  • for Patrice Evra

  • This is an amazing song, back when people who made music had talent.

  • Sing out, folks, let me hear you...

  • the great joan baez.AWESOME.

  • Deep in my heart I do believe...

  • Those are not the lyrics

  • To all those civilians of Derry who stood for there rights...

  • Nagy senki lett Joan Baez, sajnálom! Egy nagy senki, és az is volt mindig is.

  • I do believe.

  • HEY!!! THIS SONG HAS THE SAME RHYTHEM of that of "Hum honge kaamyaab" as we indians used to sing right from our childhood days.Very good song :)

  • @sourabhsh111 Its because the Hindi version is a translation of this song.

  • @sourabhsh111 Hahaha, I noticed this too. I thought there had to be some connection. Do both songs mean the same lyrics?

  • Very Nice..

  • We SHALL overcome. And live in peace.......some day.

  • @Dlanorepmart I agree with you 100% PEACE

  • This is an amazing song and its performed by an amazing singerr !!

  • We are overcoming.

  • peaceful civil disobedience is the answer!

  • Deep in my heart, I do believe that we shall overcome, someday.

I couldn't think of any other way to put what I was feeling.

  • We will be alright we shall overcome

  • when was this amazing song recorded?

  • please can you tell me when it was recordet? thank you! :)

  • We shall overcome.

  • This song is for all the hardships that we face in this world. Sung by an absolute angel.

  • They need to sing this song at Tea Party meetings.

  • @santran It would be great! Doctor King was a proud republican who never accepted to be a house slave to the plantation party, the K.K.K. party, the Jim Crow Party, the "Democratic" Party.

  • A good one for Occupy Wallstreet!

  • Bob Dylan and Joan Baez were so amazing. They both really shared some words.

  • To the heterosexuals reading this, remember that you also may belong to a group that was once oppressed and others that were unlike you fought for your human rights and dignity. Please return the favor. We all share this one Earth and no one is going anywhere. So let's all just get along and enjoy the ride together.

  • To all the homosexuals all over the world who are shunned, harassed, persecuted, ridiculed, bullied, oppressed, jailed, tortured, and/or murdered for being born who you are: Keep fighting for your human rights and dignity. You are fighting the good fight. One day bigotry and hate will fade into the shadows and the world will be much brighter.

  • @greatestone00 They can hardly continue to fight for their rights if they're dead.

  • The anthem for the 99% NOW protesting?

  • @Setarcosism BTW I am gerryhiles, but, for some reason YouTube required re-registration.

Whatever I am still the same same person "A kid protesting in Wisconsin right now" kindly said my generation was not wasted.

I am nothing compared with Joan Baez. I stand in her shadow; also the Byrds, Barry McGuire, Dylan, Hendrix, the Stones and so many others.

No one, that I know of, is writing potent protest songs today: so re-open a wealth of songs that remain relevant. More than ever?

  • @Setarcosism Absolutely! I just thought exactly the same thing! I'm kind of surprised it hasn't already happened... pass it on and this will give so much more power to the movement

I have just been learning it to play on guitar

    C F C

    C F C

    C F G Am D G

    F C F C G Am

    C F C G C

  • @Setarcosism And also for the people fighting to stop the Keystone XL pipeline

  • America today is time to overcome ! remind the world the essence of democracy:

the power is of the people ! Each individual count !

  • Mitica Joan...!!! Come potrei mai dimenticarti...?

  • pls rate my protestsong anno 2011?

  • Comment removed

  • Immer noch aktuell...... I like it!

  • Thank you. I remember singing this song as I marched past the tanks the soldiers the angry crowds the men in the white sheets at the front of the University contingent, arm and arm with our Black brothers and sisters, 5,000 of us of all political views races and social ranks, risking our safety if not our very lives for justice for every American.

  • @johnwerneken touching. I wish I, someday can sing this song loud with a world full of brothers and sisters and we shall sing for unity with our heads up high, and we shall live in peace, and we shall overcome.

  • Thank you. I remember singing this song as I marched past the tanks the soldiers the angry crowds the men in the white sheets at the front of the UNiversity contingent, arm and arm with out Black brothers and sisters, 5,000 of us of all political views races and social ranks, risking our safety if not our very lives for justice for every American.

  • About as powerful as a woman and her guitar can get. Powerful.

  • keep these scripts and mrs murray

  • my reaction

  • Amazing

  • Welch ne Stimme!

  • JUST Perhaps the USA should withdraw their MILITARY Support of the UK... and allow Russia... to do what they Want...?

“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good people do nothing.” British Statesman, Edmund Burke.

  • Joan Baez, 28 years old in this video, playing at woodstock, just with her guitar and her voice, infront of 400.000 people and everyone is amazed!

  • Terrific!

  • MRS. MURRAY

To courageous Mrs. Murray, there was so much of you,

a heart as big as the ocean, and a body massive, too —

four-hundred pounds of sorrow from eating through your pain,

from when your beloved husband died and left you alone again.

The children’s songs you taught us all, lightened your heavy heart,

to the children’s chorus at my school where you shared your healing art.

    You taught us,

We will live in peace, we’ll walk hand in hand,

    we shall overcome some day.

  • @eastariel How beautiful a tribute you wrote.

  • Some of the moms ridiculed you and your sweating, labored walk.

Behind your back, they puffed their cheeks and never stopped to talk.

“Oh not again,” they sometimes said, when your Spring Sing day came round.

You always held this concert day as sacred in our town.

Children from three separate schools practiced all as one,

raising their voices in separate parts til harmony was won.

    You taught us,

We will live in peace, we’ll walk hand in hand,

    we shall overcome some day.

  • This year was no different, for your songs of choice were sung,

calling for a world of peace where inclusion has begun.

As children’s voices sang out to a world gone cold and gray,

the tears ran down your cheeks as we sang, “We shall overcome some day.”

I loved you, Mrs. Murray, you saw the best in me.

You gave this silent child a part to help me sing for my liberty.

    You taught us,

We will live in peace, we’ll walk hand in hand,

    we shall overcome some day.

  • Amazing....

  • やっぱりきれいな声してるなー

    ボブもこの声に惹かれたな

  • A great activist who spoke through her music, She is one of a kind.

  • Protest songs are still alive and well today. Eric Cantor has a new one directly squarely at him, check out Stuff a Sock In It

  • beautiful voice

  • I wish she was my mother

  • (Y)

  • gaza will be free and coward greece and turkey will be recalled with their betrayal. shame on u erdogan shame on u papandreu

  • too much hate in you, my friend! Hate can't build a free Palestine. First of all Hamas and Fatah must join hands. I have symapthy for those in need, but it seems that you from Gaza do not know to build in peace...

  • @horea67 Please read about Mustafa Kemal ATATURK.

  • I like history, ATATURK was a great man. Although I am Christian, I do not consider myself against Islam, I've read partly Al-Qur'an, there are a lot of common ideas. We can built together on a peaceful foundation, respecting our different beliefs. Only extremism is disastrous`

  • @horea67 shut up you ignorant fool - the quran is a horseshit of a book that preaches overcoming non beleivers by force if necessary, polygamy for men, justifying violence if needed in the cause of allah.clearly u r a cafeteria religious moron who beleives everyhing their 5th column - western muslims - blabber baout islam bein a "religion of peace".look at history - islam was spread around hte world by FORCE and conquest.

    wake up fucking idiot

  • First of all you are too nervous. second I said Ataturk was a great man, he separated the Islam religion from the Turkish state institutions, but I presume you have no idea who he was, so I forgive you. I have answered to a polite request from zbg1001, but, as we say in Cluj, Transilvania (my town), you have introduced yourself like a fly in a horeseshit (to quote from you). No hard feelings....

  • @asku23 Even though I agree with you that quran is a bad book ,as in my opinion all religion is detrimental to human understanding. I must agree with horea67 in the mater of Atatürk. He did influenced the whole Turkey by introducing western culture to the country. A little insight to what kind of man he was is perhaps in the words inscribed on the Gallipoli memorial. I urge you to look it up.

  • @asku23 Christianity did a lot of spreading that way too. Just a fact.

  • @horea67 glad to find such an insightful person ! God bless you !

  • what a voice!

  • Civil Rights movement

it wasnt a good generation and the discrimination was

very hard .. i"ve learned it in the scool ;)

    Heel good .. ooohhhhh

  • civil right movement

  • Against imperialism

  • used to sing this song when i was putting my niece down for her nap. i think that my=ay be why she has a concience now.

  • @TheSandsie13 That's beautiful

  • We shall overcome, Sweden :3

  • And 50 years later we're still trying to overcome. The fight goes on until the war is won. RIP, MLK

  • We shall overcome some day. Hope so , but I fear we will never.

Promises and big words of freedom, justice, liberty and peace. And streams of blood.

  • What a touching song. It's so necessary these days when we still see terrible wars, death and destruction in the name of god money and power.

  • DEDICATED TO PAKISTAN

    FUK TERRORISM.

  • @flozzilei

  • Martin Luther King Jr and his followers sang this song on Non-Violent Protests he even sang this on the March To Washington where he gave his most famous speech 'I Have a Dream"

  • WE SHALL OVERCOME.. HATE, INJUSTICE, APATHY when.. we.. REMEMBER and KEEP HOPE ALIVE and KEEP ON WALKING and FOLLOWING THE DRUM BEAT OF JUSTICE and RIGHT!

  • una bellisima gitana!

  • I have this on an old LP. I lived through the Vietnam Era and watched my friends die. My father, a career Army man, had to deliver the news to so many people. When he had to tell one of my girlfriends that her husband had been killed, he knew it was time to retire. However, all of us are proud of what the armed services have done, and we support them thoroughly. One of my son-in-laws was in the Navy, one in the marines, and my daughter was in the Army. I am one proud women.

  • 津波、原発の事故に遇われた方々にメッセージを送りたい ’WE SHALL OVERCOME SOMEDAY' !!!

  • (Posted by Youtube Stream for iPhone (yst.me) on behalf of pastor_stephan at twitter)

  • nu tycker jag att vi gemensamt i denna sal sjunger "we shall overcome"

  • Joan is belting out that we are not afraid. I fear we have become so afraid we have lost sight of what Peace really brings humanity.

  • is there a version of this song by any singer/band that doesn't have any parts spoken?

  • a mighty wind!!

  • Joan Baez, changed the lyrics and it doesn't sound right.

  • I wish everybody had the same drive behind them today that we had in the 60's...things might be different now!!

  • @clarinetplayer56

You bet. There is no more USSR nowadays, capitalism all over the evershrinking "global village". I wish a lot of things too:

    youтube.com/watch?v=7wjJbWuor_Y

  • 33 PEOPLE DOESN'T HAVE EARS XD

  • @woodstockstillalive it's called "don't"

  • I have not given up the passion since the 60s, but I can no longer march in protest ... I can only hope to inspire others with seminal messages from the the days when such as Joan Baez, Bob Dylan and many others put out messages which are maybe even more apt today ... well consider Barry McGuire and "Eve of Destruction".

  • This is the most encouraging song for us, Japanese now. I want to keep singing the song. and you

  • JOAN BAEZ GREATEST SONG!thank you JOAN for all /also for concert in Lublin!

  • Solidarity.

  • She sung this SO many times.

  • they're singin this in madison wi right now. beautiful

  • Qué tremenda voz.. me encanta.

  • we shall overcome-amazing song that still counts for today

  • @gerryhiles just not owning anything is not an achievement! If you people beleived half the stuff your songs were about, you would keep organizing, protesting fighting the system instead of just giving up when the viet war was over. It's obvious that you didn't care about social justice and all that stuff, you were just scared of having to go to a place where you might get shot. What would you expect from a bunch of spoiled cowards who only care about themselves.

  • @asnazarov You are a fuck wit asshole. I have never given up.

I am part of Wikileaks and FAR more than you could ever dream of arseneroff. and how old are you puppy?

I am 67 and still going.

  • @gerryhiles

Are you the coolest grandparent in the world? By that I mean, are you a parent/grandparent?

  • Long live the people of Tunisia, Egypt and all othe countries who are trying to "Overcome".

  • I also heard it because I said that singer (Mari Amach) in Japan would be loved. It was terribly impressed. It becomes nostalgic feelings.

    From Japan

  • Shoulda listened, Hosni. You got overcome.

  • We made a heckuva difference! I look back at the past 58 years with great pride; we did so much.

  • WHAT THE FUCK I'VE FOUNDED A NEW FAN! I'M TOO OLD FOR THIS

  • @gerryhiles

Yeah, you tried until you gave up, got fat, shat all over the environment, took out a bunch of debt, expanded an opressive capitalist system to every corner of the world and now your kids have to clean it all up. thanks

  • @asnazarov Not me, or anyone I work with. What do you do to change things? I've been working since those days FOR change. Who do you think is in charge, anyway? The same power structure that always was, that profits off war and slavery. That buys up natural food companies and then lobbies and buys out Congress to decrease laws regulating "organic." It's not a generation you blame. "Generation Gap" sold magazines. Question Authority. Do what you can. Don't let FOX distract you with a side show.

  • @asnazarov As far as I can tell, the "kids" ain't doing any better, so get off your self-righteous high horse, bub. If you got a birth certificate, you're guilty.

  • @asnazarov You are a piece of shit. I do not own anything. I am not fat. I have no debt. I have never supported 'capitalism" and I have never 'given up'.

How old are you? Probablly in your teens, but in any case the most ignorant piece of shit I have ever come across.

  • Thanks Joan for your diligence.

  • we shall overcome our KFC fear

  • Thank you Joan for being a part of righteous American history..

  • @UltraLiteSpeed a part of righteous world history :)

  • WE SHALLL OVER COMEE

  • In the words of CCR "someday never comes"

  • Mitica......

  • i realy love her voice! high piches r perfect! her b day yaesterday. yas, she is still alive!

  • @thesidewindersleeps You certainly won’t fight injustice or try to make a difference. According to you "it is too well established….to make any difference". Obviously, you ARE the ostrich-like one. Bury your head in the sand & wait for others to do it. Some of us will always be take up the slack that your type leaves hanging. I am proud to be one of many still fighting. Insult me all you want, dear, I have been taking insults from your type for almost 5 decades & it hasn't stopped me yet.

  • Seems we've come a long way from bistros babe...

  • Ps Joan sings a great version so this is in no way about her talent which is unquestioned. That's just for the dumb asses.

  • Please nothing. Even before Motown blacks changed the way people cook, sing, dress, dance and must I go on. A true artist takes from all that is good. Yeah my people from Africa, this land we love from the native Americans, must I go on again sir. The truth is homage and theft are two different things. Elvis did what. Not once was the black man who wrote his songs ever mentioned or his in a show with him. I'm sure he was paid a few dollars and made to sign his soul I meant his song away.

  • @tmakaveli81

OH, GOODNESS! I never knew Carl Perkins was black!!!!!!!!!!

"Hound Dog", although recorded by Big Mama Thornton, was writen by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller

etc --- Later, the Beatles and Rolling Stones recorded a lot of Chuck Berry, with credit, and sometimes brought him on tour

But the STYLE was adapted from Black musicians, and Sam Phillips was looking for a White singer who could sing like a Black man.

PLENTY OF BAD STUFF TOOK PLACE -- but a victimhood complex wont help

  • @tmakaveli81 The fact is that it never was about race but about wealth and still is..so get off your feel sorry for yourself ass and stop acting like all people who are not black are evil..black men with wealth treat poor men like shit to, no matter the color. White men treat poor white men like shit to..is about wealth and not color .

  • @George6360

    You have problems

  • @Wraith23 Thank you so much. I knew you cared ..Big kiss!

  • She has an angel's face and voice.

  • Seriously can black people have anything. No offenses to the other races that don't judge people by the color of their skin but by actions. Now to the rest of the bigots out there are you mad and the flavor and depth of soul of people of color. When you hold your fancy balls with the boring waltz and whatever else we are not mad, that's your thing soul is ours. Elvis is not the king of rock and roll or anything. The black man that wrote his songs and choreographed his dance moves is. Live and l

  • @tmakaveli81 Please, save that can black people have anything shit. Motown changed the way people sing, dance , and write songs forever and was all African Americans. The thing is a true artist takes from all that is good, Elvis did this and with his great voice made him a legend.

  • @George6360

PS -- if you know ANYTHING, you know that Motown's purpose was to make Black artists MORE WHITE, so they would see to White audiences.

If you want a laugh, see the non-Motown Ike and Tina on old tapes of teen dance shows, with the Iketttes in turtle necks, unlike the racy costumes they wore for Black audiences (I was there)

HOWEVER, YES, BLACKS SET THE TRENDS IN MUSIC, AND SO FORTH

  • @BOBLA90069 well I was talking about the songs and dance but I get your point.

  • @tmakaveli81 Well said, I totally agree with you?

  • this is so:

    WONDERFULL!!!!!!!!!

you don't need to say anything more, JUST:

    WONDERFULL!!!!!!!!!

  • 27 people can go die in the pit of ignorance.

  • Well I am going to try to make it happen again, or die in the attempt.

I can't write the music or lyrics, but I can revive and I can do my own particular kind of thing, even though my body ain't what it was. My mind is still fairly intact..

  • YES, WE SHALL OVERCOME!!!

    JOAN BAEZ FOREVER!!!

  • hey this is ellen degeneres!!! :D

  • A beautiful singer with a very Beautiful voice

For those of us that lived through that special time were so lucky.

    it will never happen again

  • 私たち世代の青春ソングです。反戦・平和、ベトナム戦争、若者に力漲っていた、あの頃の日本。

  • What killed the counter culture? Was it the drugs or being without a leader or an organization was it always doomed?

  • io sono del 67 ma debbo dire che erano queste generazioni che avevano e soprattutto credevano in delle ideologie, giuste o sbagliate che siano ma credevano....oggi invece si crede al grande fratello......che brutta fine

  • beautiful voice, beautiful song. May we never stop fighting for a better world for our children and grandchildren.

  • voll geil des lied mag ich

  • My PC is now linked with Wikileaks. I am not afraid.

  • Now it is Wikileaks.

  • why did she say "we are not afraid today ha ha" ????

  • @thecarrotdude because too many people ARE afraid - even paranoid - today.

People of my generation were never afraid to get on the streets and protest ha ha ..get it?
