be making the cubiest cubes in the world.

  • aah,

    but will it blend

  • So what was the practical reason of this endeavor?

  • @chanchan84 Its the institute for weights and measurements. They get off on precision.

  • @chanchan84 precision tools and calibration

  • OMG!! I JUST WENT BLIND DUE TO ITS ROUNDNESS!! DID U SEE HOW ROUND IT WAS?!?!? awsome!!

  • That's a wide variety of woman's toys 0:32

  • @ripnboard Make another one and you have a set of amazonian Ben Wa balls.

  • Looked more like a Triangle to me.

  • How did I get from Keyboard Cat to this?

  • @iClassiqaL same here, I was watching the Lazy Town / Lil John remix a few minutes ago

  • @iClassiqaL How did i get from sperm under a blacklight to this.

  • Actually, I think they're mine...

  • Totally a secret method of dildo production?

  • This is not true. The roundest objects found in the world are Kim Kardashians buttocks.

  • those long thing dont look very round 2 me

  • People are totally crazy - they spent so much money, time and energy and what is the result? The roundest ball. What a great work for the benefit of all mankind.

  • @paramak look at the link to the article provided; they're trying to find a replacement for the current way of deciding how much a kilogram is because the various international weights they currently use are deviating from eachother. Try making an accurate concentration of a chemical for a medicine which needs milligram precision to get the difference right between killing or curing the patient when the instructions are from a country using a different measure for what a kilogram is to yours!!!

  • @Originalcremela I've also heard about them being used in the gravity probe.

  • psh...i've seen rounder

  • glad we got that out of the way....now on to the straightest object in the world...and then the squiggliest....

  • Wouldn't it been easier to start off with a molded steal bearing ,, and the do the polishing stif????

  • ....why?

  • Roundest objects in the world created by the squarest people in the world. Another problem solved before we even knew we had it.

  • LETS SEE WHAT THEY CAN DO TO MY NOB...

YEAH POLISH THAT BITCH... DONT FORGET MY BALLS

  • The reason they are attempting to make a very close to perfect sphere is so that it can be used as a physical standard for the kilogram. That way they can say that a kilogram is defined as the mass of a perfect sphere of x radius composed of y isotope of silicon. This definition would be much more precise than the current one. Of course there are some other scientists who have proposed standards based on, for example, electric forces. However, no new standard has been officially adopted yet.

  • @Hypophora - Shut up, nerd!

  • @bigexodus Hmm, maybe I should go over what the current kilogram prototype is. It's a cylinder of platinum-iridium alloy currently stored in Paris. The alloy is quite durable, but comparisons to some of it's "sister" copies in other countries indicates that minuscule fluctuations in mass do occur over time. This issue has lead to the search for alternate kilogram prototypes, e.g. the silicon spheres in the video. Well that's enough of that. My, my, I do digress sometimes, don't I? Silly me.

  • @Hypophora Very well put.

  • @bigexodus You shut up, Prick.

  • now lets use that ball that took (say...)a few months to make as ammunition for a cannonball and waste it in 1 sec!

  • Yep that ball is pretty round.

  • I swear to god if I see one more "my balls are more round/shiny than that" comment I'm gonna hang myself....

  • HOLY SHIT! ROUND BALLS! FIRST THE NUKE AND NOW THIS!

WE ARE SO SCREWED NAO! :O

  • Them rusians are makin more weapons.... DICK AND BALL WEAPONS

  • Fuck Yeah the bowling ball is done.

  • no wonder we haven't found any extraterrestrials or the meaning of life yet.....were too busy trying to make our balls rounder.

  • Can't you get that thing any rounder? My balls are twice as round as that.

  • my balls are rounder than that my mrs has massaged them into perfect spheres over many years

  • i am soooo glad people are wasting time and money on this and not to find a cure for something, or just anything useful at all. ass holes

  • @yoitsme717 People can spend money on whatever they want. I'd buy an ice cream you might buy a doughnut - choice is free. As for useless, this sort of experiment gives information about the world we live in and may lead to any kind of discovery! - Blue skies research ftw ^_^

  • @BChristie88SV yeah i understand people can spend their money on what ever but that doesnt mean it is right to do so. i could go buy some crack with my money but i think that there are many better ways to spend it. im really not trying to be rude but how does making something round help you discover anything?

  • @yoitsme717 its not useless, if ball bearings were rounder they would last much much longer and work much more smoothly. and the first men couldnt of discovered fire without first discovering sparks, rocks, etc.
