  • Agin' brain.

  • 3 people misclicked.

  • lol... you might want to take down the subtitles for this video. they are hilariously inaccurate and will only serve to confuse any hearing-impaired buddhists that might be watching.

  • Im trying to scratch my bum :DD

  • I love Ajahm Brahm. I need to take this opportunity to speak on behalf of non-humans. All sentient beings deserve to not be exploited. Please consider going vegan. We kill 56 billion animals (not including fish) every year for no other reason than their bodies 'taste good'. Non-human animals value their life as much as you or I and fight to hold onto it, please don't needlessly take it from them.

  • @cricket279 Good point. I was raised on fast food and junk food and still eat that way. I generally don't even read these comments, so the fact that I read this at a time when my practice is going very well, that you posted it only yesterday, and that "Emma" is my favorite name I will take as signs to stop eating mindlessly and become a vegan. You've made me a better Buddhist and saved some cows and chickens all from one nicely-worded comment. Thanks.

  • @cricket279 I personally believe that compassion is the compass for reason - if this is the case veganism should be a path for all of us to follow so no sentient being has to suffer so I can eat, dress, exist...this is our choice. Mindfulness in our life one second at a time. :-)

  • @6Man666666 they do not have to suffer if they are raised n grazed properly and then killed humanely without pain....

  • @ssssaintmarcus Killed "humanely" and "without pain" I am sorry- do you actually think that we are killing animals to put them out of their misery by using anaesthetics? How about raised and grazed "properly" what is that? slavery to become produce is properly how exactly? These animals r not allowed 2 even keep their cubs. The vast majority r kept in confined small cages or spaces & they r killed with a mallet 2d head, a blade 2d throat hanging upside down, or wrung by d neck...know your meat

  • I think it's a balance. You can't goof off all the time, but it is nice to relax and try to meditate.

  • Did the buddhist invent meditation?or did the hindus?

  • @waxheadglossy hindis

  • @sysopkc hindis is the language of the hindus. some people like to get technical without looking up the "definition "of the word, look it up first then correct me.

  • @waxheadglossy No no, the guy was asking if buddists invented meditation or the hindis. I was just answering the question. Thats all... I wasnt correcting anyone. You were right, no reason. Just a misunderstanding in the post there.

  • @sysopkc sorry about that,I stand corrected

  • @waxheadglossy you guys are doing a good thing, this is a positive push for humanity. I just wish more people would really honestly look into this aspect of living and really think, and realize the positive benifits of these practices.

  • @waxheadglossy Meditation is part of hinduism and the hinduism is the oldest religion of the World. Buddism does not differ from hinduism, it actually only ignors the gods and points out the priciples and way of the living beings. Hinduism has everything buddism does have but buddism only ignors some things and concentrates on some other things.

  • @G6600 > hindus knew only the "Samatha" meditation which only concentrate about this life,. it's Load Buddha who invented the "Vidarshana" meditation which is the path to the eternal peace in mind ( nibbana ) .

  • The end comments about being a seasoned meditator hits the spot. When you know what to do a lot of pride creeps in...At least for me.

  • This goes well together with what D Goleman says about using meditation for children with ADHD

  • He looks like the singer from Judas Priest.

  • Who is this british monk ?

  • @Ganeschar *ahem* australian *ahem*

  • inspiring...love it !

  • Great talk. Thank you

  • this guy is awesome!

  • i don't know much about Buddhist but i love it :) this so make sense :)

  • Thanks so much. This is very helpful! Anumodhana

  • Samadhi states were already known before the Buddha's time. Ajahn Brahm actually denies that the part of the early suttas stating that the Buddha learned advanced samadhi states from teachers is accurate. These states will not destroy the fetters to enlightenment. These states only suppress negative qualities for a time. The Buddha invented/discovered Vipassana meditation, which uses the concentrated mind to destroy the fetters permanently, resulting in a freed mind, that is, an arahant.

  • i always read that the buddha learned the immaterial attainments from other teachers, but was dissatisfied with them and after engaging in the austerities he realized jhana and that was the specific path that lead him to insight. i'm unsure, but i thought jhana and vipassana together was led to his enlightenment. is this right?

  • To attain enlightenment, one needs practise samatha meditation to attain jhana state as then only the mind will be one-pointedness. At this state, the mind is very sharp and clear. It is as in the case of a knife, we can use the knife to cut only when it is sharp enough.

Once we reach this state, we practise vipassana meditation where we apply the dhamma ( wisdom) to solve all our problems. Eventually, enlighten.

  • Compassion and mindfulness got me through my panic attacks! :D

  • did Buddhism really invent meditation? maybe the buddhist style of meditation. I would like to ask Ajahn Brahm about this...

  • Meditation was there even Buddha was born. Buddha practise Vipassana meditation it is not quit the same as the kind of meditation most people do. It helps the Buddhists to see things as they really are. It can also keep our mind still and wisdom will arise. With the wisdom, we can solve the problem that we encounter

  • @impermanenttoo what about DMT and ayahuasca?

  • KidNotorious, you're right. Buddhism did NOT invent meditation. As Sakyamuni started out on his quest, he learned meditation from his first two teachers. But it is true that he gave it a completely different meaning.

  • thanks for subscribing this video!!! very helpfull!

  • Much love to you all through your journey

  • Sanity for humanity in a brown robe, a smile, a few jokes and wisdom inbetween.

If you watch each of his clips for an hour each day, your life will improve dramatically.

Thank you Buddhist Society of Western Australia for the videos...

  • This is a great video! I have done mindfulness a long time and I really feel a big change in my life!! Thanks Ajahn Brahm!

  • I got one question: How did I miss this?! Its soooooooo obvious and simple!! hahahha... Thanks Ajahn Brahm! :D

  • maybe its kamma in action. a negative comment produces a negative response.

  • Well said......:)

  • You haven't watched enough Ajahn Bram. If you had, you'd realize that Buddhists aren't pushover sort of people; like kind snakes we can hiss, but not bite.

  • Why is that?

  • I can vouch for the use of mindfulness as a treatment for depression, pharmaceutical drugs just mask the problem.

  • can anyone tell me how "Buddhist invented meditation" Siddhartha tried many meditation techniques handed down from Hinduism. Pranayama, i thought, was what ultimately worked for him. Sid was dif. w/anatman and emptiness (no inherent essences) but that's analytic.

  • Buddhism did NOT invent meditation. It's simply well known for it, if not the most well known. It is prevalent everywhere though and it has been around before the birth of Siddhartha Gautama.

  • I think wat Ajahn brahm meant was the particular Meditation which Siddhartha Praciced which is Vipassana.

And if u wanna know wat Buddhism realy has to offer u need to "empty your Cup" first.

  • this an talks are wonderful

  • Thanks for great video:)
