To be fair, Jay himself failed some of the questions. For example, we didn't get/gain our independence on July 4, 1776, we merely declared it. It took quite some time to actually gain it. And Betsy Ross did not actually sew the first American flag--it's one of those American urban myths.
Gotta love Grandpa, though. Didn't miss a beat. Seems we've more than doubled the per student spending in the public school system over the past few decades and are getting half the results.

The sad part is that these people (except Grandpa) can't tell you anything about U.S. History - but they could tell you every detail about American Idol, Lost, or what's happening with the Kardashians. Also shows you how the school systems are failing in a big way.
It's scary that people like this are out there voting in elections when they know nothing about our country - there should be some sort of citizenship or history exam that people have to pass before they can vote.

@spaceass7880 - every President since Lyndon Johnson has used a teleprompter when giving speeches. You try giving a 40-minute speech off the top of your head and see where it leads. W drove his staff crazy whenever he strayed from the teleprompter and it was quite obvious whenever he did. That's why it's there and not written on note cards. It's obvious you've never done any form of public speaking before. Do us a favor, move out of your parents garage and go back to school and learn something.

All this is telling me is that once again knowledge of history has no impact on your ability to succeed and contribute as a member of society and is therefor the specifics of such are irrelevant. So long as someone knows how a people came to where they are today, the adversities they faced, how they overcame it and the mistakes that were made, knowing who, what and where isn't important. Who really cares what a minute man is, or who sewed the American flag?
